Chapter 127 - Chapter 127 : Death

Sasuke moved through the quiet hospital hallway with a speed that almost broke into a run. His breath was sharp, tight, uneven. The moment he returned from training and heard the news—that his sister had been hospitalized—something inside him twisted into a cold, shaking knot.

Flashes of that night came rushing back into his mind, the bodies, the blood, and ultimately the loss.

He lost everything that day, his father, his mother. All he had in the name of family was his sister.

He would not lose her, not like this.

He pushed open the door. A little too harsh to be appropriate for a hospital, but none nagged the young man about it. His face told enough that he couldn't care less if Konoha were to burn right then, he wasn't sorry.

Kiyomi lay motionless on the bed, pale, her breathing shallow. Strange medical seals glowed faintly across her arms. Sakura stood beside her, worry written across her face. Aizawa and two nurses worked quietly on nearby charts.

It was mainly Sukuna who was checking on Kiyomi's condition. She was hurt, but nothing lethal. Like all the attacks were precisely delivered to not leave a lasting impact.

With his RTC, he healed her within minutes.

However, that was the limit of his healing.

Flesh he could heal, however, he couldn't do anything about the mind damage inflicted on her.

Her mind was a chaos.

Sukuna doubted it was permanent or lethal, if his doubt about who did this to them was accurate, then this condition of hers would most likely be temporary.

However, even so, he felt helpless since he couldn't do anything to wake her up right now.

Sasuke stepped inside. His voice came out sharper than intended.

"What happened? Who did this to her?"

Silence filled the room. Sukuna lowered his head, contemplating how much to say. Aizawa exhaled heavily, folding his arms.

"We don't know," he admitted. "Not yet. Until she wakes up, we can't say anything with certainty."

Sasuke's jaw clenched. His hands tightened into fists. Not knowing was unbearable. Someone had attacked her—someone strong enough to put her under a genjutsu so deep that even the hospital's top medics couldn't pull her out.

He moved close to her bed, lowering his voice.

"Kiyomi… wake up. Tell me who did this."

She didn't move.

Not even a flinch.

Aizawa stepped in again. "Her mind is trapped in a high-level illusion. Breaking it isn't simple."

"But you're the medic-nin, right? It's your job. Why can't you just wake her up?" Sasuke asked, borderline shouting.

Sukuna sighed, the boy's emotional control was almost non-existent.

He looked like a particularly angry hamster ready to shoot out lightning.

"She had a lot of surface-level wounds, I healed them all. However, I can't do anything about the mind. Whatever genjutsu that affected her was very strong. Even after injecting her with foreign chakra, she doesn't react.

I doubt it's just the lingering chakra of whoever put her in a genjutsu, or else she should have woken by now.

I believe that kind of genjutsu messed her mind. Badly. In this case, when she'll wake up is not certain.

At least currently no one in the hospital is skilled enough to help her." Sukuna replied, making sure to explain everything with a calm tone.

Sasuke's eyes narrowed.

Strong genjutsu. Strong enough to make someone fall into a coma.

He had felt it before.

That night... it was used on him. Perhaps…

He can't be sure.

He had no proof, but his instincts told him that Itachi was behind this. No one was more capable in genjutsu than his older traitorous brother.

But right now wasn't the time for that, whoever it was, Sasuke swore to find him and kill him no matter what.

However, Kiyomi mattered more now.

"If it's genjutsu... then I know someone who can help." He said, voice cold but hopeful that the person he talked about could help.

There was only one person he knew who could break through almost any genjutsu.

He turned sharply toward Aizawa.

"Can a stronger genjutsu user wake her up? I know someone like that." Sasuke asked, eager to know.

Sukuna knew who he was talking about. Who else but his own genjutsu teacher in the past few years.

Izumi.

However, he doubted that she could do anything in this condition. As he said, the genjutsu had long been broken. It was the mind damage which kept her asleep. Bringing a competent genjutsu user wouldn't do much.

Still, he wasn't going to put a damper on his hope. Let him try, maybe it will work. Maybe...

Aizawa didn't answer immediately.

And in that stillness, Sasuke but even Sukuna felt something wrong.

"Are you by chance talking about one Izumi Uchiha, the one your sister was apprentice under?" he asked.

The bad feeling just went through the roof at that time for Sukuna. Something was definitely wrong, Aizawa didn't tell him how this happened and anything related to that. That was proof enough.

"Yes... why?" Sasuke asked, the silence making him mad.

Aizawa rested a hand on the boy's shoulder—a rare gesture from the usually strict doctor.

"Sasuke… there is something else you should know."

His voice was steady, but the kind of steady that barely held itself together.

"Izumi Uchiha was found dead alongside when they found your sister unconscious..."

The words didn't register at first. They simply hung there, quiet, heavy, unreal.

Sasuke blinked.

"What?"

It was Sukuna who reacted first, his head snapped at Aizawa with intensity strong enough to melt down Susanoo.

"She was killed in the line of duty," Aizawa continued. "There were signs of a powerful battle. We believe she was ambushed."

Sasuke's heart stopped. It felt as if the ground disappeared beneath him.

Sukuna was nearly the same. As this was his genjutsu teacher they were talking about. She never knew his real identity but he at least respected her for teaching him.

A trance went through both boys, like accepting the fact itself was a herculean task.

"That isn't all," Aizawa added, his expression darkening. "Both of her eyes… were taken."

Sukuna's brow shot up to the roof.

'Mangekyo...' Sukuna eyes widen even more, if that was possible, he remembered well their powers. Hell, not many even knew Kiyomi had Mangekyo. Then how?

Sasuke on the other hand just stood completely still.

"Eyes taken."

An Uchiha's worst violation.

His fists shook violently. His breath grew uneven. He stared at the tiles beneath his feet, unable to look at anyone.

Izumi gone.

Kiyomi trapped.

No answers. No justice. No one to strike back at.

Something inside him broke—quietly, painfully, violently.

He wanted to be violent just about now.

Aizawa stepped back, giving him space. Sukuna might have given the boy a comforting shoulder pat if he too wasn't outright shaken.

After a while Sasuke moved away before he could touch him.

He stood beside Kiyomi's bed, staring at her peaceful, unconscious face.

Two people he cared about… the only two who cared about him. Now hurt on the same day.

Whoever did this…

Sasuke's eyes sharpened, turning darker and colder than ever before.

Sukuna even thought he might open his Mangekyo.

"Things are going off the rails..." Sukuna muttered to himself, feeling the weight of the changes he had brought.
