Chapter 8 - Chs 8

Morning greeted Raizen High School again.

The sky was clear. The breeze was gentle. The birds were chirping merrily, as if the world were at its best.

And for Arashi Kaito, that was indeed the case.

With a grape-flavored lollipop in his mouth, Kaito walked into class as usual. His silvery white hair reflected the morning light, and his clear blue eyes swept the room with a relaxed expression. He looked like someone who had slept soundly all night and woke up with the confidence of a god.

He sat in his chair calmly, crossing his legs and leaning back. No one knew that the night before, he had received one of the most dangerous weapons in the entire multiverse.

But that joy was doubled when the classroom door opened and Itsuka Shido entered, looking… miserable.

His hair was a little messy. His eyes were droopy, like someone who had spent the night tossing and turning in bed, unable to sleep. His expression was flat. Weak. Even his footsteps felt heavy.

He sat down in his seat slowly, setting down his bag like a thousand-kilogram weight.

And that's when Kaito raised an eyebrow.

"Oh...?" he muttered softly, then grinned.

Kaito leaned forward slightly, leaning on the arm of his desk as he stared at Shido with a look of obvious curiosity.

"Shido..." he called out in a light but deadly tone, "You... why do you look like you just... failed to confess to a girl?"

Shido just stared at the desk. He didn't answer. His breath came out slowly.

"Oh wow, so I was right, huh?" Kaito immediately grinned wider, pulling the lollipop from his mouth and twirling it between his fingers. "You must have used the classic line, right? 'I like you...' and then boom, you got the answer: 'Sorry, I'm not ready to date yet.'"

Shido remained silent.

"Or maybe," Kaito continued, his voice barely a whisper but loud enough to make the surrounding students stifle laughter, "she said... 'Let's just be friends, okay?'"

"..." Shido lowered his head even deeper.

Several female students began whispering behind him. One covered his mouth and laughed, while the other poked his friend while pointing at Kaito and Shido.

Kaito chuckled lightly. "Gosh, Shido. Your face is priceless. Like an actor in a god-level heartbreak drama. Should I lend you a tissue?"

"I… I'm not…" Shido tried to argue.

But Kaito immediately interrupted, his tone flat but playful. "Dude, don't lie to me. The expression of someone who's just suffered a mental attack is universal."

He put the lollipop back in his mouth, leaned back, and stared out the window for a moment.

"Well, not everyone can always win in love," he muttered, as if offering some sage advice. "Some get rejected, some are… too handsome to experience rejection."

Shido could only sigh.

"Seriously, where did you learn to be so annoying all morning?" he asked tiredly.

Kaito turned his head, smiling mischievously. "Natural talent. Just like my good looks."

The sound of soft footsteps was heard. The sliding door opened with a distinctive sound.

"Attention, everyone."

Tamae-sensei stood at the front of the classroom and gestured toward the door.

"Today, we have someone who will be assisting me in managing the class going forward. May I introduce Assistant Teacher Murasame Reine."

A tall, slender woman with long gray hair entered the classroom. Her eyes looked heavy, as if she hadn't slept well, and she held a small tablet in her hand. Her voice was soft, almost a whisper.

"…I'm Murasame Reine… It's been a pleasure… working with you…"

Although her voice was barely audible, the entire class fell silent.

Her charisma… was cold yet mysterious. An indescribable aura that left most of the students transfixed. Some of the boys even held their breath subconsciously.

Kaito, of course, wasn't. He already knew that Reine, or more precisely, the spirit of origin (in disguise), would be a teacher at this school.

Kaito turned his head to see Shido's eyes widen slightly. Kaito smiled faintly. Shido must have been surprised to see an analyst from the spirit-saving organization Ratatoskr suddenly become his class teacher.

Breaktime

Time quickly passed, and lunchtime arrived. Kaito watched Shido rush out of the classroom. He knew it was canon, so he ignored it and headed straight to the cafeteria to buy some food.

After leaving the cafeteria, Kaito walked to class to relax as usual. However, he was suddenly stopped by a girl with short, shoulder-length white hair and a blank face, but Kaito could see the wariness in her eyes.

Tobichi Origami.

"Are you used to attracting attention from the first day?" Her voice was flat, almost without intonation, but enough to make Kaito glance over.

A small, natural yet cautious smile appeared on Kaito's lips.

"Ah, Tobichi-san, is it? I never thought I'd be spoken to by one of the most beautiful girls in school."

Origami didn't flinch. Her gaze was cold and penetrating, as if trying to read every inch of Kaito's face and body language.

"I'm not interested in cheap compliments," she said flatly. "I just want to know... who exactly are you?"

Kaito chuckled softly, playing with his lollipop with his fingers.

"Hmm... transfer student, 17 years old, lives in Tengu City, loves kikufuku and... oh, loves hot tea in the morning," he replied lightly.

Origami took a step closer, enough to close the distance between them to no more than two meters.

"Your data is too... perfect. Too clean. No gaps."

Kaito feigned surprise, his eyes widening dramatically.

"Eh? Could it be that you're a detective?" "Gosh, I should have worn sunglasses and a leather jacket to make myself more suspicious," he said jokingly.

But Origami was unfazed. She tilted her head slightly, like someone contemplating whether the person in front of her was an enemy... or just a good-looking idiot.

"There's something about you that... I can't explain," she murmured softly but firmly. "Your eyes are too calm, like... the eyes of someone who has seen too much."

Kaito didn't argue.

Instead, he smiled slightly and said casually:

"I'm just a new kid who wants a quiet life, Tobichi-san. If I look suspicious... well, maybe I'm too handsome for this world," he said playfully, but the split-second glare in his eyes was almost unnoticeable to anyone except those paying close attention.

Origami continued to stare at him. But for now... she decided to back off.

"Hm. "I'll keep an eye on things," she said curtly, then turned and walked away without another word.

Kaito smiled faintly, watching Origami's retreating back.

"Someone sharp... not the type to be easily deceived," he whispered to himself. "But I don't need to lie... just say nothing."

Kaito then walked to his classroom with a lollipop in his mouth.

Kaito's footsteps sounded light but steady in the second-floor corridor. His silvery white hair reflected the sunlight that filtered through the long window on the left side of the hallway, making his figure seem to walk between light and shadow.

A grape-flavored lollipop was still tucked into his mouth, a remnant of the calm before the world became chaotic.

As he passed one of the large open windows, his steps slowed. His sky-blue eyes glanced outside, onto the still-quiet schoolyard. On one of the towering tree branches near the window, a crow perched, its jet-black eyes staring straight at Kaito. Its gaze… seemed to hold something. A threat? Or just animal instinct?

Kaito squinted. The corners of his lips lifted slightly into a half-smile. His hand lifted, gently removing the lollipop stick from his mouth, now only the small stick of the finished candy remained.

In one smooth, almost imperceptible motion…

"Ztkk—"

The lollipop stick shot out like a bullet.

"Caught in one motion… too Easy."

Crack!

Hit the bird's neck. Its body staggered and fell from the branch, hitting the ground below with a barely audible thud.

Kaito didn't look back.

He simply kept walking.

The sound of his shoes echoed through the hallway. The sunlight danced behind his back, but the shadow he left behind was... too calm, too deep.

"Even the sky has to be careful... if it wants to stare at me for too long."

....

While Kaito was relaxing in class, chatting with the curious girls, the school alarm suddenly sounded.

"A spatial earthquake has been detected. Residents are advised to evacuate to the nearest shelter immediately."

The classroom immediately erupted in commotion, and the students rushed out of the classroom to evacuate. However, Kaito was different. He casually stood up from his chair and, with astonishing speed, disappeared, leaving no one aware of him. He immediately rushed into a dark alley near the school, having just received a mission from the system.
