Chapter 42 - Chapter 43: Air Pursuit Battle

As soon as Amir detected the enemy, he activated the ship's stealth mode, and the Traveler gradually became transparent.

Under Amir's control, the ship maneuvered along a curved path.

Since he didn't have time to shut down all the ship's systems, it was only optically invisible; the Traveler's signals could still be detected by radar. Therefore, he had to be on guard against a sudden attack.

Sure enough, the TIE fighter behind him fired a torpedo, followed by a series of laser beams.

Amir kept his eyes fixed on the scanner showing the position of the pursuing enemy, adjusting the spaceship's angle to dodge the attacks and setting a hyperspace acceleration route.

At that moment, a familiar wave exploded around him.

"Hum~"

A panel on the front of his ship flashed red, indicating that space had been interfered with.

He never expected to be retaliated against after using this tactic against the Empire. It truly was a case of what goes around comes around.

Having used this tactic once before, however, Amir was familiar with its characteristics.

First, it lasted approximately thirty minutes.

Second, it had a vast range of effect. At the Traveler's maximum flight speed, it would take about ten minutes to escape completely.

Amir immediately boosted the ship's power to maximum and flew away.

Ten minutes was still shorter than half an hour.

The Traveler turned into a white streak, rapidly shrinking in the sky above Tatooine, with two TIE fighters hot on its tail.

Amir maneuvered swiftly but couldn't shake the fighters. Without the capability of hyperspace flight, pure acceleration alone made it difficult for most cargo ships to match fighters.

The Traveler had undergone significant modifications to achieve its current speed.

However, unless Amir could obtain a sublight drive to allow the ship to reach sublight speeds without entering hyperspace, they would remain vulnerable to pursuit.

The only thing to be thankful for was that these small fighter jets couldn't enter hyperspace.

Amir suddenly turned the control stick, and the ship rotated sideways at a right angle, dodging the heavy laser cannon fired by the TIE fighter jet at the propulsion system. Immediately after, Amir pressed a button.

Two missile silos opened at the bottom of the Traveler's wings, and four torpedoes were launched.

The TIE fighter reacted quickly, veering sideways to avoid collision.

However, Amir kept his eyes on the radar screen. At the moment they were closest to the torpedoes, he pressed the detonation button.

There was no sound, but they could see the light bending around them in the powerful energy wave.

The torpedoes exploded, sending countless tiny fragments flying in all directions.

The fragments struck the nearby TIE fighters, but they failed to penetrate their sturdy hulls.

"Let's see how many hits you can take," Amir said. He checked his ammunition supply and felt a bit more confident.

The Traveler, on the other hand, was equipped with four deflection shield generators. As long as it wasn't hit repeatedly in the same spot, its defenses were hard to breach.

So far, they hadn't managed to land a single hit.

At Obi-Wan's request, Amir maintained a constant connection with the Force around him.

With deliberate focus, he roughly anticipated the targeting positions of the two TIE fighters and the timing of their heavy laser cannon fire.

Though this was pushing his limits, it was manageable in the short term.

The TIE fighters in the rear grew impatient and changed tactics, ceasing their random fire. The two ships adjusted their course to position themselves on either side of the Traveler.

Amir noticed their shift in position and smiled.

This tactic was all too familiar to him—after all, he had specialized in naval warfare at the Imperial Academy.

The two TIE fighters aimed at the Traveler's wings, which blocked Amir's ability to dodge the laser cannons while remaining stationary in the center. After firing, the continuous beams crossed each other, covering the entire forward area of the Traveler.

Though not very accurate, the tactic allowed for a high margin of error. If they managed to lock onto the target, the four heavy laser cannons on the two fighters would shatter even the thickest shields.

Although Amir was familiar with this tactic, he didn't underestimate it. He continued to adjust the Traveler's forward direction.

When being pursued, the most important thing was to prevent the enemy from predicting your direction of movement, whether they were pilots or droids.

As long as they couldn't lock onto you, it was difficult to hit you.

However, if your direction became predictable and was figured out by the enemy, your ship would be doomed.

On the TIE fighter's scan panel, the Traveler would change direction just as it was about to lock on, causing the laser cannons to miss.

Finally, they couldn't hold back anymore. Unable to lock on, they resorted to overwhelming firepower.

"This time, let's see how you dodge!"

After a brief pause, the two TIE fighters simultaneously fired rapid-fire beams, blocking all the directions in which the Traveler could dodge.

Amir didn't stop dodging. The ship continued to rotate axially while opening two missile bays and launching two torpedoes.

The torpedoes were immediately hit by laser cannons and erupted into two intense bursts of light, obscuring the TIE fighters' vision.

However, the Imperial pilots didn't hesitate, charging straight into the flames.

Amir's spacecraft trembled slightly.

"We were hit a few times, but luckily, the deflection shield held," he said, checking the ship's condition.

He kept rotating the ship to avoid the denser beams, but four or five laser beams still struck the wings.

As long as the thrusters weren't hit, breaking through the defense would be difficult, and Amir was confident in that. Now it was time for the enemy to panic.

As they burst out of the flames, both pilots widened their eyes.

"There were only two torpedoes on the radar! How could there be more?!"

Amir pressed the detonator, and two "stealth" torpedoes exploded, engulfing the TIE fighter in flames.

Amir had specially modified these two torpedoes to absorb radar waves and remain invisible on radar. Combined with the flames caused by the two decoy missiles, the explosions successfully targeted the enemy.

The TIE fighter's fragile shield shattered instantly, and one of its wings was blown off. Gradually, flames and sparks engulfed the fuselage.

Just as Amir was about to breathe a sigh of relief, he suddenly remembered something:

TIE fighters!

When had TIE fighters ever acted alone?

These small fighters lacked independent hyperspace drives and couldn't perform spatial jumps. Instead, they relied on hyperspace drive rings or a massive launch base.

A hyperspace drive ring? Who would use one to send two TIE fighters here?

Besides, Tatooine doesn't have an Imperial fighter launch base. This desert planet only has a squadron of stormtroopers equipped with desert gear.

The only other possibility is a warship.
