Wyzett studied the broken wand in his hand, his tone patient and reassuring. "Ron, if you just tape it together, you're risking a wand backfire."
"Wand... backfire!" The color drained from Ron's face at those words, his voice trembling. "You mean it could really... backfire?"
Hermione and Harry exchanged puzzled looks, clearly mystified by Ron's reaction.
Harry scratched his head. "What's wand backfire? Is it really that bad?"
"Of course it is!" Ron swallowed hard. "You've never heard the sayings? 'A wand backfires, and the worms will have you; a wand backfires, and you'll burn in the flames…'"
He rattled off several old wizarding rhymes, reciting them like nursery jingles. "I grew up with those warnings—trust me, it's dangerous!"
Hermione and Harry, raised in the modern Muggle world, could only frown in confusion at Ron's old wizarding superstitions.
Hermione tried to piece it together. "So... if a wand backfires, you'll get eaten by worms, then burned? Is that what it means?"
Wyzett smiled, searching for a better analogy. "Have you ever heard of an electrical short circuit?"
He waited for a beat, then explained, "It's when wires aren't connected right, so they spark, burn out, and can even destroy the appliance."
Hermione's face lit up with understanding. "Oh! Now I get it!"
Harry's eyes widened. "So it's like a short circuit! Uncle Vernon once tried to fix our wiring... nearly set the fridge on fire!"
"And then they blamed it on me, of course—said it was just another weird thing happening around me."
Ron's curiosity was piqued. "Short circuits? Your Muggle gadgets have magic too? They catch fire?"
Wyzett chuckled. "You could call technology a kind of magic—the product of Muggle ingenuity. Appliances use electricity for things like keeping food fresh or heating it up."
"But they can go wrong, too. The consequences are a lot like wand backfire—sometimes even deadly. So you always have to be careful."
Ron scratched his head, only half-comprehending. "Sounds... kind of fun, actually. No wonder Dad's obsessed with Muggle stuff…"
Wyzett steered the conversation back. "Ron, would you let me try repairing your wand?"
Ron's eyes went wide, his voice urgent. "You think you can fix it?"
For a wizard, a wand was everything—especially for a student at Hogwarts, where nearly every subject required one.
"I can't promise a perfect restoration," Wyzett admitted, shaking his head. "But I'll do my best to make it safe—at least safe enough that it won't backfire."
"That'd be brilliant!" Ron nodded furiously. "Is there anything I can help with? Just say the word!"
"No need," Wyzett replied, waving him off. "Honestly, repairing wands is fascinating—well worth the study."
His real motivation was to revisit his wandlore studies, and to put a few new theories to the test. Learning something new was important, but so was reviewing the old.
Whether it was Animagus transformation or wandcraft, these were magical wonders he wanted to truly master.
He glanced up. "What's your first class on Monday?"
Hermione was quick to answer. "Herbology!"
"Plenty of time, then," Wyzett nodded. "I'll take the wand with me."
"If you need anything, just shout!" Ron said, nearly bouncing. "Even if I can't help, I'll drag Fred and George in too!"
"Deal," Wyzett said, waving as he headed for the moving staircases.
At the corner, he ran into a familiar figure—Draco Malfoy, still in his Quidditch robes.
Their eyes met, and Draco flinched as if startled.
Wyzett nodded politely. "Afternoon, Draco. Just finished training?"
"Yeah! The Nimbus 2001 is wicked fast!" Draco's cheeks were still flushed with excitement. "Er… Wyzett, do you want a new broom? I mean, I remember you—"
Maybe recalling the morning's confrontation, Draco let the offer trail off.
"Thanks," Wyzett replied with a small smile. "But I'm attached to my old broom. We've made a good team this past year—I'm used to it."
Draco's smile turned a bit awkward. "Yeah… I suppose that makes sense."
…
Ron watched Wyzett leave, then threw an arm around Harry's shoulders. "C'mon, Harry, let's go play Wizard's Chess!"
He had total faith in Wyzett—by Monday, everything would be sorted.
Harry nodded, tempted by the idea.
"Have you two finished your homework?" Hermione arched an eyebrow. "I tried to get you to do it last night, but you both said you'd do it today…"
"If you'd come to the library with me this morning, maybe your wand wouldn't have been stomped on and broken."
"Er…" Ron and Harry both hesitated, dropping their arms. "Maybe we should… go back to the common room and do our homework?"
"Good idea. I need to study more, anyway!" Hermione nodded solemnly, her brow furrowed in thought.
"Wyzett knows so much—I really need to work harder! You two go on—I'll see if Madam Pince will let me borrow a few extra books."
Ron watched Hermione leave, then turned to Harry, concern in his voice. "She's been in the library nearly all day… I don't think she even had lunch."
"I've got a few Chocolate Frogs left," Harry offered. "Want to take them to her?"
Ron nodded. "Yeah, that's a good idea!"
Repairing the broken magical circuits inside a wand was like tying the tiniest of knots—it demanded patience and a steady hand.
Following the principles of wand-making, Wyzett devised his own sequence for the repairs.
First, he cast a Mending Charm to restore the wand's body. Then he began the delicate work of reconnecting the magical channels within.
This required careful adjustment—shortening the wand slightly, relaxing the tension in its inner circuits.
If the magical channels were left too taut, the wand could break again, and a second repair would be nearly impossible.
The process went smoothly. Wyzett even had time to wish Luna goodnight before heading out for another round of nighttime wandering.
As he took a free fall down the moving staircases, using Primordial Power: Obscurus Form (Basic), a strange sound brushed past his ear.
"Rip…"
It was a voice, cold and venomous. Though it drifted by in a fleeting whisper, its meaning was unmistakable.
Wyzett was certain—this was no Mandrake cry…
