Chapter 85 - Chapter 86: Number

"Concealed injuries? My impression was that non-Force-sensitives do not undergo high-intensity testing," Gideon turned his head and questioned.

"That is correct. Which is why we were not paying attention to her physical condition. During the stimulation training, she went into shock due to internal organ damage and fractured ribs," the researcher explained.

Accidents during experiments were unavoidable, especially in tests as inherently dangerous as theirs.

Although most were ordinary incidents, they were always most concerned about cases like this—those without a clear cause and full of suspicious points. Once something similar happened, it had to be reported and the cause investigated.

Because all anomalies could be related to the Force or gene editing. By delving into the cause of the accident, they might discover flaws in the research, or even make a breakthrough.

This was not without precedent.

"Tulio, go take Amir to complete the basic tests. Also, do not stop the indoctrination."

After giving his orders, Gideon followed the researcher out, accompanied by several scientists in charge of this sector.

Tulio took one last look at Amir, who was resting with his eyes closed on the monitor, then turned and left the laboratory.

. . .

Amir opened his eyes after reviewing the knowledge in the manual.

I have to find a way to get the next parts. But that's impossible until they trust me completely.

And I'm out of time...

Standing up, he walked into the fresher. Amir retrieved the spider droid he had sent out earlier and quickly browsed the information it had collected.

This time, Amir had finally managed to probe and map out all the locations he wanted to understand.

Knock, knock.

Just then, a knock came from the door. Amir quickly shut down his wrist display, covered it with his sleeve, and said "Come in" in a voice that was calm but tinged with fatigue.

To Amir's surprise, it was Tulio.

After waiting in the room for an entire day without anyone coming to take him to the training ground, Amir had already given up on using this opportunity to go out today and was planning to act alone at night. But now, Tulio had come.

As expected, Tulio switched on his brainwashing mode as he spoke.

"Your talent and faith have both been recognized by us. Therefore, Colonel Gideon has decided to let me take you to conduct some basic training, to test your abilities."

Amir, expressionless, also activated his own "counter-brainwashing" mode. "I am also looking forward to it. The contents of the manual... I found them incredible."

Showing timely, expectant amazement, Amir continued, "Where are we going? A specialized training ground? Can I test out the things I learned today?"

Tulio paused for a moment, but didn't hesitate for long before saying, "Yes. Several rooms on the warship have been specifically opened for training and testing. They have complete equipment. You can try the things you've learned."

"Do the test subjects usually conduct their experiments in the training ground?" Seeing Tulio gradually opening up under his influence, Amir continued to try and fish for information.

"Yes. Most are concentrated in that area, including activities and rest."

"Then let's go." Having confirmed the contents of his probe, Amir followed Tulio out.

This time, the agent was gone, replaced by three stormtroopers. But the security droid still followed closely behind Amir.

Every time Amir saw this droid, he fantasized about how it would feel to strike it with his lightsaber. It must be very stress-relieving.

Without looking around, Amir had already memorized the route from here to the training ground using the map stolen by the spider droid, because the training ground was right next to that "Rest Area."

Just like that, the two walked on, mutually attempting to manipulate each other.

The corridor was still narrow. Walking on the alloy floor felt like walking through the intestines of some giant creature.

The cold-colored light shone in Amir's eyes, making him feel unusually uncomfortable. This discomfort was strange. Logically, he should be very familiar with this environment; he had been on warships more than once during his two years at the Academy.

Am I getting space-sick? A bizarre thought floated through Amir's mind, but that was impossible. The warship simulated normal gravity, and it almost never shook in space.

Amir never ignored his own unusual feelings, because these feelings were often the Force warning him.

So, as he walked, Amir ignored Tulio's incessant blabbering and began to concentrate, searching for the source of this feeling.

Slowly, Amir's expression grew heavier, and even his breathing began to quicken.

"What's wrong, Amir?" Tulio noticed the change in Amir's expression.

"I have a bad feeling." Amir didn't try to explain, but said it directly. Matters related to the Force rarely needed explanation. No one would be suspicious; they would even fill in the blanks themselves.

Sure enough, Tulio got excited again.

"It must be because of this," Tulio pointed to a room not far ahead and said, "You must have sensed this energy. That is the most powerful form of the Force! Driven and strengthened by various emotions, it is called the dark side! We conducted experiments on it before. Inside is Test Subject 032 from that time. He is the only one who survived out of those one hundred, though now he can only be kept alive in a bacta tank."

"The dark side?"

Amir sensed it, and the source did indeed seem to be here. But it was still strange. He had fought an Inquisitor and knew what the dark side felt like, but this current feeling was not the same. It was similar to the dark side, but mixed with other things... even some that were vaguely familiar.

Hearing Amir's question, Tulio explained, "Yes. Through stimulation training, we fully mobilized his various emotions and successfully guided out the powerful dark side energy. He is very talented, but his body has enormous defects. It's quite a pity."

Fully mobilize emotions.

Amir couldn't bear to imagine what that "mobilization" process was like.

The most effective emotions used to channel the dark side were undoubtedly anger and fear. And the fastest, most effective way to mobilize those emotions was to inflict pain—making one generate anger in agony, and feel fear in despair.

"Was he born in the same period as me?"

"Correct. Of those one hundred, only he survived. Number 32. He has contributed a lot of useful data for us."

"What's his name?" Amir suddenly wanted to know.

"He doesn't have a name. Just 032. Only test subjects who arrive here with names keep them." As if remembering something, Tulio continued, "However, the two girls living over there, Mona and Milisen... they didn't have names originally, but another test subject gave them their names."
