Chapter 5 - The wounded traveler

I finally have food, but I need to get water now.

I don't remember seeing any rivers or streams nearby, so I'm going to need to look for a source of water.

2 days of constant walking later…

Shhhhh!

What is that sound?

It sounds like a waterfall.

It is a waterfall.

Awesome, now I have water.

Huh, what is that?

It's a person.

Wait, no, that person is missing an arm!

Do I help them or not?

Jack's thoughts: What kinda question is that, Jack? Help them!

Damn! All I have to stop the bleeding is my shirt.

Rip!

Well, here goes nothing.

"Arggg!"

Hold on, man, I'm just stopping the bleeding.

I'll take you back to my place soon, and I can help better there.

Days later, back at Jack's cabin…

Hold on a little longer. I'm going to set you on my kitchen table.

Ok, now what?

I need to find a way to patch up that wound.

Cauterizing it would seal it but kill the tissue.

Oh yeah, there is a spider in this forest with really strong silk.

I need to go find one and get its silk.

Minutes later…

Ok, there is one.

They are weak, but the silk they produce is strong.

Where is its web?

Huh? It's coming at me!

Squish!

Not anymore.

System Notification: You've obtained the skill Steel Silk by killing a Steel Spider.

Cool!

Now to find its web.

Oh, there it is. Got it!

I have a rat rib at home I can turn into a needle.

Time to go stitch that guy up.

Back at the cabin, Jack pulled what skin remained forward, not to close the wound, but to shield it. Leaving it bare would invite rot. Sealing it too tight would do worse…

I'll let you rest.

Here is some water and food. Eat it when you feel up to it and get better.

"W-what i-is your n-name?" the traveler asked.

Jack.

Get better and eat. We will talk later.

To be continued…
