Chapter 8 - AN OLD FRIEND

Ethan was staring at the place where it all started. The giant hole where the big metal Boulder was, the broken tree, and lastly, the fried phone.

He saw that there was a trail, like the Boulder was an asteroid that had fallen to earth.

Ethan kept his analyzing attitude for sometime before he decided to put on his helmet.

He was already wearing the suit so if he began to run it wouldn't be much of a problem.

So he turned and walked towards the street, by following the path.

However, he felt awkward because the suit was a one piece and kind of tight.

When he reached the street, he immediately pushed himself into superspeed, he was so confident in his speed that he even took a detour through an alley.

Unsurprisingly, there was an arms deal but not to worry, their weapons disappeared… and suddenly those same weapons fell onto the heads of the arms dealers.

Ethan chuckled as he stared down from the ceiling, then he went down the fire escape and went back to running home.

When he got home, he immediately went to the TV and watched some anime while eating some chips.

The next day, it was the weekend, and Ethan wanted to train on weekends so that he could gain control of his powers, but the world had other plans…

Ethan returned to the same park he was in yesterday, trying to find a nicely secluded place where he could just train without making people notice he was there.

So he searched around the park, and while looking around, he reached the edge of the park where he saw a comic shop beyond the fence and across the street.

He stared at the comic shop, beginning to go into his own head.

comics… a hero's lives are documented there, well I wish this world has heroes… that would be cool, but… dangerous, villains could be made, I guess it's the natural order of things… cant have light without darkness nor right without wrong… so I guess it's a necessary thing so that we know what 'good' is….

Ethan snapped back to reality and turned back towards the park and began walking on the brick path and following it.

he kept an eye on his surroundings to avoid awkward encounters then he saw a guy who seemed familiar…

He didn't know why but the guy reminded Ethan of his old friend, and while Ethan was struggling to remember him, the guy suddenly burst into flames and flew upwards.

The flames covered his face and body, it was like he became a humanoid made of fire.

Ethan: "Ayo! What?!"

Ethan ran to the spot that the guy was standing at,then he looked up at the guy and yelled out, trying to get his attention.

Ethan: "Hey! Hey!"

The guy looked down at Ethan, and then the flames on the guy's body suddenly disappeared.

Ethan watched as the guy hovered down until he reached the ground, then he smirked at Ethan and crossed his arms.

The guy: "Pretty cool, huh?"

Ethan: "Yeah, how can you… control your powers?"

Ethan furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, then he looked at the guys amazing physique, like he was a macho man.

The guy: "It's really simple, just use your creativity… You know, think about what you wanna do with your powers, but… It's hard to fight physically AND imagine using your powers to USE it…"

Ethan: "Oh… Well, I'll keep it in mind, so I can train."

The guy: "I'm John, you're Ethan, right?"

Ethan: "Yes? wait, how did you-…?"

John: "Don't you remember me? John… the red reaper"

Ethan: "Wait, wait… JOHN? as in THE john that was-"

John: "Your friend, yes, that's me."

No wonder he was familiar, it's John! And he's as muscly as always, he's probably built more muscles now than he did before.

Ethan and John did a handshake and high-fived, before they talked to each other, catching up with what had happened since they last met and how life had been in general, then they joked around and laughed.

Ethan asked John to help him gain control of his power instead of them being the kind that just come out in the spur of the moment, especially the other powers that he can use without doing physical activity like running.

And so Ethan learned how to use his powers; he could now use basic moves using his powers, like summoning lightning, and zapping people using his powers, and movement-based powers like how to create a tornado and punching hard.

Ethan: "Thanks, bro! So… you go to the gym, right?"

John: "Yeah, how'd you know?"

Ethan: "well… the muscles… duh"

Ethan sighed half-jokingly, before hitting John lightly on the shoulder.

John: "Yeah… and oh by the way, I'm in the same school as you."

Ethan: "What?"

John: "You know… your school…"

Ethan: "How did you know that it was the same school as mine?"

John: "Well, the school might be big, but news spreads faster than peanut butter on a kid's sandwich."

Ethan didn't fully understand what John was saying but he got the jest of it, but then he remembered Ghost King who might be doing something unethical.

Ethan: "Haha, you're right… anyways it's been some days since I last met ghost king, I'm going to go see if he did anything…"

John: "Ghost king? oh yeah right, you told me… the ghostly… evil… version of you… Or is it a clone?"

Ethan: "Even I don't know. Haha, but life is full of mysteries, which is why scientists have jobs."

Ethan and John laughed and talked before Ethan ran towards his house, where Ghost King had broken in after their first encounter and had never left since..
