Chapter 50 - Chapter 50

The door creaked open. "Come on out of there you two. We have a double feature today!" A guard yelled out. They had switched out the guards for Arena guards after Rico kept breaking the Russian mobsters hands. It had probably gotten too costly.

Rico stepped out first and into a large cage on wheels. Waylon stepped in behind him with a grunt. "Look, the monster is being obedient." Another of the guards pointed out. As soon as he finished speaking his head was slamming into the bars of the cage and Rico's hand was retreating back into the cage while the guard stepped back for a moment before falling backwards with a trail of blood coming out from under his helmet.

One of the guards sighed, "take him to the breakroom. Get these two to the monster cage release." The guard ordered and they were pushed through the room until they arrived at a set of bars that opened upwards. It swung closed once the cage was inside and the guards had stepped out.

The cage's electronic lock beeped and the cage swung open. Rico immediately began looking around because there was a weapons rack on one side with an armor rack on the other side. "Looks like they want us to use weapons. What do you think we are fighting?" Rico asked as he pulled a sledge hammer off the rack.

Waylon grunted as he grabbed a sword. "Humans probably. That is usually what they have me fight. They consider me an exotic animal not a person. So they have challenges to 'slay the beast'." Waylon pointed out as he moved to the giant metal doors.

Rico moved over next to him. They were both smelling absolutely awful. He was still stuck in his slightly torn up and worn prison jumpsuit. The one he had gotten on his first day of prison. Waylon was only in a pair of jeans that were almost completely destroyed.

The door screeched open in front of them and Rico raised an eyebrow at what they saw. It was an entire wooden structure that seemed to have been hastily put together. It was mostly covering the center of the arena.

"This is new." Waylon grunted out as they stepped out.

"WELCOME FIGHTERS TO THE HUNTERS ARENA!" The announcer's voice was loud and jarring as it echoed through the enclosed cave. "Today we will have a blood bath where one of the twelve teams will survive. First into the ring is Team Monster! Donated to us by the Russians they have given the specific order to give the monsters the most dangerous task with the least amount of equipment. So it is every other team's task to kill Team Monster in order to win. While Team Monster has to kill all other teams to win. The team that brings back one of, or both of their heads to their entrance door will win!"

"Shit." Rico cursed and exchanged a look with Waylon before they quickly began running into the wooden structure. "We are going to have to be careful, we know they do not have guns. But we do not know what they are going to have." Rico pointed out as he ran up a set of stairs. As the structure creaked.

"This sword has been blunted." Waylon growled as he followed him up the stairs into the structure. Rico quickly looked over his sledgehammer and realized there was a clear deep crack in the handle. This thing would break apart on the first strike.

"Yeah… this sledgehammer is broken. It looked fine in the dimly lit thing but now it is clear as day that this will not last beyond a single strike." Rico looked around at the structure and nodded to himself. "Then we use the structure itself as a weapon." He pulled apart the sledgehammer, he now had two weapons he could use.

"We should split up to spread chaos. They will come in with confidence and numbers." Waylon pointed out with a grunt as he moved to a different area and went down the stairs.

"Sounds good!" Rico answered as he moved to a position with a view of the cell doors that were no doubt about to open.

"You gotta be fuckin' kindin' me." Detective Bullock cursed as he pulled out a cigar and a match book. "We have that scum on camera killing the guy and you are sure we have the wrong guy?" Bullock asked.

Gordon and Montoya were equally as confused when Robin spoke up and told them. "What is this about?" Montoya asked.

"It is about the arson case. I lack any proof but the cautious and planned out demeanor is reminiscent of Ricardo Bell. He happened to also be the one that planned the placing of the bombs at all of Joker's hideouts and the destruction of the Sionis building." Batman declared, "I am sure your techs have figured out there were multiple triggers for those bombs already."

"Yeah… shit. Do you have anything to tie him to it?" Gordon asked with a click of his tongue.

"No, just an identification from Red Hood that he pushed Ricardo into mercenary work." Batman answered with a grunt. "Apparently he took to the work like a fish to water. As it stands a few of my people have broken limbs and bruised egos because of him."

"He managed to get the better of a few members of The Batfamily? How did he do that?" Montoya asked with a chuckle.

"Because he is a meta," Gordon grunted out. He then seemed lost in thought for a moment. "Bell? That name is familiar."

"I was thinking the same." Batman growled out. "So I did some digging-"

"Hold up! Are you saying we sent him to prison for a crime he did not commit and ended up dead?" Montoya asked, interrupting Batman. Something was bothering her but she had refrained from looking into it because Ricardo had been uncooperative.

"No," Robin spoke up. "He is somehow alive. He has been in contact with his people since he went to prison and even after his supposed death." Robin grunted out. "But we still have to figure out who killed that information broker."

"Information broker?" Montoya blinked in surprise.
