Kairo's palm stayed pressed against the wall, trapping Ayan in place. The tension was no longer invisible — it was suffocating, thick enough to choke.
Ayan's lips curved, almost daring. "What's the matter, Alpha? Afraid you might lose control?"
Kairo leaned in, close enough that his breath burned hot against Ayan's skin. "Control isn't the problem," he growled. "It's what I'd do to you if I let it go."
Instead of recoiling, Ayan tilted his chin up, brushing dangerously close to Kairo's mouth.
"Then do it."
The words cracked something open.
Kairo's grip tightened, his other hand hovering at Ayan's waist but not touching, like the restraint was killing him. His scent flared, overwhelming, all Alpha command and suppressed hunger.
Ayan's eyes glinted, sharp and unyielding. "See? You want this war as much as I do. The difference is—" His lips brushed the shell of Kairo's ear, voice dropping into a whisper. "—I know how to win it."
For a beat, neither moved. Their hearts hammered, breaths ragged, the world narrowed to nothing but the inches between their mouths.
Then Kairo's low laugh cut through, dark and dangerous.
"Careful, Omega. Wars like these don't end with victory. They end with ruin."
But neither of them stepped back.
