The Celestial Roulette

Chapter 16: Family Meeting

– Felix Dallon (Sugar Rush) –

100cp gained, 100cp total

The girls are still sleeping, as my power once again grants me some random points. I do still wonder what triggers the 100cp that I get every so often, but I suspect I'll never get an answer.

[I Need a Hero!] - 100cp, 0cp remaining

A hero is one who is noted for their courageous and noble acts. What's one of the most noble acts one could do, you ask? Why, helping other people, of course! For you, helping people is like instinct. You always know when someone needs help near you, but you also have a rough idea of how they need help, as well as some idea of whether you can help them or not. Never need to waste your time helping someone who can't be saved again! What's that? A real hero tries to save even those who can't be saved? I suppose you'll need patience, then. The patience to put up with a year or two of being friends with a real ass of a man while trying to save him from himself.

That is… a very good roll. As a hero, having a sixth sense for people in need is going to be a massive boon going forward. Instantly, it triggers, telling me that the frizzy-haired girl currently sleeping on my chest needs help, of the emotional support kind. Amy is burning out, and while all the fun she's had since I gained my power is helping, she still needs far more support and relaxation than people have been giving her. As I give her a light kiss on the forehead, she blinks awake with a yawn, her eyes widening as she spots Vicky on my other side (loudly snoring).

"That wasn't a dream," Amy mumbles, making me snort.

"Wuh?" Vicky grumbles, waking herself before her eyes snap open. Sitting up, the covers fall off her body as she looks at the pair of us in shock. "Oh fuck…"

"Fucking is what got you into this mess," Amy retorts with a snort.

"Oh shut up, like you can talk," Vicky defends, pulling the sheet up to cover her breasts for a moment before she sighs and lets it fall. "Little late for that, huh? How's it feel to have fucked your little sisters, Felix?"

"You started it," I retorted maturely, making her snort and nod.

"Okay, fine, yeah, but I only suspected it was you. You knew it was me from the beginning," Vicky argues, running a hand through her hair.

"You know that's not better, right?" Amy cuts in. "'I only thought it was my big brother that I was sexting.'"

"Fair," Vicky admits, hesitating as she examines the changes Amy made to her, Vicky looking like a sluttier version of herself. "What happens now? We can't just pretend that this didn't happen."

"I don't want to pretend it didn't. I love Felix, and I don't care if people think it's wrong," Amy says stubbornly, making me give her a half hug and place a kiss on her forehead. "What do you want to do? You do still have a boyfriend, who probably saw you drag Felix away and not return until the next morning."

Vicky pales, realising how that looks. I'd say Dean would jump to conclusions, but there's no conclusion to jump to. He'd be absolutely right.

"I'm going to talk to our family today," I say, cutting in.

"About us?!" Vicky squeaks, making me laugh. Yeah, cause that would go so well. Hey, Mom, just letting you know I'm fucking Amy and Vicky.

"No, dumbass, about me being Sugar Rush. I want to empower the rest of our family; any of you could have died yesterday because I wanted to keep my identity a secret," I explain, a shiver of guilt running through me. "You could tell Dean that you were confronting me about my identity; he's a good guy; he won't spill my identity. Alexandria and Eidolon know who I am anyway."

"I… his power would sense I'm lying," Vicky explains, watching as I mentally summon a golden apple with a smile.

"Unless you joined Amy and me in immortality, with a nice little resistance to thinker and master powers as a bonus," I explain, making her eyes widen. "Me and Amy? We don't age anymore and won't for a thousand years. It's a big deal, I know, but I can probably find a way to age us or remove the effect down the line, given how fast my power is growing. To be clear, you can still die, just not from age or disease."

Vicky takes the apple, looking between me and Amy for a moment before she gives me a smile and leans in, biting into the apple with a moan of pleasure.

"I can probably age you if you wanna look older, you'd still be the same age, but cosmetic changes are so fucking easy," Amy admits, making Vicky pause.

"Wanna try? Make me look like I'm in my twenties," Vicky offers, making Amy roll her eyes as she places a hand on her. Vicky immediately starts to shrink, squawking in offence as her breasts shrink, and we're left with a Vicky who barely looked twelve.

"Oh, did you say twenties?" Amy asks with a smug grin. "Stop pouting so much, brat, or I'll have Felix spank you."

"Oi, fix this," Vicky demands, sulking like the child she has become as Amy taps her again. Vicky grows back to her normal body, losing the more obvious changes that Amy made earlier as Amy snorts in amusement.

"You're hilarious, Amy. Seriously though, Felix, what is your power? Nothing about you makes sense," Vicky admits, making me laugh.

"I'm the Trump. By Eidolon's own words, I'm the new and improved him. My power is constantly growing; just last night, I became a better healer than Panacea," I say, making Amy look at me with a furrowed brow. "No offence, but I have the skills of a God of Healing, literally. I can fix Dad's depression; I can fix anything beyond death itself."

"That's why you want to talk to them," Amy realises, making me nod as Vicky's eyes widen.

"Part of it, yeah. I also want to give everyone in our family a Heart-Shaped Herb and a Golden Apple. I won't let anything happen to them just because I wanted to keep a secret," I agree, getting a warm smile from Vicky.

"Would that herb be why Amy looks like she could bench-press me?" Vicky asks, making Amy giggle.

"I probably could, and this bastard could probably bench-press Behemoth at this point. He has so many buffs on himself; it's terrifying," Amy explains, stroking my abs.

"I don't have much buffing my endurance yet, so I've been keeping my distance, but I am very strong," I admit, getting an impressed look from Vicky, a challenging look in her eyes.

Our conversation is derailed by an impromptu arm-wrestling competition, where I beat Vicky with ease, [Power Overwhelming], the Herb, and [Shinobi] are all synergising to make me a match for her, and Earthbones lets me cheat like a bastard.

Amy then beats her as well because she's a filthy cheat as well and simply turns Vicky's arm off. Listening to the two naked girls squabble, I chuckle to myself as it turns into a wrestling match on the bed, which Amy once again cheats at, paralysing Vicky with a touch.

When I check my phone, I wince at the missed calls. Yeah, Mom and Dad got home to find me, Vicky, and Amy missing. I didn't really think that one through, did I?

This is going to be a fun conversation. Replying with a text, I drag the two squabbling girls into the shower, and despite Vicky's misgivings last night, she doesn't hesitate to rub her soapy body against mine, giggling as I pin her to the shower wall.

I can sense her guilt, but it's over Dean; she wants this.

– Later –

It has been a long time since there was an 'all hands on deck' New Wave meeting. Both sides of the family are here, and Crystal gives me a knowing look as Mom visibly stops herself from shouting at me with a hand on her shoulder from Aunt Sarah.

"Felix, care to explain where you were last night?" Mom asks, her tone clipped as she stares at me with her lawyer stare. "And don't think you two are getting away with your own disappearing act during the party."

Moondragon connects with all their minds and confirms what I suspected. Aunt Sarah, Uncle Neil and Crystal worked it out; Crystal worked it out during my second public appearance and Aunt Sarah and Uncle Neil talked about it after Behemoth.

Mom hasn't worked it out; she thinks I slipped out to join the worldwide celebrations over Behemoth's death. She may be a lawyer, but she has a blind spot where I am concerned. Even Dad was pulled out of his depression enough to worry about my absence, which makes me feel guiltier. Eric also hasn't figured it out, but he is the youngest here.

I hesitate for a moment before I just sigh and click my fingers, causing buns to appear on the table in front of us. Amy snorts at my silent admission, grabbing an eclair with a shrug as she watches the chaos. Eric lets out a shout, catching on as Dad's eyebrows rise.

The betrayal I sense from Mom is staggering, her eyes narrowing.

"Felix?!" Mom asks, her tone hurt as I smile awkwardly, but Aunt Sarah places a soothing hand on her shoulder and turns to me, ever the diplomat.

"You are Sugar Rush, then?" Aunt Sarah asks rhetorically, making me nod. "I take it you had a reason for not telling anyone?"

"I did tell someone; I told Amy so she could make sure my creations weren't dangerous," I defend myself, before sighing. "I… didn't want to show off my powers because I didn't know if I was even going to stick with the hero thing. All I could do at the time was summon cakes and a bat that blows itself up, not exactly noteworthy. I knew if I showed you my powers, you'd have wanted me to join New Wave, and the moment I unmasked, any chance I had at just dropping it if my powers stayed so irrelevant was gone."

Crystal frowns for just a moment, knowing exactly what I mean. She's stepped back from Cape life for the most part, but she'll always just be 'Laserdream'.

"You should have said something, especially before you attended an Endbringer attack! What if you had died, and we came home to find you gone forever?!" Mom asks, her voice shrill as I nod.

"I know, but I didn't know how to start that conversation, so I kept delaying it. Vicky worked it out; that's why she dragged me off after the fight," I explain, giving Vicky an out as Mom looks at her before turning back to me.

Crystal raises an eyebrow, wiggling it momentarily with a slight smirk. Oh, she knows. She always did know me best, especially after we went to college together.

"And now everyone thinks Sugar Rush is sleeping with Panacea and Glory Girl," Mom points out. I school my reaction, and Amy doesn't react. Vicky does, unseen by Mom, but I catch a sliver of suspicion in Aunt Sarah's mind. I could squash it; Moondragon would let me remove both Crystal and Aunt Sarah's suspicions, but I stop myself before I reach out. If I start that, when do I stop? I could remove Mom's anger, but then what? "Did you even consider that? When you unmask-"

"I'm not unmasking. I'm letting you guys know my identity, but to the rest of the world? I remain Sugar Rush," I say, my tone hard as Mom looks at me in anger. "Sugar Rush is a world-renowned hero now, the slayer of Behemoth. If I unmask, I'll never have a moment of peace. I know you want me to join New Wave, but it isn't happening. I have my own team, Candyland, and I'm doing good work. I plan to work with New Wave, but it isn't for me."

I can sense the anger building up in Mom's chest, feeling betrayed and hurt, but she forces it down and takes several deep breaths.

"Your team of villains? Tattletale, Hellhound and Squealer?" Mom asks, making me nod.

"All three of them found themselves villains either by being forced into it, by Coil and Skidmark, or because they were accused of a murder they didn't commit like Hellhound. They deserve a second chance," I say, making Mom sigh as Aunt Sarah once again places a hand on her shoulder and cuts in.

"Carol, this is Felix's choice. He only gained his powers recently; you can't blame him for having doubts. Felix, can I ask how your power works?" Sarah asks, making me nod.

"I'm a Trump, the Trump, according to Eidolon himself. My power grows constantly, especially when I perform 'feats', like taking down villains or Endbringers like Behemoth. At first, I didn't realise how strong my power was. I probably wouldn't have gone with Sugar Rush in hindsight, but it doesn't seem to have a limit. I just keep getting stronger," I admit, making Crystal snort.

"You always did fanboy over Mouse Protector. For the record, the moment I heard those dumb puns you made against Uber and Leet, I figured it was you," Crystal admits shamelessly.

"And you didn't think to tell anyone?" Mom asks, making Crystal shrug.

"I only suspected it was him, especially when I heard that he 'approached' Amy when Felix was out with her. I could have been wrong, and even if I wasn't, it wasn't my place to unmask him," Crystal replies with a carefree grin.

"Holy shit, my cousin killed an Endbringer," Eric whispers, making me give him a grin. "Damn, Felix."

"Damn is right, to be honest. I'm still processing that one," I admit with a laugh.

"How did you do it?" Eric asks excitedly, and I see everyone turn to me, but I just smile.

"I can't tell you. It's not just my secret to share. Sorry, Triumvirate orders," I admit, making him pout briefly before giving me a grin. I can sense the awe in his mind, and Uncle Neil ruffles his hair with a smile.

"You certainly got one hell of an impressive power," Uncle Neil praises with a chuckle. "I don't blame you for not wanting your name to be public, not with the attention you'll be getting."

"I'm publicly 'dating' Sugar Rush, so it'll explain away why he's on such good terms with us anyway," Amy says, and Mom goes to argue before she rubs her head.

"That's going to backfire and bite us all in the ass. If Felix gets exposed, the world will think you were sleeping with your own brother," Mom points out, and I see the way Sarah watches us carefully. I don't respond, and Amy just rolls her eyes, but once again, Vicky gives us away.

"I'm sure it'll be fine, Carol. I'm sure Felix will be careful not to expose himself, and besides, even if he does get exposed? Felix killed an Endbriger, and Amy is the world's best healer," Sarah points out. "Any mark on their reputation won't even come close to staining it."

"Second best healer," Amy says, making everyone blink. "Felix is better than me now."

"Right, that's part of the reason why I wanted to unmask to the family. I gained a very strong healing power after Behemoth… I know how to fix Dad's depression," I say, making Dad look up from where he'd been listening to the conversation. "It's just a chemical imbalance in the brain; it's child's play, really."

"You're a healer now, as well?" Crystal asks, making me nod as she whistles. "You are bullshit."

"You have no idea," I laugh, turning back to Dad.

"I… it's risky; what if you do something wrong? Amy can't fix it if you break his brain," Mom says, and I just smile.

"I trust Felix," Dad says, giving me a small smile as Mom looks between us before she sighs. "What do I need to do?"

"Nothing," I say, getting up and approaching him as I place my hand on his head. A golden light leaves me and engulfs him as he gasps, and the minor flaws in his brain correct themselves at my command. I am divine; between this, the Apple and Earthbones, I'm not quite a god, but I'm getting there. [Power Up] lets me empower myself with an emotion, and I empower my own healing with my love for my Dad. He has struggled for years and tried so hard to push through this stupid imbalance, and he will recover.

Pulling back, I watch as the clouds in his mind clear, and he smiles at me, the smile far more genuine than his usual tired attempts.

"How do you feel?" Mom asks, looking at him nervously as Dad grins.

"Amazing," Dad admits, looking around the room as a feeling of joy spreads around the table, even brightening Mom's gloomy mind. "Your power is incredible, Felix."

"Believe me, I know, and I'm only getting stronger with every passing day," I admit, looking down at my hand with a frown. I have so much power, and I am only getting more powerful.

Feat Achieved: Cure Mark Dallon's Depression (100cp), 100cp gained.

[My Soul is Armor] - 200cp, locked (100cp remaining)

Your soul's light shines brightest in battle. Whenever you take damage in battle, you are able to take half of it as damage to your mana supply instead, reducing it by that much.

"There's one more thing. I have access to more permanent buffs than my cakes. A heart-shaped herb that turns anyone who ingests it into a fairly powerful brute, and golden apples that give you a massive resistance to master and thinker powers… and extend your lifespan by a thousand years or so, making you very resistant to disease as well. I don't want anything to happen to any of you. Any of you could have died yesterday while I was sitting on something that could have saved you," I say with a frown, watching their eyes widen.

"A thousand years?" Mom asks, shock clear in her tone.

"I've seen them work; they do exactly what he says they do," Amy agrees, and Vicky nods.

"I've taken the Apple but not the herb yet," Vicky admits.

"That's so cool- Wait, would I be stuck at fourteen?" Eric asks, making Amy snort.

"If you didn't have an amazing cousin who could age you with a touch, yes," Amy admits. "That stuff is easy for me. I tried earlier and turned Vicky into a preteen again."

"Yeah, thanks for that, bitch. I said older," Vicky whines, making Amy smirk.

"I just made your body match your mental age," Amy snarks back, Vicky maturely sticking her tongue out and proving her point.

"Man, all my cousins are scary. Sorry, Vicky, but you're kinda the least impressive," Eric admits, getting an insulted noise from Vicky as Eric grins at her. "Hey, we've got Amy, the super healer, Eidolon's cooler twin and some chick who punches stuff."

"Are you sure about this, Felix? When word gets out that you can do this, the demand will be insane," Aunt Sarah says, making me nod.

"I know, but I am sure. We all live dangerous lives, and if I can increase your chances even slightly, then I have to. I can heal anything short of death itself, but that doesn't change the fact that any of you could have died yesterday, even staying back. If any of you die, and I didn't make this offer, I'll spend the rest of my life wondering if I could have saved you," I admit, making her smile softly. "You're my family. I might not want to join New Wave directly, but I won't let anything happen to you guys."

My mind goes back to Aunt Jess. I was old enough to remember how bad things were after she was killed. One day, I'm going to find the thug who shot her and introduce them to my Carnifex. Kaiser claims he didn't order it, and I hope for his sake that I find out he's telling the truth when I look into his mind.

If he ordered Fleur's death, I'll be ordering his.

Aunt Sarah shares a look with Uncle Neil before turning to Crystal and Eric.

"We accept gratefully. You're a good man, Felix; you always have been. It's good to see that such immense power hasn't changed that," Aunt Sarah praises.

"I accept as well, of course," Dad says, giving me a proud look. "A thousand years, huh? I feel like I've missed out on years, so I don't mind having a few centuries to make up for it. Worst case, we can just peacefully end our own lives when we're tired, right?"

"True, not something I want to consider for a few hundred years or so, but the Apple doesn't make you immortal, just unageing," I agree.

"I- damn it, I accept. I'm still unhappy you kept this from us, but I can't deny that I do see your point," Mom admits. "I am proud of you, Felix; you proved that Endbringers can die and saved Cairo and so many other lives."

I can sense the truth in her words, even as she forces down her dark thoughts and the feeling that I somehow betrayed her. Both by not telling her and by choosing to wear a mask despite what New Wave stands for. Dad gives her a proud smile, placing a hand on her leg as she smiles back at him.

Feats Achieved: Make Carol Dallon Chill The Fuck Out For Once. (Epic Feat: 200cp), Gain New Wave's Undying Trust (Epic Feat: 200cp), Become Shielder's Icon (100cp), 500cp gained. 100cp spent to unlock [My Soul is Armour], 400cp remaining.

Ignoring that first one, the second and third make me smile as I open the portal to the castle with a smile.

"Shall we?" I ask.

– Later –

The empowerment of my entire family went smoothly, with Bastet accepting each one happily. I don't know what they saw on their own vision quests. Vicky came out of hers with a strange smile, and Mom had a thoughtful frown on her lips. I could find out, but I suppress the urge to search their minds.

Feat Achieved: Massively Empower New Wave (200cp), 200cp gained. 600cp total.

[Crossing Arcadia] 400cp, 200cp remaining

Who can defeat what they can't even see, let alone hit? Calling you fast is like saying Troy was a bit of a stalemate. You have a simply absurd capacity for moving swiftly and with great agility. It's pretty much instant movement to almost any point you can see, with such speed that even a bolt of lightning will struggle to catch up to you. It's not just how fast you run either, as every move you make on a smaller scale is just as fast, making actually fighting you almost impossible as you dodge and strike with speed unbelievable outside the realm of the divine. You've got the reactions to move at this speed like you were just moving as an ordinary person, plus you and the stuff you're using won't suffer any harm from moving and impacting when you're going this fast, and what's better, you don't slow down unless you'd be brought to a complete standstill. Any obstacles that might just slow you, like deep water, easily breakable walls, or weaker warriors, now won't lower your speed at all if you run right through them. You're like a bloody tornado on the battlefield.

I can feel the world slow down to a standstill. Uncle Neil was sparring with Dad, the two empowered fighters clashing with a fair amount of skill, but as I watch them, Dad's kick seems to move so very slowly, the world in slow motion. Then it moves back to normal again, but I know those reaction times and speed are just waiting to be called upon.

With this and [I Need a Hero!], I'll be aware of any crime going on near me and be able to get there in seconds. I am what Velocity wishes he was, and now 'near me' has become the entire city. The Boston criminals will be lucky if I don't show up and solve their crimes, too, because, with this, I have the time.

[Kinesthetic Learner] - 200cp, 0cp remaining

You learn faster physically and through experiencing stuff than in classroom environments. This does not mean that you learn slower from classroom environments than you did before – it simply means that you're more of a kinesthetic learner than before, and you learn things about ten times faster when you learn them kinesthetically. And, when it comes to combat, you can learn it ten times faster kinesthetically than you can learn normal things kinesthetically, meaning that you can learn combat one hundred times faster than normal.

Well, I did say I needed to learn how to fight, didn't I? I won't say no to learning a hundred times faster in combat. The city probably isn't ready for an empowered New Wave.

They definitely aren't ready for me.
