Chapter 1 - A New Path

I still remember the day my father died. It was a brutal reminder of the harsh realities of life. The streets of Cape Town, where I grew up, can be unforgiving. But that event sparked something within me. I knew I wanted to make a difference, to protect others from suffering the same fate.

That's when I stumbled upon the Association of Mystics (AOM). They were a secretive organization, dedicated to hunting down supernatural threats that lurked in the shadows. I was fascinated by their mission and determined to join their ranks.

I spent months researching the AOM, learning about their requirements and application process. It wasn't easy, but I was driven. I wanted to be a hero, to make a difference.

Finally, the day arrived when I could submit my application. I was nervous but hopeful. Would they accept me? Only time would tell.

The waiting game began. Days turned into weeks, and I heard nothing. I tried to focus on my daily life, but my mind kept wandering back to the AOM. Would I be good enough?

And then, the letter arrived. I was invited for an assessment. My heart racing, I made my way to the designated location. This was it – my chance to prove myself

The day of my assessment arrived, and I made my way to the AOM headquarters. As I entered the building, I was greeted by a stern-looking receptionist who led me to a waiting area. Before long, a tall, imposing figure emerged, introducing himself as Mr. Aizawa.

"Welcome, Jacobs," he said, his voice firm but not unkind. "We'll be putting you through a series of tests to determine your suitability for the AOM. Let's begin."

The first task was a physical assessment, where I was asked to run a series of obstacles, showcasing my agility, strength, and endurance. I struggled through the course, feeling like I was barely scraping by. Mr. Aizawa watched with an unreadable expression, making notes on his clipboard.

Next, I was led to a room where a team of AOM technicians performed a mana scanning process. They attached sensors to my body, measuring my magical energy levels. The results were...underwhelming. My mana levels were barely detectable, which made me wonder if I had any chance of becoming a hunter.

After the scanning process, I was given a series of puzzles and problem-solving tasks, designed to test my cognitive abilities and strategic thinking. I managed to solve them, but I could sense Mr. Aizawa's skepticism.

As the assessment concluded, Mr. Aizawa approached me, his expression still unreadable. "Jacobs, your physical abilities are...lacking. However, your determination and problem-solving skills are notable. We'll be in touch soon to inform you of our decision."

I left the AOM headquarters feeling uncertain, wondering if I had done enough to impress them. Little did I know, my journey was just beginning.
