Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Out of the Way, Let Me Handle This!

Xu Qinghuan was very calm. She stepped forward and glanced at Xu Manman's wound. Although there was quite a bit of blood, the wound wasn't serious. Xu Manman seemed unconscious, but her eyelids kept twitching.

Having figured it out, she pushed Jiang Chengxu's bicycle over. Once he placed Xu Manman on the bike, they switched roles: Jiang Chengxu began pushing, and Xu Qinghuan helped guide them to the hospital.

Xu Qinghuan noticed Xu Manman leaning against Jiang Chengxu and didn't intervene. Let her lean if she wants. Jiang Chengxu walked a bit fast, and Xu Qinghuan couldn't keep up. She suggested, "How about I tie Manman to you, and you ride over? It'll be faster that way."

Jiang Chengxu saw the blood spreading across Xu Manman's face and worriedly agreed, "Okay!"

Xu Qinghuan borrowed a piece of hemp rope from the gatekeeper and tied Xu Manman to Jiang Chengxu's waist. With a push on the pedal, the bike took off.

The gatekeeper watched from the entrance and said, "Qinghuan, wasn't it said that you're engaged to that young man?"

Xu Qinghuan laughed, "Uncle, people can still get divorced after getting married. Many things don't count until the end."

The gatekeeper pondered slightly.

Xu Qinghuan asked, "Uncle, with so many people coming and going here every day, have you heard of any factories recently hiring?"

The gatekeeper shook his head, "I'll ask around for you. Several of us work as gatekeepers in other people's factories, so we might hear something."

Xu Qinghuan thanked him and continued to wander around until she reached Yong'an Department Store. She heard a scream and saw a crowd gathering. She quickly joined to see what was happening, asking, "What's going on, what's going on?"

"A pregnant woman fell down, oh dear, she's bleeding so much."

"Daughter, what's wrong with you? Don't scare your mom. Someone help us get her to the hospital!"

Xu Qinghuan shouted, "Please move aside, everyone move aside, let me through!"

In her previous life, she specialized in neurosurgery, not obstetrics, but her skills in Chinese medicine surpassed Western medicine.

At her call, the onlookers quickly parted like Moses parting the sea. Xu Qinghuan directly saw the pregnant woman, belly protruding, lying on the ground with a pool of blood spreading beneath her.

Xu Qinghuan stepped forward, held the pregnant woman's wrist, and checked her pulse silently. The pulse was extremely dangerous.

Seeing Xu Qinghuan, the crowd immediately doubted, as she looked too young.

"Is she capable? She's so young, maybe just a trainee nurse?"

"Who knows, this could end up with two dead!"

The pregnant woman's mother initially thought some miraculous savior had arrived from above, but upon seeing just a young girl, she was extremely disappointed. But as the girl had already started, she became a passive onlooker, unsure of what to do.

Xu Qinghuan quickly pressed a point on the pregnant woman's waist, and the bleeding stopped instantly.

"The baby is in a breech position, eight months pregnant, showing signs of massive bleeding. We need to deliver immediately; get a vehicle to take her to the hospital as soon as possible."

The pregnant woman's mother snapped out of it, almost fainting from anxiety on the spot.

Luckily, Yong'an Department Store had a delivery truck, and two men carried the pregnant woman onto the vehicle.

Xu Qinghuan kept pressing the acupoint on the pregnant woman's waist. She told the mother, "Auntie, press here to stop the bleeding. Tell the doctors at the hospital that before using medication to stop bleeding, do not release this point."

The pregnant woman had coagulation issues, making this a tricky case.

The mother, overwhelmed by such a big ordeal, said, "I can't, comrade, I'm not capable. Please come with us, I beg you!"

After seeing that the pressing worked to stop the hemorrhaging, she knew it was effective.

Given the urgency, Xu Qinghuan didn't delay. It took just over ten minutes to reach the hospital. Doctors came out with a stretcher and asked, "What's the situation?"

Xu Qinghuan explained the pregnant woman's condition. The doctors frowned and discussed briefly, "If her coagulation function is impaired, our hospital can't handle this case for now. However, rest assured, we will arrange for a transfer to the next hospital and ensure they perform the surgery swiftly."

In cases of difficult childbirth, cesarean section is the priority.

The pregnant woman's mother fainted again upon hearing this.

Xu Qinghuan asked, "Are you lacking coagulation medication?"

The doctor, noticing her professional query, nodded, "We just ran out of thrombin. The next shipment won't arrive until tomorrow morning. This patient can't wait."

Xu Qinghuan said, "The jolting could lead to more bleeding. Does the hospital have silver needles?"

The doctor gave Xu Qinghuan a look and finally nodded.

"Jolting presents a significant risk," Xu Qinghuan evaluated the risks by instinct and offered, "I can manage the bleeding, you handle the surgery. Will you trust me?"

The doctor hesitated, "We need consent from the patient's family."

The pregnant woman pleaded, "Please, save my baby. As long as my child is safe, I'll do anything."

But that's not entirely how it works.

The pregnant woman's mother, just waking up, realized the urgency of her daughter's blood loss and the baby's suffering inside. She decisively said, "Alright, we agree. Let this young comrade help us!"

Otherwise, her daughter's blood would have run dry by now.

A nurse had already checked the pregnant woman's condition, listening to the heart rate. It wasn't good, so the doctor reluctantly said, "Let's proceed this way then!"

Truly, the pregnant woman was in grave danger. It's unlikely she could make it to the next hospital, especially concerning the baby. Once the amniotic fluid is contaminated, the baby could suffocate at any moment.

The pregnant woman was taken to the operating room. Xu Qinghuan took a silver needle and inserted it into the acupoint she had been pressing. The anesthesiologist came to administer anesthesia, and Xu Qinghuan made pre-surgical preparations, adding more needles to several major acupoints, easing the woman's condition.

The attending physician prepared to operate. Xu Qinghuan watched as he raised the scalpel to make a vertical incision on the woman's abdomen, causing her to hesitate.

In later times, cesarean sections typically involve horizontal incisions, which are easier to hide and allow for faster recovery post-operation.

The difficulty of a horizontal incision is greater than that of a vertical one.

Moreover, given the thickness of this pregnant woman's abdominal wall, horizontal incision was the safer option from a surgical standpoint.

Xu Qinghuan hesitated. As the attending physician was reluctant to make a move, she raised her hand.

The physician paused, raising his eyebrows, "Surgery is not a matter to be taken lightly."

Just then, the operation room door opened, and another fully-equipped person entered—he was the hospital director, there to supervise the surgery for some reason. Upon seeing the attending physician, he was surprised, "Why are you performing this surgery?"
