Chapter 1
"Max?!" Suz muttered in utter shock as she shot out of the bed, her chest jiggling as she hurriedly stood upright.
"Babe, I can explain. It's… it's not what you think," Suz quickly said, the duvet wrapped tightly around her body.
"Babe? You still call him babe? Won't you speak the truth now?" Jack asked, a light chuckle escaping his lips.
But Max wasn't even paying attention to Jack's words. All he wanted…no, needed was an explanation.
"So he was right, huh?" Max muttered. Then, unexpectedly, he chuckled. The sound started off low, then grew louder and louder, filling the room. It wasn't joy or amusement. It was hollow. Bitter. Broken.
The laughter stunned the duo.
Max laughed for a few more seconds before calming down. He stared at Suz, who stood frozen, unable to say or do anything.
"I just want to ask you one question… why? Why toy with me like this?" Max asked through gritted teeth, his fists clenched tightly at his sides.
"Max…" Suz whispered, guilt suddenly washing over her features.
"Max… right? Kek! You're really a loser if I must say," Jack scoffed, laughing as Max turned toward him with burning, tear-brimmed eyes.
"Jack, don't say anything, please," Suz pleaded, turning to face him, but Jack just shrugged her off.
"You thought she loved you? Did you really believe that a beautiful and sexy woman like this would fall for a loser like you? How delusional can one guy be?" Jack said with disgust, his eyes scanning Max from head to toe.
"Jack!" Suz shouted, trying to stop him from saying more.
"Let me speak, damn it!" Jack snapped back, anger flaring in his voice. He turned back to Max, his tone full of mockery. "You want the truth? She never loved you. Not for a second."
He paused, eyes narrowing.
"She was just using you to climb the ladder in the company. You know she was assigned as your supervisor, right? So what do you think the CEO would say when he sees how well she handled the job? Of course she'd get promoted. And you? You were the stepping stone."
Max stood there, trembling. His fists clenched so tightly that his nails dug deep into his palms, drawing blood. His eyes turned bloodshot, and his teeth ground together furiously. The air around him thickened with a dangerous silence.
"You were never worth her time, love, or affection," Jack continued, grinning wickedly. "The only person she's ever loved is me. You were just a tool."
He leaned slightly forward, eyes fixed on the vein pulsing violently at the side of Max's head.
"And too bad you never got to do what I did with her. Because, man… this girl is fire. From her moans, to the way she smells and tastes, her p—"
Jack didn't get to finish.
Max calmly dipped his hand into his pants pocket and pulled something out.
"Jack, right? Nice. I've heard of you. And thank God for the unknown caller—because of them, I came prepared," Max said coldly, holding up the object in his hand.
His face had hardened so much, it felt like a demon had entered the room. Suz's breath hitched as she stared at what was now pointed in Jack's direction.
'Where is the Max I know? Who is this? Wait… shit! A gun?!' Suz thought, horrified.
It was a gun. A sleek black pistol. And it was aimed directly at Jack's chest.
Surprisingly, Jack didn't flinch at all. He stood there, staring straight at Max with a blank expression.
"You're shocked?" Max asked, eyes blazing as he shifted his glare to Suz. "Suz, you caused this. I was so kind. So innocent. You could have let me stay that way, but instead, you decided to play with my heart like it was a game."
He took a step forward, gun still steady in his hand.
"I was warned. I was told to stay away. And even though I wanted to believe in you, I still prepared myself just in case… and look what happened."
He chuckled bitterly. His eyes, red from rage and heartbreak, burned with a fury that made Suz's knees tremble.
"Kek! Kek! Kek!" Jack chuckled repeatedly as he casually strode toward Max without a care in the world.
"Take one more step and I'll put a bullet in you. Don't test me," Max said as he shakily held the gun in his hands. Jack paused, stopping around two metres away.
"Oh yeah? You want to shoot? Fine. Do it. I want to see you try with your hands all sweaty and shaky," Jack said as he outstretched his arms wide, his rod still dangling in view, having no luxury of putting on clothes.
"Don't dare me," Max growled, his voice deep with rage as his finger clutched the trigger. His hands still trembled, but the intensity in his eyes had grown.
"I dare you. It's so obvious you haven't held a gun in your entire life, and you want to shoot me? Go ahead!" Jack taunted, smirking at Max's trembling hands.
"I will do it," Max said, gritting his teeth.
"Max, don't! Please stop! This isn't you!" Suz cried out with tears streaming down her face, her voice filled with desperation.
"Do it, Max! I dare you to!" Jack roared, his eyes glaring coldly at Max's uncertainty.
"Curse you!" Max snapped in fury and then—
POW!
BANG!
A gunshot rang through the room.
"Ahhh!" Suz screamed, covering her ears as her eyes clenched shut.
Slowly, she peeked through her fingers, only to see Jack still standing, completely fine. Max stood with his eyes shut, frozen.
"I was right," Jack said calmly. In the blink of an eye, he closed the distance and slapped the gun out of Max's hands. Max's eyes shot open just in time to see a bulky fist speeding toward him.
BAM!
Jack's punch landed hard on Max's face, sending him tumbling to the ground. Blood sprayed from his nose and mouth as his body crashed onto the floor.
"You wanted to kill me?" Jack growled, pouncing on Max. His foot slammed into Max's ribs, causing him to cough out blood. Max's eyes darted across the room, searching for the gun lying a few metres away.
"Do you even know who I am?" Jack snarled, slamming his foot into Max's side again. More blood spilled from Max's lips as he stretched a shaky hand toward the weapon.
'J... just a few more inches,' Max thought. 'Just a few more... I swear, I won't miss my target this time.'
But Jack noticed.
With a quick motion, he kicked the gun away. It skidded across the floor, landing by Suz's feet.
"You're a damn coward. A loser!" Jack bellowed as he grabbed Max by the collar and slammed him into the centre table. The objects on it clattered and crashed to the floor.
"What now? Without your little toy, you aren't man enough?" Jack sneered and swung his foot forward to kick Max again.
But this time, Max caught it.
TCWK!
Max spat out blood as he gripped Jack's leg and slowly rose to his feet, teeth clenched, fury burning in his gaze.
Then, without hesitation, Max surged forward and tackled Jack like a raging beast, slamming him into the ground.
In the blink of an eye, Max was on top of him.
And then his fists did the talking.
A punch to Jack's jaw. Another to his nose. Then one to his ribs. His stomach. His face again.
Wherever Max's fists landed, pain followed. Jack grunted and groaned, his face contorting in agony as the relentless flurry of blows continued.
Max's rage-fueled strength took over. There was no hesitation. No fear.
Just raw fury.
And vengeance.
"I will kill you, once I'm done, I will kill Suz too. You both betrayed me, I'm going to make you pay!" Max roared as he pummeled punch after punch into Jack's face causing it to begin bleeding.
"Max please stop, please it's enough!" Suz cried out as she walked forward trying to stop Max from punching Jack.
"Get away!" Max roared as he pushed her away causing her to tumble away, his eyes bloodshot. "Wait your damn turn!"
With that little distraction, that was all Jack needed as he landed a solid punch into Max's gut causing him to spit out blood.
"You shouldn't have messed with me." Jack spat as he prepared to land another punch when Max suddenly swung his head forward slamming it straight into Jack's nose.
Jack's eyes suddenly became moist as pain shot through his body immediately.
Suz who had been pushed, now stood upright as she watched helplessly while fidgeting.
'What do I do? What do I do now? If they are not stopped, they will kill each other. With the way Max is right now, he won't listen to reason and he might really kill Jack. No! Can't let Jack be killed.' Suz thought as she watched Max pummel more punches into Jack.
"Damn it! I don't have time for this, just freaking die!" Max roared as his eyes scanned around for his gun but instead, it landed on a knife that fell with some bunch of fruits.
Without hesitation, he reached out for it and Suz who watched, her eyes widened in horror.
'No, no,no. I need to do something now. Before it's too late.' She thought, her eyes thumping loudly as she scanned around looking for anything that could stop Max when her eyes landed on it.
A gun. And not just any gun, Max's gun which lay beneath her feet.
Without hesitation, she picked it up and glanced at it, her hands trembling as she was skeptical.
'I…I can't use it, I can't shoot it.' Suz thought as she felt her heart thumping louder and louder when…
"Arghhh!" Max roared as he lifted the knife above his head, blood dripping down his mouth as he swung it down aiming to finish Jack who raised his hands up in fear.
POW!
BANG!
BANG!
Two loud gunshots filled the air before a chilling hush befell the room.
Max halted, blood filling his mouth as he stared down at his body.
Blood dripped down, his clothes soaking red. With a cough, a mouthful of blood sprayed out as he slowly turned around to see his gun in Suz's hands.
It was pointed at him and at the muzzle, it was smoking. A sign that it had just been put to use.
He felt his body weaken when Jack also planted a solid kick into his abdomen sending his body hurling into a wall.
Blood now dripped down his head as Max's body slid down the wall.
"Weldone my love. You will really be a good wife to your future mafia lord." Jack said as he limped slightly while heading towards a shook up Suz who still had the gun pointed forward, her eyes widened as she stared at Max who's breath had now became ragged.
'I…I…I made a mistake. I… I loved the wrong girl… I…I…I…I wish I had an…another chance… maybe, I might…' Max's thought slurred as his eyes were now closing in and out, his breath ragged as he got drenched in his own blood which now filled the room.
'I have always been unlucky but I never thought I would get killed by the one I called my life. Ha! How ironic to die by the hands of the one who I wanted to spend my life with. Sh…shot in the back.'
'I wish… I so wish I had a second chance… so…so I can take revenge.' Max thought with a weak determination as darkness slowly crept up his vision when…
