Chapter 16 - The First Clue

Annabell woke up earlier than usual. The soft morning light poured through the tall windows of the guest room Mr. Michael had assigned her. It felt surreal—less than 48 hours ago, she was dancing in a club with Mia. Now, she was in a billionaire's mansion, working undercover to help save his company.

She pulled on a simple blouse and trousers, tying her hair back before heading downstairs. The house was quiet except for the sound of distant footsteps and the hum of the espresso machine.

Michael was already in the living room, reading over documents. He glanced up as she entered.

"You're early," he noted, almost impressed.

"I thought I'd start reviewing the files you gave me," she replied.

Michael handed her a sleek tablet. "I want you to look through these employee records and internal reports. Start with the last two quarters. Look for anything odd—expenses, missing inventory, late approvals."

Annabell nodded, taking a seat. She quickly got into the flow, analyzing charts and emails. About an hour in, something caught her eye—an unusually large purchase of tech equipment signed off by a department head who, according to the staff directory, had been on leave during that period.

"Michael," she said, turning the screen toward him. "Does this name ring a bell? Henry ?"

Michael frowned. "Yes. Head of Logistics. Why?"

"He supposedly approved a huge order while he was on vacation abroad."

Michael's expression hardened. "That… shouldn't be possible."

Annabell's pulse quickened. "Then someone forged his approval."

Michael leaned in. "You just found our first clue."

Their eyes met.

A moment passed, quiet but intense.

"Good work," he said, softly but firmly.

Annabell smiled to herself. This wasn't just a job. It was a mission—and maybe, just maybe, the start of something unexpected.
