Chapter 177 - Chapter 177 Clash

SWISH!

A massive amount of energy surged, and Jason used this power to complete a short-range high-velocity blast, vanishing directly from Tony's line of sight.

Tony frowned, immediately disengaging full-power mode. He turned his head, preparing to use JARVIS's smart system to re-acquire Jason's position.

But Tony never expected that Jason hadn't gone far.

He was just ten meters away.

After the battle a few days ago, Jason had discovered another weak spot in the Iron Man suit.

The suit's exterior was indestructible, but its interior was packed with fragile electronic components. The suit relied on them for high-precision operation.

When the arc reactor was at full output, these components would experience a temporary power shortage.

The external manifestation of this on the suit was reduced performance and slow movement.

Moreover, this state wouldn't completely disappear until one or two seconds after disengaging full-power mode.

This brief "recovery" period was Jason's key to a quick victory.

The helmet display locked onto Jason again, but before Tony could react...

He saw Jason using another high-velocity blast, and the man flew toward him at an unbelievable speed.

Tony's expression changed slightly, and he immediately tried to dodge.

But the suit was still in its weakened recovery state. Its movement speed was agonizingly slow, while Jason's speed was terrifyingly fast.

One waxed, the other waned.

In the blink of an eye, Jason was in front of him.

His right hand, crackling with energy, bent into a claw and thrust viciously at the arc reactor in Tony's chest.

A smile appeared on Jason's face, his lips parting slightly. "Checkmate!"

The moment the word left his mouth, he yanked his hand back, ripping the arc reactor clean out of the suit.

Tony's smart display instantly went black. His face was a mask of stunned horror.

Before setting out, he had considered that he might die.

In his imagination, even if he died, it would be after a fierce life-and-death struggle.

He never, ever expected the fight to be over so suddenly. The entire process took less than five seconds.

With the power cut, the repulsors in his boots died. A wave of vertigo hit him, and Tony began to plummet.

Jason, with lightning-fast reflexes, shot out his left hand and grabbed Tony's mechanical arm. He then swung him hard, tossing him onto the edge of the Hollywood summit.

Faced with the abrupt end of the battle, Tony was dumbfounded. Pepper was dumbfounded. And the audience, who had been waiting for so long, was completely dumbfounded.

What the fuck just happened?

All they saw was the two clash, and Tony's arc reactor was ripped out by Jason. And then... there was no and then.

When they snapped out of it, the audience was furious, cursing Tony, cursing the unscrupulous media.

This is what you called an evenly matched fight?

This is the Iron Man who, according to your articles, gave Jason a "sound beating"?

This is the Iron Man suit that everyone from the president down to the media rags called "the future of warfare"?

This is such bullshit!

If the Iron Man suit really represented the future, they'd advise the government to stop this pointless resistance and just surrender to Jason.

A weapon that gets fucking wrecked in one slap... it could never defeat Jason. Never defeat the Joker Organization.

"Tony!" Pepper ran over, stumbling, and knelt beside him. "Tony, are you okay?"

Tony lay on the ground and reached up to clumsily pull off his faceplate. "I'm fine. Not dead yet."

He stood up, his gaze fixed heavily on Jason.

The last time they fought, it was 50/50. But after just a few days, it had turned into a one-sided slaughter. This man's growth rate was terrifying.

Tony clenched his fists, a dark premonition creeping into his mind.

If the government couldn't kill Jason while he was still (relatively) weak, then the future of this world would inevitably fall under the Joker Organization's reign of terror.

Remembering descriptions of "hell on earth" from movies, Tony felt a genuine, bone-deep terror.

Jason held the arc reactor in one hand, examining it closely, as if admiring a precious work of art.

This tiny little thing can produce such powerful energy. Technology really is amazing.

Jason slowly descended to the ground, walking toward Tony with a smile.

Tony tensed, immediately pulling Pepper behind him.

Just as Jason was about to get close, a pale-gold pulse beam shot at him from behind.

David's voice instantly crackled in his earpiece. "Boss, danger! Move!"

Jason frowned, pushing off one foot and leaping into the air.

BOOM!

The pulse beam hit the ground, blasting a massive crater.

Everyone present slowly looked up. A black-and-grey-colored Iron Man suit had appeared nearby.

This suit was... strange. Its frame was a full size larger than Tony's original. Besides the repulsor cannons, the suit's hands and shoulders were loaded with weapons, and it even had a multi-barrel rotary cannon on its back.

The suit's faceplate retracted, revealing a familiar face.

Seeing that face, Jason's was full of contempt. He said, "Heh. Well, if it isn't Air Force Colonel James Rhodes. It's been a long time since we last saw each other in LA."

The incident half a year ago was a scar Rhodey would never forget, and his deepest fear. It had caused him countless sleepless nights and mental anguish. He'd only managed to walk out of that shadow after temporarily leaving the military and undergoing three months of psychological counseling.

Looking at Jason, Rhodey's brow furrowed, his jaw clenching unconsciously. "It has been a long time. You haven't changed a bit, still the same asshole. But I'm different now."

"Heh, you're different just because you're wearing an Iron Man suit?" Jason pointed at Tony. "See him? That's your future, right there."

Rhodey said. "I watched your fight just now. I learned a few things. As long as I keep my distance and don't let you get close, you can't kill me."

Jason said, "If that's the case, you can't kill me either."

Rhodey nodded. "I know. That's why I'm not here to fight you. Now! Run!"

With that, Rhodey snapped his faceplate shut and dived off the cliff.

Tony immediately grabbed Pepper, took two long strides, and leaped off the cliff as well.

"AHHHH!!!"

The intense feeling of weightlessness made Pepper scream.

Rhodey flew up to them, securely catching one in each arm.

Tony let out a breath of relief. "Rhodey, thanks!"

Rhodey smiled and shook his head. "Don't mention it."

Looking at the suit, Tony couldn't help but complain, "Loaded with weapons all over? What kind of idiot designed this?"

Rhodey replied, "Tony, you're just jealous."

The repulsors in his boots blasted, and the three of them flew into the air, looking down on Jason.

Tony spoke, "Jason, you win this round. Next time, it won't be this easy."

Jason looked up at them. "Don't go! The live broadcast isn't over. How can the host just sign off?"

The three looked at each other, wondering what trick Jason was about to pull.

Rhodey's "War Machine" suit had been modified for high-speed aerial movement. If they wanted to run, Jason couldn't possibly catch them.

Jason smiled and, opening his mouth, said, "Franklin! Do it!"
