Chapter 8 - Volume 1, Chapter 8 — Supreme Attribute of Darkness

Dmitry was stunned when he saw his attribute.

"Supreme quality… Only ten people in the entire world have it. Supreme quality… That means… David, tell me, do you have a title?"

"Yes."

"What is it?"

"Lord of Darkness."

"Hmph. Titles and qualities are always connected," Dmitry muttered. "If that's the case, then David's power must lie… in dominion over darkness."

"You're free to go. I've checked everything. The student performance ranking will be announced soon."

"Alright," David replied calmly, leaving the room and heading back to his quarters. When he entered, he looked around.

"So this is my room… Well, it's definitely better than the slums," he sighed. "In a month, on the night of the full moon, we'll be sent to the Trial of Fate. I need to prepare."

He began to think about what he might lack for surviving in the wild. Suddenly, he remembered—while walking around the academy earlier, he had noticed a sign:

"Survival Course."

With that in mind, he quickly made his way there. Upon arriving, he knocked on the door. A voice called out, "Come in."

Opening the door, David saw a tall man in his thirties with chestnut-brown hair.

"Welcome. My name is Bean. You can call me Mr. Bean. I teach the Survival Course."

"My name is David."

"Good. Take a seat."

"Let me tell you about the World of Fate. It is divided into three stages: the Prologue, the Trial of Fate, and finally… the Demon Realm."

"The Trial of Fate has one hundred levels. Only by clearing them all can one reach the Demon Realm."

"Ha, but unfortunately, we know almost nothing about that place. The strongest among us has only reached the 99th floor."

"Wait—if he's on the 99th floor, then there's just one left. Why can't he finish it?"

"Hmph. Think of it this way: the final floor is as difficult as conquering the previous ninety-nine put together. Do you understand now how insane that is?"

David was taken aback.

"I see," he murmured.

"Good. Let me teach you the art of survival. First of all, in the World of Fate, things are different."

"You won't be able to navigate by the stars. It's far more complicated than that."

With that, Mr. Bean began teaching David how to orient himself in the World of Fate.

Later, David left the classroom and made his way to the cafeteria. Grabbing some food, he sat down beside a girl with a blindfold over her eyes and silently began to eat.

Suddenly, a giant screen lit up, displaying the rankings of the academy's strongest students. David glanced at it and noticed the girl's name.

"So her name is Emma… But why is she sitting next to me?"

The screen then shifted, showing the attributes of the top students. Everyone froze in shock. Two of them had titles: one was the "Lord of Darkness," and the other… the "Child of the Stars."

Emma, from a distance, cast a glance at David and thought to herself:

"Lord of Darkness… So he has a supreme quality as well? I never imagined someone else could wield a power equal to mine."

The cafeteria buzzed with murmurs, all eyes on Emma and David. For the first time in history, two people with supreme qualities and titles had appeared at the same time.

Even the instructors had taken notice. Vincent, one of the academy's high-ranking officials, watched them with a mixture of curiosity and anticipation. If they both survived the Trial, he was already planning to send them to the Southeast Division.

When David finished his meal and rose to leave, several students tried to stop him, bombarding him with questions about what he had gone through to gain such strength.

Tired of the attention, David brushed them aside and walked out.
