Chapter 52 - SDOPM: Chapter 52

"Monster cells?! How did you get those?! What's your connection to that Genus fellow?!"

Mosquito Girl, initially calm, became agitated and wary upon hearing Kaito Ren mention monster cells.

"Hmm?!"

Kaito Ren raised an eyebrow, surprised and slightly confused. He knew Psykos had developed the monster cells; at this stage, they should be highly secretive, known to very few. How did Mosquito Girl know about them? And why did she immediately associate them with Genus?

Wait a minute!

Kaito Ren's eyes widened, a sudden realization dawning on him. Gouketsu had won the first martial arts tournament, and nineteen tournaments had been held since then.

This meant Gouketsu's monsterization had occurred at least fifteen years ago. Fifteen years ago, Psykos was still a child, a normal human, not yet involved in the Monster Association's creation. She couldn't have created the monster cells then.

Therefore, these monster cells…

Considering Mosquito Girl's intense reaction, Kaito Ren formed a daring hypothesis. Could Dr. Genus have created them?

He knew Genus appeared young but was actually over seventy, having spent decades researching unusual things, even creating the Monster House. Accidentally discovering monster cells wasn't outside the realm of possibility.

But if Genus created them, why did Psykos possess them?

Kaito Ren was deeply puzzled.

[You suspect a secret connection between the Evolution House and the Monster Association. What do you do?]

[1: Investigate immediately (Strength Enhancement Agent +30)]

[2: Ignore it (Constitution Enhancement Agent +20)]

[3: Observe secretly (Speed Enhancement Agent +30)]

"Three!"

Kaito Ren chose option three after careful consideration. Even if a secret existed between the Evolution House and the Monster Association, it wasn't something he, a relative weakling, could currently handle.

While the Evolution House might not be incredibly powerful, the Monster Association already included Gouketsu, Psykos, Monster King Orochi, and the shadowy mastermind Psykos.

These individuals were incredibly dangerous; any one of them could easily defeat him. It was best to proceed cautiously and focus on improving his strength before confronting them directly.

"You know about monster cells?"

Kaito Ren decided to start by questioning Mosquito Girl, hoping to gather useful information.

"Of course!"

Mosquito Girl gritted her teeth, clenching her fists, her eyes filled with resentment. Her current state was a direct result of the monster cells. If she hadn't been tricked by that Genus fellow into consuming one, she wouldn't be in this monstrous state.

"Can you tell me what happened?"

Kaito Ren asked tentatively, prepared to defend himself against a possible sudden attack.

Mosquito Girl took a deep breath, her gaze complex as she looked at Kaito Ren.

[Ding… Mosquito Girl's affection increased by 10, current affection: 60]

???

Kaito Ren was surprised. He'd only just met her, yet her affection was already at 60.

"A few days ago, I was a normal human. By chance, I met a man named Genus, who claimed to be a scientist, inviting me to visit his research facility.

I agreed without much thought. But once there, he forced me to consume a monster cell. When I woke up, I was like this…"

Mosquito Girl's voice was laced with bitterness and regret. If she'd known, she never would have agreed. She would still be living her life freely, not in this monstrous, half-human, half-insect form.

Hearing Mosquito Girl's account, Kaito Ren was taken aback. She'd been deceived by Genus. Considering Genus's personality, it was likely one of his clones who'd done this; the real Genus rarely left his lab.

"The monster cell I have is of higher quality than the one you consumed. It should allow for complete monsterization, and… there's a chance it might restore your human form."

Kaito Ren hesitated before offering his theory.

"Really?! You're not lying?!"

Mosquito Girl's eyes widened with excitement, looking at Kaito Ren expectantly.

"I can't guarantee it, but there's a possibility."

Psykos's method of maintaining both human and monster forms remained a mystery. But this was their best chance.

"Even a sliver of hope is worth trying! I'll risk my life for it!"

Wiping away her tears, Mosquito Girl took the high-quality monster cell from Kaito Ren and swallowed it.

The moment the cell entered her stomach, she cried out in pain.

Ah~!

Ah~!

The sound struck Kaito Ren as slightly unusual.

As time passed, after three minutes, her cries gradually subsided, replaced by heavy breathing.

"Tha… thank you…"

Just as Kaito Ren was about to check on her, a pair of delicate arms wrapped around his waist. A surprised, shy voice whispered in his ear.

"If it weren't for you, I wouldn't know what to do."

Feeling her warmth, Kaito Ren blushed, mentally reciting calming mantras to regain his composure.

Turning, he nearly lost his composure again. He hadn't noticed before, but Mosquito Girl's figure was comparable to Hellish Blizzard's, even approaching Psykos's. Combined with her gentle, submissive demeanor, it was almost too much to bear.

"Ahem, it's cold. You should put some clothes on."
