"Then Heidi came."
The change in the room is immediate. Every head tilts toward Ginny and all ears perk up.
"She wasn't like us," Ginny continues. "She didn't try hard to get their attention. She didn't even try to flirt with them. She… she didn't chase them." Her mouth twists bitterly. "She barely even looked at them."
Heidi's wolf lifts her head. "Ugh, she's wrong there. You look at them at every chance, don't you?"
Shut up! Heidi, embarrassed, rolls her eyes internally.
Ginny swallows. "And yet, they noticed her." Her eyes flick just for a second toward Amias, Darien, Morgan, and Grayson.
"Even when they were angry at her. Even when they were punishing her, they still saw her." Ginny's voice drops. "And they never saw us."
Something in her finally gives out.
"We couldn't take it," she admits, tears spilling freely down her cheeks now. "We were jealous. So jealous it made us stupid and shameless."
Mrs. Castell shifts sharply in her seat. "This is nonsense!"
