Strange things began to happen after that.
Doors opened when she touched them. The stars seemed to move when she looked up. And Kael… kept finding excuses to be around her.
She caught him one night in the library, holding a forbidden book. He snapped it shut when he saw her.
"You're not what you think you are," he said.
"And what do you think I am?" she asked.
He stared at her, voice low.
"A key. A threat. Or my ruin."
And then, he walked away.
