Chapter 507: This is a True Child of Fairy Tail, Raised Within the Guild
"The decision to use the Celestial Spirit World was based on several critical factors," Noah explained, sitting cross-legged on the grass.
Seeing him sit, the rest of the guild followed suit, forming a large circle around him.
"First, if an invincible enemy attacked, I could easily use Spatial Magic to teleport us all away. But I couldn't simply abandon Tenrou Island. It's our guild's sacred ground, the resting place of the First Master. Leaving it behind to be obliterated was completely unacceptable.
"Second, teleporting an entire island requires a phenomenal, incomprehensible amount of magic power. Given that I would likely be completely drained from fighting said invincible enemy to buy us time, I wouldn't have the magic left to initiate the transfer. Therefore, we needed a massive, external magical battery. Tenrou Island itself, deeply saturated with ancient ambient magic, was the perfect candidate.
"By installing a specific barrier matrix, we were able to force the island to passively absorb and stockpile ambient magic at a hyper-accelerated rate, generating the reserves necessary for the transfer and everything that followed."
"So... those underwater devices you had us planting all around the island perimeter for days... those were magical accumulators?" Laxus asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Exactly. We had to spread them out over a massive area to gather enough magic quickly. Because Tenrou Island is a natural magical nexus, combined with the absorption matrix we installed, we managed to stockpile an astronomical amount of energy, making all of this possible," Noah nodded.
"I remember that! We spent days diving underwater to set those things up!" Sorano chimed in. Spending hours swimming around the ocean floor was a very memorable experience.
Laxus, Mirajane, and Erza nodded in agreement. It had been an exhausting but incredibly unique mission.
"That sounds so fun! I want to go play underwater too!" Lisanna said, looking at Noah with eager, sparkling eyes.
"Don't worry, there will definitely be opportunities in the future. We can all go explore the ocean floor together," Noah promised with a smile.
Hearing this, Lisanna, Kagura, and the other girls beamed with excitement, while Natsu and the boys grinned in anticipation. Breathing and walking on the ocean floor was an adventure none of them had ever experienced.
"Third, since we needed to relocate the entire island, we had to choose a destination. I initially considered three options: the sky, deep underground, or the bottom of the ocean. After discussing it with the First Master, we settled on the ocean floor as our primary backup plan, eliminating the sky and the underground."
Noah held up three fingers, counting them off.
"Relocating the island, maintaining the cloaking barrier, and resisting external environmental pressures all require a massive, continuous supply of magic. If we moved the island into the sky, we would have to expend a colossal amount of magic simply to keep it afloat. Furthermore, hiding a floating island from optical and sensory detection is incredibly difficult.
"Moving it underground would mean burying it inside a mountain range, which is structurally risky. The ocean floor, however, offered a distinct advantage. While resisting the crushing deep-sea pressure would require significant magic, the sheer volume of surrounding, shifting water would naturally scatter our magical signature, making us practically impossible to track. So, the ocean floor was our initial plan.
"However, after consulting with the Celestial Spirit King, we found an infinitely better option: the Celestial Spirit World.
"It's a completely different dimension. In terms of absolute concealment, shifting the island into an entirely different plane of existence is infinitely superior to hiding it anywhere on Earthland. And since our guild happens to possess all twelve Zodiac Keys—and I've studied the underlying mechanics of Celestial Spirit Magic—we were able to use the Keys as a dimensional anchor to pull the entire island across the boundary."
"The Celestial Spirit World is definitely the best choice. Especially against something like Acnologia," Ultear deduced, summarizing the tactical advantage. "If we had hidden in the sky, underground, or even the deep ocean, Acnologia's terrifying draconic senses would have likely tracked us down. But by completely shifting dimensions, the difficulty of tracking us becomes practically impossible. We're completely safe here.
"Is this why you specifically recruited Lucy?" Ultear asked, looking at the blonde mage.
The others mentally nodded in agreement. They all knew exactly how absurd a Dragon Slayer's senses were. Natsu and Gajeel could smell a specific scent from miles away and hear whispers through solid rock. If mere humans wielding Dragon Slayer Magic possessed senses that sharp, a true Dragon—especially the Dragon King—would have senses bordering on omniscience. Nowhere on Earthland would have been safe.
But smelling a scent across dimensional boundaries? Unless Acnologia possessed literal, reality-breaking omnipotence, that was impossible.
"Yes. As the owner of the vast majority of the Zodiac Keys, Lucy possesses the strongest, most profound connection to the Celestial Spirit World of any living mage. To pull an entire island across the dimensional boundary, her magical signature as an anchor was absolutely vital," Noah confirmed.
"Hehe!" Lucy rubbed the back of her head, blushing furiously as everyone turned to look at her with newfound respect.
"Wow, Lucy is actually super important! I thought she was only good at eating!" Happy snickered from the side.
"I am very important! You're just too dense to notice!" Lucy snapped, glaring at the blue cat.
"But wait... you just said keeping the island floating in the sky requires a massive amount of magic. How are we sustaining it now? Even if Tenrou Island stockpiled a lot of magic, surely it can't last forever, right?" Sorano asked, looking around.
Tenrou Island was currently floating serenely in the starry void of the Celestial Spirit World, not touching anything. Furthermore, the massive, multi-layered barrier was still visibly active. The magical drain had to be astronomical.
"Heh. This is where my research into Celestial Spirit Magic truly shines," Noah smirked proudly. "I developed a highly complex enchantment that actively absorbs starlight and ambient astral energy, converting it directly into pure magic power.
"If we used this spell in the Human World, it would gather a decent amount of magic. But here...?"
Noah gestured grandly to the infinite sea of stars surrounding them.
"Ah! I get it! This is the Celestial Spirit World! The entire dimension is literally made of stars!" Erza's eyes widened in realization.
The others quickly looked up and scrutinized the barrier. Sure enough, countless tiny, glittering specks of starlight were constantly drifting into the golden dome, being seamlessly absorbed by the runic matrix.
"Exactly. The ambient starlight here is practically infinite. My conversion spell is operating at maximum efficiency. Not only is it generating more than enough magic to keep the island afloat and sustain the primary barrier, it's actually rapidly replenishing the reserves we burned during the transfer," Noah grinned.
"Wait, the reserves we burned?" Carla asked sharply.
"Yeah. The island absorbed enough magic to execute the entire plan, but Acnologia's attacks forced us to burn through a massive chunk of it early," Noah explained.
"The defensive system consisted of three distinct barrier layers. I activated all three right before Acnologia struck.
"The outermost layer absorbed the kinetic impact of its physical crash, and managed to stall its Dragon's Roar for a few crucial seconds. When that layer shattered, it intentionally detonated the energy of the Roar outward, creating that massive, blinding explosion. That explosion served as a flashbang, completely scrambling Acnologia's senses and masking our magical signature.
"The second layer protected the island from the resulting explosion, allowing us to safely execute the dimensional transfer. Once we crossed the boundary, that second layer autonomously disintegrated, permanently erasing any residual spatial tracks so Acnologia couldn't follow us.
"And finally, the third layer—the one you see right now."
Noah pointed at the shimmering golden dome enclosing the island.
"This barrier is sustaining our presence in the Celestial Spirit World. It possesses multiple autonomous functions: converting starlight into magic, drawing ambient ethernano from the island's soil, providing environmental life-support, mitigating external attacks, cloaking our visual signature, and passively accelerating the physical and magical recovery of anyone bearing the Fairy Tail crest.
"It is the culmination of my life's work in Enchantment and Runic Magic. The First Master also provided invaluable insight into its structural integrity. While it consumes a terrifying amount of magic, Tenrou Island's environment and the starlight conversion matrix provide more than enough fuel to keep it running indefinitely."
Noah couldn't hide his pride. This three-layered absolute defense matrix was his masterpiece. It was precisely because he had engineered this flawless, foolproof escape route that he had been confident enough to challenge Acnologia head-on.
"That's incredible!" Wendy and Meredy gasped in sheer awe. Having finished applying minor healing spells to the rest of the guild, they had returned to Noah's side just in time to hear the explanation.
"It truly is a masterpiece of magical engineering," Freed nodded solemnly, his eyes shining with profound professional respect.
"Absolutely brilliant," Levy agreed vigorously. As the two resident experts in Solid Script and Runic Magic, they understood better than anyone just how impossibly complex Noah's matrix was.
Just engineering a barrier capable of stalling the Black Dragon's Roar for a few seconds was a feat that would drive the greatest runic masters in history to despair. To seamlessly integrate that into a multi-layered, autonomous dimensional-transfer system was simply god-like.
Makarov sat beside them, a wide, goofy, utterly uncontainable grin plastered across his face. This was a true child of Fairy Tail, raised within the guild, using his peerless genius to protect his family.
"Grandpa, reign in that smile. Your face is going to split in half," Laxus sighed, watching the old man literally beam with pride.
"I'm happy! Let me be happy!" Makarov waved him off dismissively, not dropping the grin for a second.
Laxus shook his head, deciding to leave the old man alone.
Gildarts and Ur also watched Noah with warm, incredibly proud smiles. They weren't surprised by Makarov's overwhelming joy.
This entire crisis had been resolved almost entirely by the younger generation. Noah had orchestrated the defense and the escape. Mavis had merely offered structural advice; the heavy lifting was all Noah.
The rest of the guild had also grown immensely, each displaying incredible courage and power. Makarov could proudly point to any single one of them and declare to the world that they were his children. Seeing the younger generation flourish and protect one another was a Guild Master's greatest dream.
"Hey, didn't Mustache-ossan say we were having a banquet? When does it start? I'm starving!" Natsu suddenly complained, his stomach letting out a thunderous rumble that echoed across the quiet clearing.
"Aye... when's the fish coming?" Happy groaned, rubbing his empty belly.
"Be patient. Preparing a banquet takes time. They will call us when it is ready," Carla reprimanded them gently.
"It's not just us. There are 32 of us, plus Noah, Lucy, and Yukino's contracted Spirits, and the Celestial Spirit King himself. Not to mention any other Spirits who decide to join the celebration. That's a massive feast for dozens of people. It's going to take a while to prepare," Panther Lily reasoned logically.
"I'm so hungry..." Natsu slumped face-first into the dirt, utterly devoid of energy. The adrenaline had completely worn off, leaving only the hollow ache of magical exhaustion and severe hunger.
Seeing Natsu collapse, the rest of the guild suddenly realized how hungry they were as well. One by one, they slumped onto the grass, conserving their energy as they waited for the feast.
"Alright, you two need to rest as well. Don't push yourselves," Noah said softly. He raised his left hand and used a gentle wave of telekinesis to lift Wendy and Meredy—who had just finished healing another guildmate—and placed them gently on the grass beside him.
"But... there are still a few people who need treatment..." Wendy protested weakly, her brow furrowed in concern.
"They only have minor scrapes and bruises. For seasoned brawlers like them, those injuries will heal on their own in no time. Besides, the island's barrier is already passively accelerating their physical and magical recovery," Noah explained, gesturing toward the remaining mages, who were all relaxing comfortably.
"Noah's right. You two have worked hard enough. You need to rest," Carla added, looking at the two young girls with deep concern.
"Okay... we'll rest," Wendy and Meredy finally relented. Seeing the remaining mages wave them off and offer reassuring smiles, they sat back and closed their eyes.
With the girls finally resting, Noah raised his mangled right arm again.
Golden analytical arrays materialized in front of his eyes as he began meticulously observing the horrific wound.
Simultaneously, the ground of Tenrou Island beneath him began to glow softly. Countless tiny, shimmering specks of raw ambient magic floated up from the earth and streamed directly into Noah's body.
"Brother Noah, are you...?" Meredy asked, her eyes widening in realization.
"Right now, absolutely every single drop of magic my body naturally regenerates is being instantly consumed to suppress and contain Acnologia's corrupted flesh. I have literally zero excess magic to spare. If I want to actively cast analytical spells to study the corruption, I have to draw supplemental magic directly from Tenrou Island," Noah explained calmly.
He then pulled another high-grade potion from his spatial pocket with his left hand, downed it, and tossed the empty vial away.
Hearing his casual explanation, the entire guild stiffened.
They all knew exactly how monstrous Noah's natural regeneration rate was. For him to claim that 100% of his regenerating magic was being instantly devoured just to prevent a severed chunk of Acnologia's flesh from mutating his arm...
The sheer, terrifying potency of the Black Dragon's corruption was beyond human comprehension.
