Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Danzo’s Treachery and the Curse Seal Trap

The contents of the document weren't as extensive as Naraku expected, so he read through it quickly.

"The content here is incomplete…" Naraku frowned.

Much of it focused on the Third Hokage. However, the problem was that the information Danzo provided wasn't comprehensive enough!

If he wanted to use this to deal with Hiruzen, it would still be difficult.

"Mr. Danzo said that if you want the rest of the information, you must come to the reception," the local shinobi responded stubbornly.

He hadn't read the document himself and was only repeating Danzo's instructions word for word.

"Really? Well then, I'll go see your master," Naraku said indifferently.

Soon, Naraku was led by the shinobi to a deserted clearing on the outskirts of Konoha.

"Hyuga Naraku, you really came," Danzo said as he slowly opened his previously closed eyes.

"Of course. Your goal is to force Hiruzen to resign. In this matter, we can indeed cooperate."

"Cooperate?" Naraku smirked with clear contempt.

"You already explained your intentions when you came to the reception," Danzo said, handing over a stack of documents. "If you didn't want the remaining information, you wouldn't be here."

These documents had been gathered over many years—confidential files about the Third Hokage.

If revealed, the carefully crafted image of a benevolent old man that Hiruzen had maintained for decades would shatter instantly!

"You came here because you want all this information—to use it to force Hiruzen to resign, right?" Danzo looked Naraku straight in the eyes. "With the intel I have and the support of the Hyuga Clan, we will succeed!"

"When I become the Fifth Hokage, I will ensure the Hyuga Clan is treated with honor."

"Don't forget—didn't the Cloud Village demand we hand you over?"

"If I become Hokage, I'll declare war on them immediately and bring justice to the Hyuga Clan!" Danzo's tone was righteous and full of conviction, as if there were no doubt he'd do exactly that.

However, Naraku was unmoved by the performance and asked flatly:

"If you had all this evidence, why didn't you overthrow Hiruzen already? Don't you want to be Hokage?"

Danzo's expression darkened.

Why indeed?

Because he lacked support.

Even if Hiruzen were to die, there was no guarantee Danzo would become Hokage. Perhaps Jiraiya or Tsunade would temporarily take over instead!

Because in truth—he wasn't liked by the majority of shinobi in the village.

"I need the support of the Hyuga Clan," Danzo finally admitted.

Naraku nodded thoughtfully. There was some truth in his words—but also many lies. He wasn't foolish enough to fully trust Danzo.

"So, what's your sincerity?"

"This is it." Danzo raised the remaining documents in his hand.

"If you agree to work with me, I'll give these to you right now."

"Is that so?" Naraku looked at him skeptically, then nodded. "Fine."

Danzo smirked faintly and extended the documents toward Naraku.

There was no one around. Naraku took them immediately.

The moment his hand touched the files, he felt a strange sensation.

Something was wrong.

He flipped through the contents quickly—sure enough, they were real. Very damaging to the Third Hokage's reputation.

But then…

A sinister pattern etched in dark ink with a faint red glow suddenly activated on the back of the final page.

Curse Seal of Death

This cursed seal had been inscribed on the back of the documents. When activated, the seal would spread through the recipient's body, paralyzing them completely!

Danzo had once used this same technique on Sasuke in the original timeline—but Sasuke had broken free using Susanoo.

"Hyuga Naraku, die!" Danzo, who had moments ago spoken of cooperation, charged forward with no hesitation!

Naraku, completely unfazed, allowed his chakra to surge through every tenketsu in his body.

Boom!

The cursed seal was forcefully expelled and dissolved instantly. Naraku raised his hand and grabbed Danzo by the neck mid-charge.

"H-How... how is this possible!" Danzo gasped, his breathing labored.

"You thought this would work?" Naraku's eyes were cold and emotionless.

He already knew Danzo would try something.

Without another word, he crushed Danzo's neck and let his body drop lifelessly to the ground.

Then, turning calmly, he resumed reading the documents as if nothing had happened.

Suddenly—whoosh!

A sudden gust of wind rushed toward him.

"I'll take your eyes!" Danzo, who had supposedly just died, reappeared and lunged straight for Naraku's Byakugan.

Naraku easily caught Danzo's arm mid-swipe and said without surprise, "Izanagi? Too bad it failed."
