Chapter 48 - Chapter 48 – The Ashes of Ambition

Naraku stepped out of the swarm of insects, unharmed.Rema faced him directly and launched his final strike.

But he didn't move to dodge.

He had already accepted his death.

That jutsu… it was his strongest. His last hope. Crafted specifically to kill Naraku. And even that had failed to break through.

There was nothing left for him to try.

[Victory: Root Ninja – Aburame Rema | Chakra +150]

Naraku watched coldly as Rema collapsed to the ground, exhaling his final breath.

"Even with 150 chakra points… he couldn't even scratch me."

He shook his head in disdain.

"The Aburame clan is truly worthless if this is their best."

Across the battlefield, most of the Root ninjas had already been defeated.Ferocious tigers, coiling pythons, and sharp-quilled beasts—manifestations of Naraku's Yin-Yang Release—bound them, rendering them helpless.

Only a few elite jonin-level operatives were still struggling, but they were nearing their limits.

These creatures were not simple summons. They were the living ink of Naraku's Yin-Yang mastery—conjured directly from his understanding of chakra creation.

Against them, Root's trained killers were nothing.

"It's time to end this farce."

Naraku calmly formed a hand seal, his voice like death itself:

"Fire Release: Field of the Extinguishing Curtain."

A roaring sea of flames surged across the battlefield, engulfing everything.

In seconds, the entire Root force was turned to ash.

[Victory: Root Ninja – Chakra +20][Victory: Root Ninja – Chakra +35][Victory: Root Ninja – Chakra +20]...

Without hesitation, Naraku allocated all the chakra points to his primary stat.

[Chakra Attribute: 9750 / 10000]

Less than twenty shinobi… and they gave him nearly 450 points.

For comparison—Shinnosuke's force of over a hundred had only given scraps.

They were weeds—easy to tear up.

Sarutobi, Mitokado, and Koharu… so-called elders, yet they'd never stepped onto a true battlefield. Their chakra was barely worth collecting.

The last 600 points? Those had come from the ninja clans of Corny and Shimura.

Danzo's personal soldiers.

Naraku smirked.

Danzo's clan—Shimura—wasn't just a political family. They were real shinobi.Trained in blood. Tempered in war. Unlike the others.

They were different. Dangerous.

But not enough.

Shisui and Itachi had once encountered them.Even Shisui had admitted the Shimura Root ninja were tougher than most.

But now?

All of them… dead.

Naraku stepped forward through the flames, his shadow long and terrifying.

"Danzo. You're the only one left."

"You… you bastard!" Danzo's voice trembled with rage. His face twisted, pale and furious.

"Do you know how long it took to build this army!?" he spat. "Do you know what I sacrificed!?"

"You should have given me your eyes! You should've just died like a dog!"

"Wind Release: Vacuum Great Sphere!"

With a roar, Danzo launched compressed spheres of wind—deadly and fast.

Naraku sidestepped each one effortlessly.

"Still blaming others for your failure?" he asked coldly.

"You think the Hokage position was yours by right? That the world should bow just because you're Shimura Danzo?"

Naraku drew his Susanoo sword—black steel gleaming—and slashed toward Danzo's right arm.

Danzo's eyes widened in panic.

"Wood Release: Prosperous Burial!"

In an instant, his right arm transformed into a massive tree.

Branches exploded outward, violently trapping both him and Naraku in a wooden prison.

Ten seconds later.

A figure emerged from the forest in a distant direction.

Danzo.

Glaring at the burning battlefield, he muttered,"Burned by the power of the First Hokage… that freak can't survive that."

He looked toward the tree, still growing and pulsing with chakra.

"I'll take care of your eyes, Naraku. I'll find good use for them. They'll help me become Hokage."

Danzo's Sharingan eye dimmed and locked—one had been sacrificed.

Izanagi.

The forbidden technique allowed him to rewrite reality for just a moment—at the cost of a Sharingan.

Only one eye remained now.

But it was fine. He had backups.

Four Sharingan—collected slowly, secretly. He had even sent Uchiha operatives on missions just to steal their eyes afterward.

His right arm—infused with First Hokage cells—had come from a deal with Orochimaru.

In exchange for samples of Hashirama's DNA, Orochimaru created a limb that could bear multiple Sharingan.

The process was rough… unstable. But it worked. And soon, with another version of the arm, he could hold ten Sharingan.

He grinned at the thought.

BOOM!

The giant tree suddenly exploded from within.

A hole split open, and out walked Naraku—unburned, untouched.

His eyes were cold.

"Only one Sharingan left, Danzo."

Danzo's face twisted in horror.

Why!?

He used Wood Release… power of the First Hokage!

He used Izanagi!

And still…

Still—he couldn't kill this man!

His obsession deepened.The Byakugan… those eyes…

They must be mine.
