3Chapter 7: Worm 7

Earlier...

"Saena. How does that sound?"

{Analysis: . . . Feminine. Related to public designation 'Simurgh.' Tonal analysis: . . . Exceptional. Private designation accepted.}

I smiled at her expressionless face, then slowly rolled off of her. For a moment, she held me in place...then allowed me to go. "Right. So, there are some things we need to talk about."

{Awaiting query.}

I tapped my chin. "First, and most important: Do you have control of the other Endbringers? Er, the other weapons?"

{Negative. Shard interface disconnected.}

"Ah." I snapped my fingers as I frowned. "That makes sense; I should have thought of that. In that case...what's the likely outcome of that? Assuming you no longer register as 'active,' will another weapon come online?"

{Analysis: Likely. Command Shard active, directives unchanged.}

I narrowed my eyes. "Command Shard...I'm guessing that's Eidolon."

{Affirmative.}

"What would happen if his connection to the Command Shard was severed?"

{Unknown. Command Shard not intended for host use; reaction to interruption unpredictable. Likely potential outcomes: Weapons dormant / all weapons activated / current weapons unbound.}

"Hmm. Annoying. All right. Is there a specific pattern for the weapons to activate?"

{Affirmative. Primary weapons 1 'Behemoth', 5 'Leviathan', and 11 'Simurgh' activated. Secondary weapons activated under correct circumstances.}

"Correct circumstances?"

{Analyzing . . . Likely scenario: 'Simurgh' unavailable. Deploy secondary weapon with focus 'disruption / chaos'. Candidate: Weapon 7+8, 'Tohu / Bohu'.}

I tapped my fingers against my thigh. Slowly, several of her wings slid over and under my body, gently rolling me back on top of her where she wrapped her arms around me again, crossing them over my stomach and gently curling her fingers around my hips.

She'd rolled me onto my back this time, with my head resting between her breasts...it was comfortable, and she was soft – and I didn't need eye contact to talk to her, anyway. "Are they likely to be deployed in place of Leviathan? The next attack is due soon."

{Indeterminate. Command Shard designed to resist precognitive attempts utilizing Entity-defense protocol.}

"Hmm. All right. Different topic: Bonesaw. Can you model her behavior with the Stamp applied?"

{Affirmative. Addendum: Accuracy reduced to 92.338% during data acquisition.}

"That should be plenty. The goal is still to reclaim her from Jack – but I'm better equipped to engage him on a different battlefield, now. This is the plan: I want your help to maximize the chances of success. If I don't think of something that will affect the outcome, volunteer that information. All right?"

{Affirmative. Awaiting input.}

Later...

Riley had been silent for the return flight, but I could tell she was thinking deeply about...something. Not surprising – if my estimates of her were correct (and Social Talent was telling me they likely were) she'd be buzzing with internal confusion. This was an important decision for her – after all, messed up as he was, Jack Slash had been her mentor figure for...well, a minimum of 6-8 years. I wasn't entirely sure how old this version of her was, after all.

Her eyes snapped to the portal as soon as it was in view, though, and I could see her brow furrow. Now that we'd made the initial trip to the House, the portals connected to the portal room unless otherwise specified – that had been a useful function to discover. So what she saw was a flat hole in the sky leading into a nice, if unfurnished, room.

Once we passed through and were able to view in 360 degrees, though, the portal machine became visible and her eyes widened.

"Where did...? Is this Haywire's work?" Her voice was higher-pitched than I'd have assumed from her face. I wondered if she'd heightened her pitch to keep with her cutesy image?

"It isn't. It's a bit complicated – I'll explain later, but for now just accept that it's one of several things my benefactor supplied me with. Along with your lab, and if you'll follow me I'll show you there. I imagine you'd want to see it first." I took a step towards the hallway, then paused. Clearing my throat, I turned on my heel and bowed slightly. "Ah. Before that, though. My cape name is Majesty, but –" I allowed the shadows cloaking my face to recede, "– I'd prefer it if you'd call me Michael instead."

She peered into my face with slightly narrowed eyes...then her demeanor shifted and she curtsied. "Nice to meet you, Mr. Michael! I'm Bonesaw!"

I shook my head. "I'd rather you be Riley, actually. Do you mind if I call you that?"

She paused, blue eyes staring up at me, then stood up straight. "...If you want." Her voice was more subdued, suddenly. Unfamiliar territory, I suppose.

I clapped my hands together. "Then let's go. This is the portal room; it's roughly in the center of the house, more or less. From here, there's two main branches – that way has the gym, the training room, the firing range...rooms of a more active nature, more or less. This way are the bedrooms, offices, library...and, of course, your lab."

At the mention of her lab, she started skipping forward, swishing her skirt from side to side. She paused, turning to make sure I was following – which I did, chuckling and shaking my head. After I indicated the needed door, which opened on its own, we entered the lab – I hadn't actually checked it after the House generated it, and I was surprised at how...nice it was. Clear, sterile tile, efficient layout, pods that held what looked like chunks of flesh (Saena had already dropped off her samples, it seemed), what looked like refrigeration units, surgery tables...

Bonesaw's eyes were wide and almost shining with excitement. I got the impression she'd been expecting something...less, which was a bit sad. Then she cleared her throat, turning to me and clasping her hands behind her back, swaying her shoulders back and forth. Even knowing it was mostly an act, it was still cute. Even if she was still covered in blood. "What...exactly do you want me to do? Are you starting your own Nine from your super-secret base?"

"Heh. No, not quite. For now, I just want you to settle in. Examine Saena's samples, see what you can figure out about them." She gave me a funny look, and I blinked. "Ah. Saena – that's the Simurgh's name, in private."

"You named it?"

I frowned, and she flinched reflexively. In response, I could only sigh. "It's 'she' now."

"Um. Of course. Sorry."

I shook my head. "No, you're humoring me – I mean it. Before, she was genderless, so 'it' was the correct thing to say. That isn't true anymore – so 'she' is what you should call her, okay? Would you want someone calling you an it?"

"People do that all the time, though." She pouted slightly. Then her eyes flicked over my shoulder. "So...she's really...?" Then she blushed and looked away, and I already knew what Saena had done. "That's - don't do that!"

{Amusement.}

I raised an eyebrow, glancing over my shoulder to confirm – yes, she was on full display – before I spoke. "Don't you see plenty of that while you're working?"

"It's different when I'm doing surgery," she muttered, still blushing, eyes scanning the lab again and pointedly not looking in our direction.

Saena. Shroud, please.

{Deployed.}

Motes of light cocooned her, condensing into a continuous white cloth with gold accents, snaking around her body in an apparently infinite loop. It still left little to the imagination, but the way it wrapped around her body was...quite pleasant, and combined with the way her wings hugged her it did make her look the part of a stereotypical angel.

Bonesaw glanced at us out of the corner of her eye, then turned towards us again. "That's really all you want?"

"Well. I do hope you'll work your magic on me soon – I'd like your brand of upgrades. But I'd like to see if studying her gives you any new ideas, first."

She tapped her chin, walking up to me – then around me in a circle. "Hmm hmm. Can I take a sample?"

"Sure." I didn't wince when her backpack revealed itself to be one of her spider-bots and jabbed me with a needle. Thank you again, Company bullshit.

"Okay! I'll think up some ideas while I'm working on the Simu – uh, on Saena's samples. Is there anything in particular you want?"

"A Brute rating would be a nice start. I'd prioritize defense over offense, personally, but I'd still like to hear your ideas." She'd been getting steadily more and more distracted as we talked, and I figured it was about time. "That's all; good luck with your analyses. If you need anything, the computer's keyed into the local network so you can contact me." As soon as I was finished speaking, she rocketed off towards the tanks containing Saena's flesh, bouncing with what seemed to be genuine childish glee.

I left her with a smile, heading back to the study to see if there'd been any news on the Slaughterhouse Nine yet. And, as had become expected, I was interrupted as Saena swished in front of me, placing her hands on the desk and nearly bending over backwards as she extended her lower body towards me.

{Submitting request: Pleasure.}

A sweet smell drifted over to me as she spread her thighs, and I couldn't help but chuckle as I approached her.

As I drew my tongue slowly up her pussy and her thighs closed around my head, leaving me with just enough room to breathe, I closed my eyes and hummed in contentment.

Damn, she really does taste sweet.

I'd do my research later.
