Chapter 1 - Rose, Amy, Jamie And Rory

Rose's POV:

It looked like a tornado hit nineteen-year-old Rose Tyler's bed! Clothes were piled on and thrown on her bed, shoes one by one being tossed as well. Excitement buzzed her busy brain as she went thru her closet for the best outfits to put in her already full suitcase. Rose had been looking forward to this trip with her friends, Jamie, his sister, Amy and her boyfriend, Rory all year, it was their annual summer trip, a sort of friends-only vacation.

It was a summer tradition. It was going to be great, an entire summer at Jamie's parents beautiful vacation country home. But this time it felt a little bittersweet, Rose and Jamie would be starting college soon so this would be there last vacation all together.

But more importantly it was Rose's last chance to tell Jamie how she felt about him.

Rose and Jamie been friends since grade school. Jamie was kind, sweet, always there for Rose when she needed him. She smiled thoughtfully, thinking those amber colored eyes, dark brown messy hair and that cute Scottish accent! He was smart, gorgeous, and somehow made Converse sneakers look really cool!

She had wanted to tell him for years how she felt but at the time he had a girlfriend but now that he was single, this was the perfect moment!

She grinned happily to herself imagining how wonderful everything was going to be! This trip was going to be perfect!

Amy and Rory's POV:

Meanwhile, eighteen-year-old Amy was busy sorting thru items for the trip while her twenty-year-old fiancé' Rory sat on the bed watching. There was a tense awkward silence but that was nothing new to them. It was actually an improvement for the past few months, they could barely speak to each other, properly without fighting.

Amy and Rory had been together since middle school and were just recently engaged. They were the perfect young couple, but something had changed between them. Maybe it was Rory's hectic nursing schedule or Amy's busy writing career or maybe it was just a million other things. Whatever it was no one, not even her brother, or their friends knew that they had been having problems or that Rory had been sleeping in another room but that's how they wanted it. Amy was just too a shame to reveal the truth, that things weren't working out. That they weren't that perfect couple everyone envied, it also didn't help that Jamie had been the one to set them up, but the trip was tomorrow, and they were trying to figure out how to survive it and each other.

Finally, Rory glanced at her and spoke,

"We need to tell them." He commented.

Amy scowled.

"No, we don't." She replied quickly. She was not ready to tell anyone, yet!

Rory sighed.

"Well, it's going to look a little a strange with me not there." He pointed out.

Amy shrugged.

"I'll tell them you're busy at the hospital," She simply replied. Amy then shot him a look. "You ought to know about that, hmm?" She remarked.

Rory rolled his eyes.

"It can't be helped," He said. "Besides, you know I'm trying to make an impression on the head Doctor, if I show how hard I'm working I have a better chance at getting that promotion." Rory explained.

Amy simply walked past him grunting under her breath.

He watched her as she placed some clothes inside her suitcase, it was clear she was hurting. He felt bad, Rory did love her but everything he was doing was for their future. Why couldn't she see that?

Rory slowly stood.

"If I get that promotion that'll mean more days off for me, yeah," He said trying to cheer her up. "We'll have more time together, then." Rory pointed out.

She paused looking at him, plainly.

"That's what you said when you became head nurse, remember?" Amy reminded him.

Rory just sighed heavily pressing his lips. He wasn't up for arguing.

Amy sighed as she zipped up her bag.

"I'll just tell them you're busy," She shrugged. "They'll get it." Amy reasoned folding her arms.

Rory just nodded.

"Yeah, sure." He muttered softly.

Amy was starting to regret her harsh tone.

"You do know you can come by anytime," She offered. "Jamie, won't mind." Amy said.

Rory shook his head.

"I can't, there's no way I can get time off." He told her.

Amy rolled her eyes wondering why they were even together! She walked away in a huff leaving Rory sitting there frustrated and feeling terrible.

Later Amy called her older brother, Jamie, to check on him and to make sure everything was ready for the trip.

After a few rings, she smiled hearing Jamie's voice.

"Hey, you!" She said.

"Amy, hi," Jamie replied. "How are you?" He asked.

Amy heard scurrying and grunting like items being shoved and frowned.

"Fine," She replied. "What are you doing?" Amy asked.

"Packing." Jamie simply replied.

Amy glanced at the clock, it was almost eleven P.M but somehow she wasn't surprised. Her brother did everything last minute.

She sighed.

"Procrastinating, again, I see?" She teased.

Jamie scoffed.

"What, the trip's tomorrow, I've got time," He said. "Besides some of the best world travelers took their time, yeah." Jamie added.

Amy sighed knowing what he meant. For a while, Jamie had talked about traveling the world before starting college, something he had always wanted to do since he was a kid. She was already nervous and was hoping they would all attend college together, but it seemed like he had made his decision.

"So, I guess you made up your mind, then." She sighed.

Jamie exhaled.

"Yeah," He admitted. "I know it's sudden, but I need to do this, and I'll get to college, eventually." Jamie promised.

Amy nodded.

"I know, I was just hoping you be there with me." She replied disappointed.

Jamie sighed.

"I know," He said. "But you got this," Jamie told her. "And besides Rose will be there and so will Rory." He pointed out.

Amy just swallowed feeling doubtful about that. She wasn't even sure if they would be together after this.

"Uh, yeah," She answered quickly. "So, is everything set?" Amy asked changing the subject.

"Yep," Jamie replied popping his p'," "All set been and successfully I might add!" He boasted.

Amy smirked hearing him struggling a bit with his suitcase zipper.

"Hopefully, more successful than your packing skills." She joked.

"Oi'!" He replied feigning hurt.

Amy just smiled.

"Well, I leave you to your packing." She said.

"Okay, ginger," He replied. "Send my best to Rory." Jamie added before hanging up.

Guilt set in as she hung up the phone. Deep down she knew she had to tell Jamie the truth, that she and Rory were having problems. She couldn't keep this charade up forever especially if she was considering leaving Rory. Amy then decided she was going to tell her brother the truth… after the trip or at least until she figured out what she was going to do. Whichever came first.
