For a heartbeat, Nerine thought the world had stopped. Kael's weight pressed her into the bed, his hand still firm at her waist where the teleport had left it, and his dark gaze hovered just above her lips. Every breath she took caught against his chest, the silence between them charged, fragile.

Kael's mouth curved faintly, not into his usual smirk but something quieter, unreadable. "You always find ways to end up in dangerous positions, Nerine," he murmured.

Her heart hammered in her chest. She swallowed, forcing words past her lips. "This—this wasn't my doing. You teleported us."

"And yet," Kael drawled, his voice lower now, almost teasing, "here you are beneath me."

Her face flushed, heat blooming all the way to her ears. She pushed at his chest, managing only to shift him slightly. "Get off."

Instead, Kael's smirk returned full force. He leaned closer, his hair brushing her cheek. "Perhaps I should not."
