Chapter 81: To Start Anew
"Some things stay with you, no matter how much time passes. That was my first romantic date as a married woman," Lillian pointed out.
Leo leaned back in his chair, watching her closely. "And do you like it or do you regret remembering?"
The question hung in the air between them, light as mist but bittersweet.
Lillian looked away, her gaze drawn to trees fluttering in the wind outside.
Three years ago, she would have easily said it was a good memory. But now, after the absence, the distance, and now the danger, she wasn't sure how she should feel about it.
"I don't know," she admitted at last. "It was good back then if I just took the surface experience. But now, it's complicated."
Leo gave a small nod, accepting her words without pressing further.
There was a steadiness in him now that hadn't existed before , a calmness forged by pain, perhaps, or by guilt.
Lillian couldn't decide which it was.
