"Leah ,I don't even know why you like getting on my nerves !
Besides it was just yesterday that you promised to be of good behaviour and today , you're defiling your own words ?
Never met a soul as stubborn as you are Leah!"He said ,choosing his words carefully so that he doesn't end up hurting her feelings.
"Like seriously? I'm stubborn?
You know what Mr .Man ? You don't open up your trap to talk about keeping a promise when you never kept yours !
Don't preach me when you need it yourself!"Leah gave a quick comeback which Adonis ignored .
It was enough already ;he was tired of all the fights .
"Get dressed after taking a cold shower ! Perhaps it might lighten up your morning !"He said and stood up to leave .
"Where are you going to ?"Leah quickly asked ,standing up to her feet like a caring wife .
Adonis grinned with an unknown blush on his face before turning to look at Leah with a serious look .
"I see wife ,you care about me so much now ,is it ?"He asked sarcastically and she blinked her long eyelashes at him annoyingly.
"Me ? Never !
Just wanted to know if you hadn't changed your mind about taking me to see my mother !"She gathered some guts to ask .
He stepped closer to her and winked at her ,his lips curving into an ironic smile .
"I never meant that as well ! "He said ,calmly looked into her disappointed hazel eyes and that amused him a lot .
" Wait a second Adonis , you're joking right ?"Leah asked nicely ,at least expecting a ray of hope from him but the devil is always a devil .
"What do I even say ? Dear wife ,I don't joke !"Her face went down as soon as Adonis said that .
Her eyes which contained so much implanted hope died immediately and slowly they began to hold heavy tears which welled up in her hazel eyes .
"Wife ! Don't cry okay ? You will soon learn to cope with everything, it's a gradual process !
This is life remember ? Nothing is right and everything is so unfair !
My tummy hurts already and since you didn't prepare me any breakfast , I'd find one by myself!
Enjoy your day !"As soon as he took a step forward .."Adonis !"Leah called and he stopped in his tracks .
"Yes wifey ! Did you just call my name ?"He asked ,irony running across his entire face and Leah had no other choice than to nod in agreement .
"Okay then ,tell me wife ! What do you want your husband to do for you this time around ?
Just ask !"He put the ball before her and she stepped up to him and quietly,stood before him for a while like an innocent girl wanting something from her father .
"Let me go please !"She fell to his knees in tears .
Argh!"He squinted when the bright sun from the window bounced back on his alluring and magnificent face .
Then he looked at the lady in front of him and helped her up to her feet .
Why couldn't she understand that they were simply meant to be ?
"Please let me go ! I've fulfilled my part of the deal just like you told me a month ago !"She cried at his feet .
Adonis tilted his head, watching her like she was a puzzle he already knew the answer to. His voice was calm, almost casual, but it cut deep.
"If I let you go… where would you even go, Leah? Hmm? Back to the hospital to sit by your mother's bed all day? Or to that filthy dump you used to call home?"
She swallowed hard, unable to answer.
"Tell me, wife," he pressed, stepping closer until she could feel his breath. "Where exactly would you run to?"
Leah dropped her gaze to the floor ,unsure of what to say because deep down ,she knew Adonis was right.
She had nowhere to go ,Adonis was simply doing her a favour but her jealousy and ego won't allow her to admit it .
Leah couldn't accept the fact that Adonis had a cassonva lifestyle and she knew that, she wasn't going to be able to have him for herself .
Knowing this ,she wanted to leave but she also knew Adonis would try to stop her and hopefully maybe ,he might just settle his eyes on only her .
But Adonis Mason was Adonis Mason after all.
Adonis chuckled lowly,..."Exactly what I thought," he murmured. "You don't have anywhere to go, Leah. No one to run to. Without me, you'd be lost… and you know it."
Her lips trembled, but no words came out.He reached out, brushing a tear from her cheek ,not gently, but as if wiping away something inconvenient.
"I've given you a roof, a bed, food, and… let's not forget… I saved your precious mother. And yet, you stand here asking me to let you go?"
He leaned in, his voice a whisper against her ear.
"Don't bite the hand that feeds you, wife. It never ends well."
"Don't preach me ,you're not a saint either !"She said to him.
"I've never claimed to be but I've never wronged you .
It's you ,who has wronged me but your ego just won't allow you to admit it ."
Straightening up, he fixed her with a cool smile and stepped back.
"Now… go get ready. I'm in no mood for this little drama of yours today."
Adonis please let me go ! I beg of you ! You can't confine me in here forever ,can you ?
Let me go !"Leah pleaded ,her face red .
"Leah !"He called out sweetly ."Dear wife ,the irony is that ,you can't also cry forever !
Dear wife ..!"Adonis cupped her cheeks in his palms .
"Stop acting so childish and get dressed ,of course ,unless you want me to dress you up !"Adonis teased and quickly out of spite ,she rushed to the bathroom.
Leah leaned on the bathroom tile and heaved a sigh of relief .
Adonis was making it difficult for her ,each day their eyes met ,she fell in love harder .
Yes she wanted to marry him but not out of a business deal or a contract but out of love ,something she knew Adonis didn't feel for her.
