Chapter 56 - Chapter 56

Rico relaxed on the couch hanging his head in boredom. "You don't think she will let us leave because it is boring here, do you?" He asked as he glanced over at Waylon.

"I doubt it. But I do not mind even if I am stuck with one of these." Waylon flicked the collar that was around his neck. "This has been the best treatment I have gotten in years. Although I suppose we could ask for something to do when she is not here."

Rico chuckled at that. He had been texting his group when he got the opportunity. But he had to be careful because there was a camera in the corner of the room. Apparently the young Russian woman also enjoyed recording their activities. But because of that camera he had to be extra careful. But it was looking like Batman and the GCPD know about the Gotham Underground now. So it was only a matter of time.

The shadow flickered as a form moved through it. It quietly dropped onto the ground and moved toward the computer that was still switched off. A hand pushed in the USB and then the shadow moved away from the computer. Hiding just out of sight as the USB device began downloading everything in the computer.

There was a bright light filling the room along with a humming noise that filled the building's walls. "Haa…" Barbara sighed as she rolled into the room in her wheelchair. The small library with memorabilia was comforting to her. She moved to the computer and typed on the keyboard.

The screens lit up in response. Then the nearby wall spun around. Revealing the casing with her old outfit along with an empty casing. A clear indicator that Cassandra was out on patrol already. "Oracle. Can I drop by? I am investigating something and need to compare notes." Batwoman, Katherine Kane, requested through a channel that Oracle had open for requests like this.

"Sure, I was just getting my night started." Barbara answered as she rolled away from the computer to where an electric teapot was. She flicked a switch and then rolled back over. The tea water was heating itself up. "Batgirl, it looks like there was a silent alarm tripping two buildings over from where you are at."

There was a grunt in response.

"Oracle, I need the Blackgate security codes." An older, more grizzled voice spoke up. That would be Batman, or Bruce Wayne. "I also need a location on Robin. He snuck off again and ditched the normal trackers I planted on his outfit."

"He is fine," Oracle told him with a sigh. "Red Hood is assisting him with the investigation you gave him. He just does not want you watching over his every move." Barbara told him with a roll of her eyes. "Let them work, they will be fine without you." There was a moment of silence as Oracle typed on her keyboard. "Blackgate does not have any of their security codes or records on digital files. I suggest an alternative way to enter… where are you trying to go?"

"The prison morgue." Batman answered with a grunt.

"That is a bit difficult. That deep underground and out of the way. I would suggest going through the visitors section and then going through the low security block. That would take you there." Oracle informed him just as she could hear a whistling behind her coming from the electric tea kettle.

She spun her chair around and rolled over to it. Pulling a mug down along with a tea bag. As she was doing that the shadowy form moved to the computer and pulled out the USB that was stuck in the side of the computer. But as soon as it did that there was a loud blaring alarm followed by metal shutters closing and the lights flashing red.

Barbara spun around quickly, not bothering to complete her tea and moved toward the computer but stopped herself when she saw the shadowy figure just as they put the USB drive in a hidden pocket. Barabara pulled out a short metal extendable baton and extended it. Then a voice came from her computer, "Oracle are you okay? The watchtower just went into lockdown as soon as I arrived." Batwoman voiced over the open channel. Which prompted more responses that she never got to hear because a moment later the shadowy figure threw something at the computer and a pulse of electricity fried the systems.

Then something hit the baton out of Barbara's hand and a few more hit the base of her wheelchair. Then the figure slipped out of sight. Moving toward one of the exits. Barbara grunted in annoyance and tried to move her chair. But it did not move. She looked down and saw that the figure had thrown some shurikan strategically so she was stuck in place. "Damnit!" She cursed loudly.

She looked around for a moment and realized she had a backup communication device. But it was a few feet out of reach. She sighed before throwing herself out of her wheelchair and crawling to the shelf. She pulled out the device and then turned it on just as the lights stopped blinking red and she could hear the metal shutters opening up.

"Batwoman, there is an intruder in the tower. She stole something from my computer systems. She is probably going to try and escape!" She called out as she leaned against the shelf. But a few minutes later she watched as Batwoman came in through the skylight entrance.

She walked over and helped her up and back into her wheelchair. "Sorry, by the time I started looking it seemed they had already successfully escaped. This one is on me." She apologized as she pulled the shurikans out of the floor so Barbara's chair was not stuck in the floor.

She then began looking over them while Barbara rolled up to her computer and started tapping a few buttons. Then she pulled off the mysterious device. "Damn, they fried my computer. I need to get replacement parts before I am even able to tell you what they stole."

"Okay… that is bad." Batwoman sighed in annoyance. "But what is even worse are these." She handed over one of the shurikan. "I do not know about you but it looks like a league of assassins piece of gear."

"Hmm… it is similar but it is also different." Barbara grunted as she looked over it.

"Then it is the League of Shadows." They turned to see a mud and muck covered pair that had snuck in despite being covered in sewage and mud. One of them was Robin and he was holding a jar of moving mud. The other was Red Hood, his outfit had completely changed since she last saw him. It was far more gothic in design.

"Aren't they the same thing?" Barbara asked.

"Nope they are a separate offshoot. Before I left there were rumors that there was a movement to pull control from my grandfather by the league splitting in half. The other half were the shadows. But it looks like they are deeply involved with the city at the moment." He held up the jar. "They were using some type of controllable version of clayface to do their bidding. While Clayface is still locked up in Arkham."

"Hmm…" Barbara went deep into thought for a moment. "I have an idea. But I need some information to confirm what I am thinking. But I think it is time we went and asked someone… unorthodox for help."
