Prologue

Do you think fate can be changed?

Most people would probably say that fate can be changed as long as you're willing to try.

But I believe fate cannot be changed. Why do I say that?

It all started when I was around 10 years old—the beginning and the end of my family.

More precisely, when my father found out that my mother had been involved with another man. In other words, she had been cheating on him.

After that, the family I once thought would last forever—just like in the bedtime stories my parents used to read to me—turned into something more like a tragic Web Novel.

They got divorced. My mother disappeared without a trace, and my father fell into deep depression and began neglecting me.

Eventually, he left me in the care of my uncle. Not long after, he took his own life.

That event still haunts me, even though six years have passed. I'm now 16 years old and a high school student.

These days, I spend my time reading Web Novels, something I stumbled upon while scrolling through social media. At first, it was just for fun. But over time, it became a real hobby.

As for my social life? Of course, I live like a normal student—talking to classmates, teachers, and others. But honestly, it's all just an act.

Yes, I'm still depressed. But I force myself to socialize, because humans are social creatures. We can't survive alone.

So what am I doing right now? As always—reading Web Novels. After school, I spend the rest of my day with my eyes glued to my phone screen.

It's midnight now. The clock shows exactly 12 AM, and I'm still reading.

At some point, I drifted off to sleep, the phone screen still glowing in my hand.

When I opened my eyes again, I was shocked. I wasn't staring at my bedroom ceiling anymore. Instead, I saw the night sky and a clear view of the moon.

I quickly sat up and looked around.

Was I dreaming?

"This feels way too real to be a dream," I muttered.

I was no longer in my room. I was surrounded by tall trees, and just ahead of me was a lake.

Looking down, I noticed that my clothes were completely different. I stood up and rushed toward the lake to see my reflection.

"Is this really… my face?"

Staring back at me was someone with jet-black hair and deep crimson eyes. While I was still trying to process what I was seeing, a floating panel suddenly appeared before me.

"Is this real? Did I really just transmigrate…?"
