Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Genetic Mutation?

"D-Dual Kekkei Genkai?"

Fujino Daiki stared in shock, his mouth hanging open. Having taught for over twenty years, he had only heard of the concept of dual bloodlines but had never seen it in person.

A single Kekkei Genkai was enough to make someone stand out in the ninja world, but to possess two... that would be terrifying.

But the moment the kunai's trajectory changed before hitting Hyuga Satoru, it became painfully clear to him: there could only be one explanation.

"Magnet Release, huh…"

As a member of the Hyuga clan, who already possessed the Byakugan, awakening Magnet Release could only mean one thing: Satoru was a dual-bloodline ninja.

Fujino Daiki's eyes glinted as he murmured to himself, "Dual Kekkei Genkai is a serious matter. This needs to be reported to the Hokage immediately…"

The crowd was buzzing with excitement.

"My God, what is dual bloodline?"

"It's probably someone possessing two Kekkei Genkai! I didn't think such a ninja existed."

Even the usually composed Kakashi was startled, his gaze now fixed intently on Satoru. After learning from White Fang, he understood better than most what dual bloodlines meant.

Iryūba, who had been injured by Satoru earlier, clutched his chest and looked at Satoru standing before Uchiha Rin. The shock in his eyes was overwhelming.

"Impossible. This is impossible!"

"In the thousand-year history of the Hyuga clan, no one has ever awakened a second bloodline! The Byakugan is already one of the strongest dojutsu, how could someone awaken another Kekkei Genkai?"

Then, he recalled how Satoru defeated him with a single strike. Could it be that he used Magnet Release in that move? But he'd never heard of Magnet Release having such an ability.

"Satoru... is that strong?"

Red Bean, glancing around at the stunned faces of the crowd, couldn't help but feel curious.

Hokage Office.

A stack of disorganized documents lay on the desk. Sarutobi Hiruzen, with a serious expression, held his pipe, handling the papers.

Suddenly, a figure appeared beside the desk, wearing an animal mask and wrapped in black clothing.

"Speak."

Without looking up, Sarutobi Hiruzen continued his work and casually spoke.

"Lord Hokage," the Anbu member bowed slightly, "I have a report from the Ninja Academy. Fujino Daiki, the instructor of Class A, has informed me that one of his students, a Hyuga clan member, has awakened Magnet Release, possessing dual bloodlines."

Sarutobi Hiruzen's hands froze, and he lifted his head to look at the Anbu agent. His voice became deeper.

"Is the report true?"

"True."

Sarutobi Hiruzen fell silent. He was familiar with Fujino Daiki—he had been teaching at the Ninja Academy for nearly 20 years and was among the most experienced teachers. He was sure that someone with his insight would not make a mistake about such an important matter.

So, there was only one possibility.

Sarutobi Hiruzen's eyes flashed with a sharp light. A Hyuga clan member had truly awakened dual bloodlines, but...

He furrowed his brow. It still seemed impossible.

While dual bloodline ninjas were extremely rare, there were some in the world. The Hidden Mist had a history of dual-bloodline ninjas, but a dual bloodline from the Hyuga clan? He had never heard of such a thing.

The Byakugan was already a rare and powerful bloodline; it was unheard of for a Hyuga to awaken another bloodline ability, and Magnet Release... wasn't that a bloodline of the Hidden Sand?

Could it be a genetic mutation?

Sarutobi Hiruzen pondered for a moment, then spoke softly, "Get me all the information on this Hyuga student, and notify the Hyuga Clan Head. Since this is a Hyuga family matter, they should handle the investigation."

"Yes!" The figure beside the Hokage desk vanished.

Sarutobi Hiruzen exhaled a long stream of smoke from his pipe, slouching back in his chair. A look of exhaustion crossed his face.

"Dual Kekkei Genkai... if all goes well, their future potential is limitless. What a pity... they're from the branch family."

Hyuga Clan Grounds.

As soon as the assessment finished, Satoru returned home, only to have a branch family guard immediately find him and ask him to head to the family's ancestral hall.

Satoru couldn't help but sneer, "That was fast."

Having exposed part of his abilities, he was bound to be scrutinized by the family, but this was part of his plan. His training consumed a lot of money, and if he didn't expose some value, how would he get any returns?

As for the consequences, Satoru had already thought about them. As a branch family member, Sarutobi Hiruzen wouldn't interfere too much, and it would be left to the main family to handle. As for Danzo...

Why would that old man care about a branch family member?

The priority of the caged bird seal was far above squabbles, and wasn't that just like running naked in front of the main family?

So, there wouldn't be any of the usual "Sarutobi, you'll regret this!" or "Danzo, I'm the real Hokage!" scenes this time.

In a sense, the caged bird seal was protecting the branch family, and Satoru only had to face the main family now.

Following the guard, Satoru entered the family's ancestral hall, a place where only the main family and high-ranking branch family members were allowed to go.

This was Satoru's first time in the hall, and he couldn't help but glance around curiously.

The atmosphere here was more solemn than in other areas of the Hyuga clan. The hall exuded an air of authority. Several middle-aged men were sitting cross-legged on mats, and a young man stood beside them.

The guard stepped forward, kneeling respectfully and saying, "Clan Head, he has arrived."

Clan Head?

Satoru glanced at the man curiously. Dressed in a white robe, his temples showed traces of white hair, but his Byakugan eyes were sharp, directly locking onto Satoru.

This man must be the current Clan Head, Satoru thought. He'd heard that his name was Hyuga Mizuki. The young man standing next to him was probably Hyuga Hiashi, though in this timeline, he hadn't yet become Clan Head.

Satoru analyzed silently in his mind.

Seeing that Satoru wasn't intimidated but instead was calmly studying him, Hyuga Mizuki frowned and spoke first.

"Your name is Hyuga Satoru, correct? I've heard you've awakened a second bloodline?"

"Yes," Satoru responded without hesitation, firmly confirming.

The ability of Magnet Release couldn't be hidden if used, and instead of avoiding it later, it was better to claim it as a bloodline, which would save a lot of trouble.

"Magnet Release?"

"Yes."

A brief silence filled the hall.

After a while, Hyuga Mizuki spoke again in a deep tone, "In the nearly thousand-year history of the Hyuga clan, it seems no one has ever awakened another bloodline. Why do you think you did?"

Everyone else's eyes turned to Satoru, waiting for his answer.

Satoru shook his head. "I don't know."

There was no way he was going to answer that question. He could only refuse to acknowledge it.

"When did you awaken?"

"It was when I received the news about my father's death. At that moment, I felt like the world was falling apart, and something inside my head felt like it was about to explode. I lay in bed for a few days, and when I woke up, I realized something was different."

"I didn't know I had awakened Magnet Release at the time, but I gradually realized I had developed other abilities."

Satoru spoke smoothly, while Hyuga Mizuki and the others exchanged glances, their expressions changing constantly.

Before Satoru's arrival, all the relevant information about him had already been laid out before them. They knew about his family—his mother died during childbirth, and his father, a guard of the branch family, died on a mission. The records mentioned that Satoru fell ill after his father's death, but it wasn't very specific.

Could it be that he awakened due to the emotional trauma after losing both parents?

Why only him? A genetic mutation???

Satoru's expression remained unchanged, but inside, he sneered. He had inherited his predecessor's memories, so he knew he'd fallen ill after his father's death, which he could use as an excuse.

The Hyuga clan didn't marry outside their family, so his identity and bloodline were indisputable. His parents were already dead, with no witnesses left to contradict him. No matter what, the only explanation left was a genetic mutation.

Moreover, with the caged bird seal on his forehead, there was no way he could pose a threat to the main family. So, the outcome was already set.

After a long silence, Hyuga Mizuki nodded, seemingly accepting Satoru's explanation.

Just as Satoru breathed a sigh of relief, Hyuga Mizuki suddenly raised his head and fixed his gaze on him.

"Since you've already awakened this new bloodline, why have you never gone to the family's training grounds to practice, and why didn't you tell us about it?"
