After Dumbledore finished speaking, he gave his wand a wave. A flash of magic shimmered in the air before he pointed toward an old cabinet in the corner of the room. Under the effect of the spell, the cabinet slowly creaked open, and the tightly bound Peter Pettigrew was shoved inside.
"This cabinet was left here by a headmaster several generations ago," Dumbledore explained. "It used to punish particularly mischievous students. Once you're locked inside, there's absolutely no way to escape."
His assurance eased everyone's nerves. With Dumbledore's magic at work, there was no possibility that Peter Pettigrew could get out.
"I'll contact Fudge immediately to explain the situation. But as you all know… the Ministry of Magic's efficiency…"
The Ministry's bureaucratic sluggishness was infamous, and even Dumbledore couldn't change that.
"What about Sirius?" Lupin asked with concern. "He can't possibly stay in your office the entire time." He knew his friend couldn't just hide here forever—someone would notice, and unnecessary trouble would follow.
Lupin wanted somewhere safer where Sirius could lie low until everything was properly arranged.
Dumbledore's gaze drifted across the group before settling on Wes. A faintly meaningful glint flashed in his eyes. "I have an idea."
Wes' brows knit slightly, and a wave of unease welled up in him.
What's this old man plotting now…?
---
Not long after, the two men, one cat, and one dog left the headmaster's office.
"What is this supposed to be? Why not just say you've adopted a pet?" Wes was far from pleased with the plan, but for now, there was no better choice.
Lupin answered matter-of-factly, "Everyone knows I'm broke. How could I possibly afford to feed such a large dog?" His expression was serious, but there was a hint of light teasing in his tone.
He patted the head of the large black dog that was Sirius and chuckled. "Blacky, you'd better stay close to your owner."
The dog—Sirius—clearly didn't approve of the name. He shoved Lupin's hand away with his snout and snorted in protest, showing just how much he disliked the ridiculously tacky nickname.
"Haha~" Lupin laughed and waved them off. "I've got a class to teach, so I'll leave you to it." With that, he turned and walked away, leaving Wes and the transformed dog in an awkward silence.
They stared at each other for a moment before Wes sighed. "Well, I suppose this is the price I pay for coveting the Black family's knowledge and resources."
He led "Blacky" and Crookshanks down the corridors of Hogwarts, the odd trio drawing curious looks from students they passed.
That was when Hermione came running toward them, slightly out of breath and clearly flustered. "Crookshanks!" she called. "Where have you been? I've been looking for you everywhere!"
Crookshanks leapt straight into her arms, nearly knocking her off balance. The plump ginger cat rubbed against her, meowing softly as though apologizing—or perhaps begging for affection—making Hermione giggle.
Suddenly, Ron came storming toward them, his face full of fury. "Stupid cat! What did you do to Scabbers?!"
Crookshanks seemed to understand, lifting his head proudly and giving Ron an utterly dismissive look.
That only made Ron angrier. His face turned beet-red as he sputtered.
Hermione, unwilling to argue, simply turned away with Crookshanks in her arms.
Ron wasn't about to let it go. He followed after her, hurling accusations at Crookshanks and demanding the return of Scabbers.
The scene drew laughter from nearby students, while Wes and Sirius were ignored entirely, reduced to background scenery.
Wes shrugged. "Well, your good friend just went home," he remarked, nodding in the direction where Crookshanks and Hermione had disappeared.
Sirius shot him an exaggerated eye-roll.
"Professor! Professor Elwin!" Harry Potter came running up, out of breath. "Have you seen Hermione and Ron? I—"
Before Harry could finish, a huge black dog pounced on him, rubbing its head eagerly against him.
When Harry realized it was a massive black dog, he scrambled backward in fright.
Seeing Harry's reaction, Sirius whimpered pitifully, hurt at being misunderstood.
Wes quickly stepped forward and helped Harry up. "You afraid of dogs?"
Harry shook his head but still kept his distance.
"Professor Trelawney made a prophecy in Divination class," Harry explained, "She said a black dog would bring me misfortune… even death."
At this, Sirius barked twice in indignation, clearly offended by Trelawney's words and perhaps tempted to give her a nip.
"Trelawney?"
Wes nodded. He knew she had the bloodline of a true Seer, but most of her predictions were regarded as nonsense. "Don't mind her," Wes reassured Harry. "Blacky's very well-behaved."
"Blacky?"
"This black dog." Wes gave Sirius's head a gentle pat.
Sirius circled Harry, tail wagging like a propeller, hoping for some attention.
Cautiously, Harry reached out and stroked his head. Feeling Harry's touch, Sirius grinned wide, showing a row of white teeth.
Harry began to relax, even pulling a treat from his pocket to feed him.
"Oh no—I still have to find Hermione and Ron! They might be fighting…"
Wes pointed in the direction they'd gone. Harry thanked him and hurried off, leaving Sirius staring after him longingly.
"Don't worry," Wes said quietly. "There's plenty of time."
—
In less than a day, the news that Wes Elwin had adopted a large black dog spread like wildfire through Hogwarts.
Students whispered about it constantly. After all, in their eyes, Professor Elwin wasn't exactly the nurturing type—his image was one of strictness and scholarly focus.
Still, it was just a dog. In a place filled with magic and wonders, it wasn't exactly a shocking sight, and most didn't pry too deeply.
The students quickly grew used to the new arrival, though they still occasionally speculated about the dog's origins and its connection to Professor Elwin.
Curiously, "Blacky" didn't seem very close to Wes, keeping a kind of aloof distance.
Instead, he was particularly attached to Harry Potter—always wagging his tail happily and sticking to him like glue, as if Harry were his entire world.
Even during class, Blacky would wait quietly outside the room until Harry emerged.
At first, Harry was unsettled by the constant presence of such a large animal, but he soon realized the dog was incredibly smart and seemed to understand everything he said.
