Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: A Tacit Understanding

"Izumi..." Inoshita Rino stared blankly at his old friend, muttering in disbelief. "You were... that determined!"

The next moment, the ground trembled slightly. Izumi, engulfed in the light of the exploding tags and about to be consumed by the blast, felt as if he were being wrapped in something warm and moist. The burning pain from the ignited tags slowly subsided.

"Huh? Where did that guy go?" The black-robed Jonin in the distance frowned. The massive explosion he had expected never came. "What the hell is going on?" A strange, uncontrollable feeling filled his heart. What had happened when he used the Body Flicker Technique just now?

But he quickly turned his attention back to the barely-breathing Inoshita Rino. With a cold snort, he charged forward again with his scythe. "Then I'll finish you off first, you old fossil!"

"Earth Style: Earth Spear!" Inoshita Rino unleashed the jutsu he had prepared. Swish, swish, swish! A series of sharp earth spikes shot up from the ground along the Jonin's path, but they only served to slow him down.

"Don't embarrass yourself with a jutsu of this level!" the Jonin roared, and with a few quick twists and turns, he was rapidly closing in on him.

Just then, countless glinting iron spines suddenly shot out from his left, covering an area of five or six square meters, right where he was about to land. He predicted my movements!

"Can't dodge!" With that thought, the Jonin's eyes narrowed. He gripped the crimson scythe in his right hand and began to spin it rapidly by his left side. The next moment, the scythe became a solid, impenetrable pinwheel. Clang, clang, clang... The continuous sound of metal clashing rang in his ears, but the force was not even enough to significantly drain his stamina.

Clang! The last silver spine was deflected, and he stopped spinning his scythe. A sinister smile appeared on his lips as he looked in the direction the spines had come from, only to see an empty clearing. "Interesting!"

A cold glint flashed in his eyes, and a sense of shame from being toyed with filled his heart, his face darkening. He then turned sharply to look at the staggering Inoshita Rino, a murderous intent in his eyes. Swoosh! The next moment, his figure vanished.

At the same time, a warning bell went off in Inoshita Rino's mind. An unprecedented sense of crisis made the hair on his body stand on end. He frantically scanned his surroundings. "Where is he?" Cold sweat dripped from his forehead. Under this life-or-death pressure, his mind was stretched to its limit, yet he still couldn't find a trace of the black-robed Jonin.

"Where are you looking?" A sinister voice came from behind him, making him freeze. Swish! He quickly slashed behind him with his kunai, but only cut through the air. The next moment, he was sent flying.

The black-robed Jonin's figure appeared where he had just been standing, his leg still raised from the kick. "It's over, old geezer!" he sneered, and with a flick of his right hand, a spinning shuriken shot through the air towards the just-landed Inoshita Rino. It was almost upon him in an instant!

Swish! An earth wall suddenly rose from the ground in front of him, blocking the shuriken at the last second.

"Who is it!" the Jonin roared, his face flushed with shame and anger. The old man had just landed; it was impossible for him to have formed hand seals to cast a jutsu. So who had created that wall? Having his fatal blows thwarted one after another, he was now furious.

But he didn't notice that a square-shaped earth prison had suddenly formed around his feet, and the next moment, it had completely enclosed him. His eyes widened, and he immediately looked up. Thump! The opening above him was instantly covered.

Earth Style: Earth Prison Jutsu!

Through the thick gaps in the prison, the Jonin looked at the panting Inoshita Rino on the ground. Shaking his head, the frustration was almost driving him mad, but he gritted his teeth and held it in. This was the first time he had been pushed this far by a few Chunin.

Taking a deep breath, his face gradually calmed. "I have to say, you used that jutsu very well. It must be your trump card, right?" he said, looking at him. "You timed its release perfectly, and you minimized its disturbance with your fine chakra control. But... what's the use?"

"Hah... hah..." Inoshita Rino was still gasping for breath, unable to speak. "I'm choosing to believe in you, Mo. You won't let me down, right?" he thought.

The next second, a piercing eagle cry echoed through the sky. The Jonin and Inoshita Rino both turned their heads, one with a look of pleasant surprise, the other with a look of horror.

A spinning storm, the size of half a house, fell from the sky. The surrounding air was pulled into its rotation, forming a tornado several meters in diameter.

Explosive Rasengan!

BOOM! A world-shaking explosion rocked the entire area. Even Watanabe Mousse and the other Jashinist Jonin, hundreds of meters away, couldn't help but look in the direction of the blast. Both of their expressions changed slightly. The next moment, seeing the familiar wind-attribute chakra spreading out, Watanabe seemed to have realized something, a hint of joy in his eyes. "It's that kid's summoning beast!"

In his impression, among Shangguan Mo's summons, the only one whose strength he acknowledged, and even felt a sense of danger from, was the Windhawk. But after several cooperative battles, he had discovered that although the Windhawk could use wind-attribute chakra, its efficiency was very low. He didn't know why, but it often had a long casting time when using its ninjutsu. This gave the enemy plenty of time to prepare. But since he had used it now, it meant the battle over there had reached a critical point. And with the power of the Windhawk's jutsu, he believed it would be difficult for any ninja to survive its terrifying power. Even he wasn't confident he could face the countless, violent, and fine wind blades head-on.

Swish, swish, swish!

The Windhawk beneath him was still frantically spitting wind blades at the center of the dusty explosion. Compared to the Explosive Rasengan, which had a casting time of seven or eight seconds, this Wind Blade Technique was much weaker and faster to cast. But it was cheap and reliable.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

After a full half-minute, Shangguan Mo, sitting on its bucket-sized head, finally couldn't watch anymore and patted its head. "Alright, alright! Even an iron man would be turned to ash by now! Don't you shake that old man Inoshita Rino into an idiot..." He looked towards the edge of the dust cloud but didn't see the old man's figure.

Inoshita Rino, who was only fifty meters from the center of the explosion, was now completely covered in dust. His face was pale and green, and he looked as if he were about to vomit. His head was buzzing.
