Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: Howl! Ethan is going to learn Avada Lightning Chain!

And so it went.

Professor Quirrell was surprised to see Ethan wearing an excited expression, even though he'd clearly failed to cast the spell.

Is he a masochist??

Professor Quirrell couldn't understand it.

Just as he was about to offer some guidance, he saw Ethan raise his wand again.

Over and over.

He wasn't discouraged in the slightest, even when nothing happened.

Calmly and determinedly, he waved his wand and chanted the incantation.

In the end, it even made Professor Quirrell feel a little afraid.

Ethan, please stop chanting, I'm scared.jpg

...Why bother with something so meaningless?

Even with repeated practice, without knowing the spell model, it's absolutely impossible to cast a spell successfully!

Is he just being stubborn?

Does he think he can definitely learn it and can't possibly fail?

Heh, not taking the shortcut, but stubbornly taking the long way to prove himself...

Such behavior can only be called "stupid"!

Thinking this, Professor Quirrell unconsciously bit his lower lip.

He watched Ethan wave his wand over and over again, as if simply learning magic itself was interesting enough, and an inexpressible feeling welled up in his heart.

The only thing Professor Quirrell knew for sure.

Was that he hated this child to death.

Once his master gave the word to eliminate Ethan, he would not hesitate to find an opportunity to act.

"Mr. Vin-Vincent," Professor Quirrell said with a fawning smile, "Don't do useless work anymore. You haven't learned the spell model yet, have you? Let me teach you..."

Useless work?

I don't think so.

Ethan thought to himself.

Even if he truly didn't know the spell model, through repeated practice, he could slowly grasp the changes in magic.

Just like learning the Levitation Charm in first year—they weren't immediately given a bunch of spell models.

Instead, they slowly practiced "Wingardium Leviosa" first.

—You've really changed, Professor Quirrell!

How could a Ravenclaw become like this!

Just then.

A faint blue light curtain appeared before Ethan's eyes.

[Little by little, you drink from the sweet spring of knowledge like a mayfly drawing water]

[Though scarce, accumulation makes much]

[You have gained new [Erudition]]

[The inspiration in your skull is full, a lamp lights up in your mind, and you feel yourself gradually grasping something]

[New skill is synthesizing...]

It's here!

Ethan's eyes lit up.

Just like a light bulb "snapping" on in the darkness.

The model, originally obscured by gloom, suddenly appeared complete and clear in his mind.

Every tiny turn, every subtle connection.

Nothing could hide.

It really just clicked!

"Mr. Vincent?"

Professor Quirrell saw Ethan staring blankly at a certain spot in the void and couldn't help but call out in confusion.

Ethan returned to his senses.

His cobalt-blue eyes glanced at Professor Quirrell, and he curled his lips, raised an index finger, and said:

"Shhh—"

"Next, it's time to witness a miracle."

?

Professor Quirrell frowned.

He then saw Ethan, just as he had done countless times before, wave his wand with standard movements, and chant a beautiful incantation.

"Mr. Vincent, this won't work, you must first learn the spell model—uh?!"

Professor Quirrell's words abruptly stopped.

What came into view.

Was the sight of a silkworm-fine white thread floating out of the toad's head.

Although small, it was indeed a thread of memory!

As Ethan moved, it gently wrapped around the tip of his wand.

Ethan raised his hand, carefully admiring this thread containing the creature's memories and emotions.

He felt a peaceful fullness within.

A moment later, Ethan lowered his wand and placed this precious thread back into the toad's brain.

"..."

The toad blinked its hazy eyes and regained consciousness.

It let out a "croak," its cheeks continued to puff in and out as it breathed, unmoving as a mountain.

"It worked."

Ethan turned his head, looked at the dumbfounded Professor Quirrell, and smiled:

"We can now learn more advanced spells... For example, extracting deeper soul fragments to give portraits real personalities."

"..."

Professor Quirrell's eyes widened, and his mouth opened and closed twice like a fish.

The next second.

He tumbled to the ground, his body completely limp.

—Having seen Merlin, why not prostrate yourself?

...

In the time that followed.

Ethan learned very well from Professor Quirrell—one-sidedly.

Every time class was over, Professor Quirrell looked utterly devastated.

His eyes were dazed, and his limbs were weak.

As if he were a rag doll run over by a large truck from all angles.

Once, during Defense Against the Dark Arts class, he even suddenly clutched his head with both hands, hoarsely growling, "What am I?!" and "I'm a good-for-nothing!!"

In contrast.

Ethan's complexion became even more rosy.

His mood visibly grew more joyful, and his entire being radiated the light of knowledge.

"Ethan scored 120 on his last Charms quiz," his roommate Anthony pushed up his glasses, "out of a possible 100."

"Ethan is no longer the same species as us."

Michael: "It's not that bad. Wasn't it just because Ethan went beyond the scope on the essay question that Professor Flitwick was happy and gave him an extra twenty points?"

Anthony walked past Michael without looking sideways.

He mumbled:

"What's that mumbling about, Flobberworm."

Michael: "..."

So, he, who scored seventy, isn't even human anymore?!

This damned pure-score lineage!

Another classmate chuckled and hooked an arm over Michael's shoulder: "Don't mind that guy. Let's go hang out with the girls~"

Michael coldly shook off his arm.

Without even looking at him, he said coolly:

"Don't talk to me, Bubotuber."

The classmate who scored sixty: "..."

Well, then.

Scoring sixty means he's not even an animal anymore, directly regressing to a plant, huh?!

Your dorm is really a bunch of hidden dragons and crouching phoenixes!

No wonder you can hang out with Ethan.

—However, everyone knew.

Ethan, who chose Professor Quirrell as his mentor, no longer had any chance of winning.

Relying solely on those paintings with no actual offensive power.

It would be lucky if he returned completely intact.

After all, it was rumored that the students of Durmstrang were all dabbling in the Dark Arts.

The real deal.

Not those intimidating things like paintings.

...

[New skill has been synthesized!]

[You have gained the skill: Initial Glimpse of Erudition Lv1]

[Knowledge is a city built brick by brick. But what awaits in the darkness outside the city walls? If there is no object of fear, why do we build high walls?]

[Or perhaps... you are outside the high walls]

[Effect: You have a photographic memory, you can understand more profound magic; you will be able to cast magic more rationally, unrestricted by emotions]

[You have learned new knowledge: Chain Spell]

[Your spell can hit up to three targets at once, but you need to control the direction of the spell]

New skill acquired!

Ethan's excitement and joy were inexpressible.

From these plain words alone, Ethan could feel the power of this skill.

Casting magic more rationally, unrestricted by emotions.

This meant that as long as he learned it, he could fluently use all magic.

For example, the three Unforgivable Curses that require extreme emotions.

Regarding this, Ethan's attitude was:

You don't have to use it, but you can't not know it.

After all, mercy is Merlin's business; we just need to send our enemies to meet Merlin.

But this was only a secondary effect.

The most important thing was "casting three spells at once"!

Avada Lightning Chain, illuminate your heart!!

Indeed.

Like flocks of birds, they can attack many targets at once.

However, these have no special effects.

Such as Stupefy, Petrificus Totalus, or Avada Kedavra.

Ethan couldn't recall any Auror who could use these types of spells to deal with a large number of targets at once.

In fact, an idea flashed in Ethan's mind—

To combine the Chain Spell with his broomstick rash.

And the paintings he drew could all have their effects enhanced.

Expansion and cursing, just thinking about it was exciting.

"Ancestor of Wizards, I have inherited your mantle."

Ethan clasped his hands together, praying like the most devout and pure believer:

"Rest assured, I will make good use of it, just like you."

There are no Dark Wizards yet.

But that's okay.

He can practice on magical creatures first.

For example...

A large dog with three heads.

Perfect, one spell per head, clearly arranged.

Professor Snape, who says one person can't deal with three heads at once?
