The Journal
Favour, unable to sleep, found herself digging through a dusty trunk her mother had once sent from Nigeria. Inside, she found her old NYSC journal.
She hadn't opened it in years.
On the last few pages, smeared in faded ink, she read an entry that chilled her:
"Met Uche again today. He asked me if I believed in consequences. I laughed. He didn't."
"He said some day, people like me people who always get rescued will pay in full."
She dropped the journal.
That face she saw in Boston… it wasn't Uche. It was Uche's younger brother, whom she'd met once on the last day of NYSC, right after the camp.
The same brother she had dismissed as irrelevant.
Esther… Nadine… and now him?
It was more than revenge. It was a web.
A coordinated takedown of her entire life.
