Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Shiroe Shirogane

High School DxD.

An ecchi light novel that dangerously borders on the H domain in its overall conception.

Yet, it taught Carl a tremendous amount about personal development.

Issei Hyoudou is a pathetic character who doesn't evolve much for a long time in the story.

But Carl was able to follow his "very slow" evolution, from an ordinary teenager to a super-class level devil.

This pervert even gained courage, even though he had immediately fled when encountering Dohnaseek.

An event dating back to the beginning of his adventure in the supernatural world.

All thanks to what?

Pairs of breasts...

Especially when you know he was able to meet all the intellectual requirements to enter Kuoh Academy because of this part of women's anatomy.

It really doesn't take much to motivate a man.

"I... I look strangely like Shiroe from Log Horizon, is this a coincidence?" he said, touching his face all over in front of the mirror.

In the mirror before Carl's eyes, there was a thin man of average height (1.77 m).

He had black "sanpaku" eyes and typically Asian dark hair, all accompanied by round glasses.

"...hmm. Possible, but it's not a bad draw."

According to Carl's memories, Shiroe has a certain success with women in the Log Horizon story.

As for Carl?

He doesn't know...

He never suffered discrimination regarding his appearance, unlike certain isekai protagonists like Rudeus, but it's the same for compliments too.

He never received any from people, except from his parents.

Of course, that doesn't count.

'Should I use my power? Motohama must be sleeping at this hour.'

Motohama is his adopted son in this life.

It's an extremely bizarre situation for Carl, since he's barely older than the Japanese teenager in his past life.

As for the reason for this situation?

Motohama's mother is Shiroe's big sister, but she died during an accident with her husband.

No family member wanted the perverted kid under their responsibility, so Shiroe ended up having him under his jurisdiction.

As for the adoption?

It's an act that his former self undertook to facilitate legal affairs, concerning the management of his sister's inheritance for her son.

Shiroe wanted to prevent Motohama from quickly wasting his money on trivial things when he came of age, but also to prevent the interference of ill-intentioned people in his life.

"Legacy!"

After a few seconds without any supernatural manifestation, Shiroe felt extremely embarrassed.

But this was temporary and replaced by uncertainty.

'Why isn't it working?'

Legacy is a power supposed to function on command, but this didn't happen.

A troubling situation, which quickly had a logical answer.

"Has my power become a Sacred Gear?"

The idea was fleeting at first, but it quickly made sense in the young man's mind.

Yes, his power is supposed to work on command, but things change in case of world alteration.

He had even been warned about this phenomenon.

"I'm in the High School DxD universe, so I should try to activate it like Sacred Gear users do..."

Following this line of thought, he cleared his mind and searched for an image of power in his memory.

It took Shiroe about ten seconds to manifest a pair of glasses, which replaced those already in place.

Was there a difference in appearance compared to the previous ones? No.

This pair of glasses is supposed to embody the life of Carl Morales, who was a reader of light novels and manga.

An ordinary life.

"Are you functional?"

There was again an awkward silence, but this time, Carl didn't feel this sense of embarrassment for long.

An electronic sound was heard, emitted directly in his mind.

[Legacy activation in progress...]

[Activation complete]

[Welcome, user]

A cold and emotionless voice resonated in Shiroe's head, while a holographic projection appeared before his eyes.

An excited smile slowly drew itself on the face of the man in his late twenties, after noting the successful activation of his power.

"I have a system!"

[Negative, the term system isn't really adapted to me]

[I am a power born from your "accomplishments" on Earth and my range of action isn't as extensive as a real system]

[You should just consider me as your legacy, or you'll be disappointed or unsatisfied when facing real systems]

"S... sorry, I got carried away."

After expressing his apologies, Shiroe asked himself two questions while observing the holograms before him.

Is his power alive?

Does it have emotions?

When he described his power, he envisioned a cliché level-up system with certain aspects of the unique skill Great Sage.

The latter was able to evolve in Tensura.

Now that his legacy has become a Sacred Gear, can it evolve further and gain sensitivity like Ciel?

'I should explore my power further in the future'

[No problem, host]

"Can I know what you're capable of?"

Once these words were spoken, 5 holographic panels appeared.

[My existence gives access to these capabilities:

• Thought acceleration: the power of this depends on the mana invested.

• Evaluation: analyze all things around you and obtain a certain understanding of them, but this can be biased in certain special cases.

• Parallel calculation: having multiple simultaneous thoughts, but the extent of this power still depends on your capabilities.

• Chant cancel: you don't need to follow the complete processes of casting a spell, as I perform it to make the attack automatic.

• All creation: allows the host to understand anything, provided they have a basic understanding of it and it's perceptible by your senses.

Outside of these, there is the "Menu"]

"The menu? You mean the status, right?"

[Indeed]

Without wasting time, Shiroe asked to see his status.

Name: Shiroe Shirogane

Race: Human

Age: 28 years

Class: Enchanter Lvl 1

Sub-class: Scribe Lvl 1

Strength: 5

Endurance: 5

Intelligence: 40

Speed: 4

Dexterity: 6

Luck: 80

Mana: 100

Skills:

None

Magic:

None

[The average is 5 everywhere in statistics, but the host benefited from his class and sub-class. As for your high luck? It's an aspect of your nature.]

"I understand, the enchanter class and scribe sub-class are intellectual and magical domains."

When Shiroe created the class and sub-class aspect in his legacy, he wanted to integrate certain elements from the Log Horizon light novel.

He didn't directly ask for the skills, but Shiroe wanted the talents that come with them.

What talent?

Players in Log Horizon are naturally gifted in their class and sub-class.

They even have an assistance system in executing their domains, which is a cheat element.

Outside of talent, Shiroe wanted to obtain Log Horizon universe skills during level up or replicate them later.

[Indeed, these elements greatly increased your potential.]

Shiroe spent some time discussing with his legacy, then went to sleep to recover.

He had to assimilate a tremendous amount of information, and this pushed him to rest.

...

"Wake up or I'm gonna kiss you *bam*"

The annoying sound comes from Motohama's alarm clock.

Today is the start of classes at Kuoh Academy.

As an English teacher, Shiroe had to arrive early at the establishment.

Thus, he wakes up early and ended up getting ready quickly thanks to his new memories.

However, Motohama hasn't woken up yet.

As for the crashing noise? Shiroe broke the alarm clock.

'My new identity and my past life aren't saints, but this guy is on another level.'

Motohama's room was the incarnation of degeneracy in Shiroe's opinion.

Unconsciously, he even wondered what Issei Hyoudou's room looks like.

"... Tō-san?!"

=====

Author's note: Well, I promise nothing grandiose about this story but... I'll do my best.

The protagonist's powers will be greatly influenced by Log Horizon and Tensura, so you're warned.

Other info: The real name of the Log Horizon protagonist is Kei Shirogane, but he uses a pseudonym in the game (Shiroe).

The name Shiroe doesn't have a real meaning in Japanese, but it's a play on words with the names Shiro and Kei.

The protagonist kept this pseudonym, and the family name with Motohama became Shirogane.
