Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Oppressed One

As the sky darkened,Yunyi cooked herself a small pot of vegetable porridge.

Over the past few days, the original Yunyi hadn't been eating properly. The house lacked ingredients, and since Old Master Chu had just been buried, she didn't want to make any changes that might arouse suspicion.

Just as she served the porridge, a voice called out from the gate:— "Chu Yunyi, are you home?"

The voice sounded familiar, but she couldn't quite place it.

The young man standing outside the gate was about to knock again when the door finally opened.

With the original host's memories, Yunyi immediately recognized the cold-faced man: Qin Jianghui.— "It's late. Why are you here?"

He seemed a bit thrown off by the lack of the usual "Brother Jianghui."— "My grandfather asked me to tell you to come to our house tomorrow."

Yunyi thought to herself: Even if the Qin family didn't ask, I would've gone anyway. Judging by his expression, his mother probably got what she wanted.

She simply nodded.— "Alright. I got the message."

Qin Jianghui still wanted to say more, but she didn't give him the chance.— "We just had a funeral here. It's not convenient to invite you in. If there's nothing else, you should go."

Annoyed, he snapped:— "Message delivered. Don't forget."And he turned away.

Yunyi sneered. If Old Master Qin hadn't insisted on the engagement years ago, would they dare to look down on the original Yunyi? Do they really think they're something special?

After dinner, she cleaned up, then strolled around the courtyard to digest her meal and plan her next steps.

She practiced a set of martial arts, then, seeing that it was about time, she changed clothes—ready to deal with some people.

She didn't leave through the front door. Instead, she climbed a ladder and scaled the wall—coming back the same way would be quieter and draw less attention.

Avoiding people, she slipped into the courtyard compound up ahead. Using her space ability, she found an opening to sneak into the Sun family's backyard and disappeared into her private dimension.

She couldn't help sneering as she recalled what the original Yunyi had overheard from Sun Ruiming. This family really knew how to scheme.

That man actually tried to set her up—shame her, break her down emotionally, and turn her into a pawn for their family to manipulate.

To ruin an innocent girl who loved him wholeheartedly… just imagining what would've happened if he had succeeded made her blood boil.

Since he dared to play dirty, she would return the favor tenfold—public humiliation included. Revenge by their own tactics? Her specialty.

Just then, she heard voices from inside the house:— "Ruiming, stop wandering around. Go visit the Chu house more often before someone else snatches the girl."

A lazy voice replied:— "Relax, Dad. You all know how Yunyi feels about me.Even when Old Master Chu was alive, he couldn't stop us. Now? She'll do whatever I say."

Then his eldest sister-in-law added:— "Don't get too cocky. The old man's gone, and there are plenty of people eyeing that girl. You'd better be careful."

Sun Ruiming scoffed proudly:— "She's about to be sent to the countryside. No one's stealing her away."

Another voice chimed in:— "If she leaves town, her house will be empty, right? Think you can convince her to lend it to us?"

As soon as that was said, everyone in the room turned to stare at Sun Ruiming.
