"My king… it has been done."
The King of Shadover turned slowly, fingers tightening around the arm of his throne.
Curiosity sharpened his features, eyes gleaming beneath the flickering torchlight that lined the obsidian hall.
"I cannot wait. Spill."
The man before him hesitated, glancing around once as though the shadows themselves might be listening. His voice lowered, thick with excitement.
"The woman everyone believes to be blind… Princess Lumina. I do not believe she is blind at all. She can see. I am certain she can…"
Just then a violent force tore through the air, invisible yet devastating.
The man never finished his sentence before a crushing blast struck his chest, hurling him backward like a discarded rag.
His body slammed into the stone floor with a sickening crack, bones shattering on impact.
Blood pooled beneath him instantly.
He gasped, choking, fingers clawing uselessly at the ground as his life spilled out of him.
