During break time, Kaito saw Shido and Kurumi walking out of the classroom together. Kaito knew it was a canon scene from the anime, so he simply relaxed in class as usual while contemplating his next plan.
Kaito had a goal in mind since he first arrived in this world. Before the System arrived, Kaito's initial goal in this world was to help Shido solve all the problems he would face as a partner, then live a normal life and get married and have a family. However, after the System arrived, his goal changed. Kaito realized that with this system, he could become a very powerful individual without any help, so he changed his goal.
Kaito's ultimate goal is to destroy the DEM organization.
He was confident that he could destroy DEM directly with his current strength. However, the System gave him a primary mission that prevented him from destroying DEM immediately.
[Ding! The main mission has been released.
[Mission: Fight Itsuka Shido when he's at his peak condition.
Status: Incomplete
Reward: All kido spells (SS), 3x legendary tickets, 50,000 XP, 20,000 PS]
Kaito knew that if he immediately destroyed DEM, Shido would have difficulty gaining all his powers. Shido was able to seal all the spirits because of the conflict caused by DEM. If DEM were destroyed from the start, the storyline would be more chaotic and unpredictable.
From the beginning, Kaito's goal as Noir Blade was to help Shido. By acting as a villain, the spirits would view Shido as their protector, making it easier for them to fall in love with him.
Furthermore, the system seemed to strongly support Kaito's thinking. Every time a spirit appeared, the system always gave Kaito a related mission, making Kaito feel that his efforts were worthwhile.
Kaito continued to ponder in class, and before he knew it, it was already evening. The sky was a beautiful orange, and a gentle breeze made the atmosphere more comfortable.
After pondering, Kaito immediately stood up and walked out of the school grounds, carrying his bag over his right shoulder and his left hand in his left pocket.
This time, Kaito didn't go straight home; he first went to his favorite cake shop after his reincarnation.
There, Kaito bought some sweets and his favorite kikufuku to snack on at home.
While walking, carrying a paper bag filled with sweets, Kaito accidentally passed a girl wearing the same outfit as him. The girl had long hair parted in two and tied up near the ends. Her bangs covered her left eye, revealing only her right, red eye.
Kaito immediately recognized the girl; it was Tokisaki Kurumi, a new transfer student in his class and a cruel and sadistic spirit.
The girl had also noticed Kaito. From the moment he entered the classroom, she had sensed something unusual about him, especially when he caught the chalk thrown by Tamae-sensei while asleep with two fingers, a feat nearly impossible for a normal person. Furthermore, his face was incredibly handsome, like an anime character straight out of the world. Kaito was the most handsome person she had ever met in her life, even before he was a spirit.
"Yo, Tokisaki-san, are you on your way home?" Kaito asked with a slight smile. He decided to greet Kurumi since they were classmates.
"Fufu~ Arashi-san, huh?" she replied in a light yet seductive tone, her red eyes staring directly into Kaito's blue ones without a hint of trepidation. "I didn't expect to see you on the street like this... are you alone?"
Kaito shrugged casually, his other arm still carrying the paper bag containing kikufuku and other sweets. "Well, I was just in the mood for an afternoon stroll. I might as well buy something sweet." He twirled the lollipop in his mouth slowly, then pulled it out with a small smile. "Besides, the weather's nice enough for a walk today, isn't it?"
Kurumi intertwined her fingers in front of her, her demeanor calm but undeniably elegant. "You're right… the air feels so calm, I almost forget the city is on the brink of disaster."
Her tone was soft, but the words made Kaito glance sharply at her for a moment before returning to his smile as if nothing had happened. They stood on the small sidewalk beneath a cherry blossom tree that was beginning to shed its petals, creating an almost magical atmosphere, as if time had slowed down just to make room for their meeting.
"So, Tokisaki-san," Kaito said after a pause, looking straight at her. "What do you think of our school?"
Kurumi smiled softly, but her red eyes held a hidden sharpness. "Quite interesting. Especially the students… some are innocent, some are annoying, and of course, some are… full of secrets."
Kaito chuckled softly, tilting his head. "Is that so? I wish I were the pleasant ones, not the annoying ones."
Kurumi took a step closer, close enough for her soft scent to linger. "I don't know. So far, you're quite interesting… but somehow, I feel like I'm seeing something much deeper than just a handsome face and a relaxed smile."
Kaito suppressed a smile, then looked up at the dusk sky, which was beginning to turn golden orange. The wind blew gently, carrying the scent of leaves and city streets.
"Tokisaki-san," he said, quieter this time but with a serious tone, "I think you've realized… that this city is no ordinary place. Whatever you're thinking, you'd better be more careful from now on."
Kurumi's eyes narrowed slightly, her smile still etched. "Are you warning me?"
"I'm just letting you know," Kaito replied calmly. "You know, in this city, everything can change in the blink of an eye, especially with so many spacequakes happening lately. Once you let your guard down, it might be too late."
Kurumi laughed softly, almost a whisper. "Fufufu~ Is that so? Thank you for the warning, Arashi-san. I'll keep that in mind."
Kaito nodded slightly. "Then, I'll go first. See you at school."
He turned around, his steps calm but controlled. There was no hesitation in his movements, as if he always knew where to go. And even though his back was to the girl, Kurumi continued to stare at him silently.
Her red eyes narrowed. "Interesting…" she murmured softly, barely audible. "You're no ordinary human, Arashi Kaito. Who exactly are you?"
But she simply smiled, then turned and walked in the opposite direction. Amidst the falling cherry blossom petals and the closing dusk, the two figures parted for a moment. But the seeds of suspicion had been planted.
