Chapter 31 - Entwined with Adversity: Confrontation with Troublesome (Part 5)

After that, I immediately got into the forest.

In the forest, I barely can see through because of the shady tree.

There is a glimpse of sunlight passing through.

Finally, I found a tree with fruit and collected some of it to carry in my bag. This will be a dessert for our dinner tonight.

I try to search for our main dish if there are any edible animals that I could cook. Fishing at the lake would be my last choice if there is nothing to eat. I'm sick of eating fish.

But I guess Elijah and I are already tired most with gilled fish.

Suddenly, I saw a couple of rabbits with long ears. I know that their meat is delicious but it's hard to capture.

"You sneaky rabbit. You should be glad to be a main dish for us!" I can't stop drooling thinking about rabbit's meat. It must taste delicious.

"Should I grill it on fire? I can't wait!" I hide in the bush and take time to kill it. I shoot it several times and keep missing and chase it into the woods.

Luckily, I have put a mark on my way here so I could get back to them. Suddenly, I ended up in an open space and saw a big bird was eating some fruit.

I completely forgot about the rabbit as it had already fled away. But this one is easier. I just have to fight it.

The bird decided to fight me one on one like a true man. Unlike the rabbit that runs away and hides in the ground.

"Now, you are a real man!" I provoke it. In my mind, "If you are herbivore, that means you are edible!"

The animal strikes me as it feels threatened. The bird cast out a strong electric to attack me.

"Electric type? That's new. Maybe I should try to absorb its attack" I thought in my head while reading the enemy.

I get near a tree and dodge the attack. The tree gets electrocuted, and I touch the tree.

I feel a sting on my palm and how the electric feels. I try to concentrate my magic buzzing like the electric and cast it out. The fast-lightning charge towards the birds and got absorbed.

"Yeah! I did again"

Now I am capable of any magic that I can think of in my mind. I just need time to do it.

As I expected, things with the same element attributes are not effective.

"Now, your magic is not useful anymore, big bird!" The bird looked afraid of me.

After that, I struggled to fight the bird and was careful to dodge its attack. But it still managed to hit me several times with its magic.

Fortunately, I am able to neutralize its attacks after learning it by absorbing the damage. I can't believe I can manage to do that when the magic just seems like it was sucked into my palm. To win that fight, I already learnt it from Master's vision about this world. From my imagination and experience living on Earth, I get to know so many things that I can do with magic.

There are 5 main elemental attributes that a human can do which are fire, water, earth, wind and electricity. Every element has its strength and weakness. The subsidiary magic can be produced from its main attribute either by master in its technique or combination.

That time, I fought the bird by using a wind magic because I don't know how to conjure magic. Even though it's ineffective, I still manage to turn around the table by turning it blind by hitting its eyes with tree branches that sped up with wind magic. Being handicapped, I was able to defeat it and found out the bird is a mother and there are several eggs in her nest.

I was lucky to hit the jackpot and planned to have fried meat with scrambled eggs.

...

As I headed back, I returned to them and threw a giant bird onto the ground. Elijah looked at me with wide eyes, disbelief written all over his face.

"So big! Did you kill it?" he asked, his voice filled with awe.

"Yeah, somehow," I replied, trying to sound nonchalant. "It's not a big deal."

"You are amazing, brother! I want to be strong like you too!" Elijah exclaimed, his admiration clear.

"Yes, you can," I assured him, ruffling his hair. "But first, let's enjoy this for our dinner."

Later, I skinned the bird and sliced it with my dismantling knife. I only had two knives, and I began to think about buying a sword. It would be convenient to use a weapon so I wouldn't have to waste my mana fighting.

The knife is already chipped but still usable because I use my mana to cut through any object. But it is not efficient and feels different when the knife is sharp.

"I wonder how I'm able to fight so well," I thought. "I guess all the knowledge from the Master also brought me the ability to learn quickly. That's why I can easily learn magic and swordsmanship techniques taught by Arnold."

As I cut the bird's limb, I noticed the blood flowing out and had an idea to control it using water magic. "If anything living has blood, I could easily kill them," I thought, grinning.

"I could do this as well," I murmured, watching the blood churn and explode, splattering my face. I snapped out of my daydream and saw Elijah looking at me.

"Brother? Are you okay?" he asked with concern.

"Yes! Let's eat after I finish cooking," I replied, wiping my face.

After filling our stomachs, I looked at the lake, eager to try my magic on the water. I started by stirring the water and was amazed at how easily I could master it. "But what I've done so far is just elemental manipulation," I realized. "As a magician, conjuring any elemental attribute is key. Most can only master one or two elements. Mastering all is rare and incredibly difficult."

Suddenly, I remembered Elijah's words. He was eager to learn magic with me.

"Now, do you want to learn the basics with me?" I offer him to begin his lesson..

"Yes!" he replied eagerly.

I led him to a suitable spot for training, and his excitement was palpable.

"Listen here," I began, "what's important about magic is feeling your own magic first."

I explained the magic pillars that live among us.

"Now, close your eyes and feel the magic inside you. Do you see anything?"

"No! I don't see anything. It's just dark," Elijah responded.

"Correct. Next, imagine there is a light in there. Any color you want—blue, yellow, red, purple—anything."

"Yes! I see it," he said after a moment.

"Then, let the light illuminate that darkness as wide as you can reach."

Suddenly, a weak magic aura emanated from his body.

"That's right. Keep holding on to that feeling," I encouraged him.

Elijah smiled brightly. "I can feel it, right?"

"Yes, brother. But it makes me sleepy," he admitted.

I felt a surge of happiness that he could do it perfectly on his first try. "Okay, that's enough for today," I said.

Elijah opened his eyes. "What?! That's all? I thought you were going to teach me how to shoot magic like you."

"Nah, of course I'm not teaching you that. I can barely do it myself. Besides, it's nonsense for a kid to surpass his older brother," I teased.

"Aww, not fair. This is not fun," he pouted.

"Well, I figured it out by myself from the beginning. If you're lucky, you can do it without me teaching you," I said with a wink.

"Alright! I'm going to figure it out," he declared, determination in his eyes.

"He's really a fast learner, able to do that earlier," I thought, pride swelling in my chest.
