Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Recruitment Exam, Selling Positions

Xu Manman only then realized that it was not Jiang Chengxu who told Xu Qinghuan, which means she heard herself mentioning the lighting factory's recruitment yesterday, and came herself today.

"Sister, the registration closed yesterday morning. Today is the exam, and since you didn't register, you can't take the exam today." Xu Manman kindly advised.

"Didn't register? How could Qinghuan not have registered? Didn't you register yesterday?" Zhou Xinyan asked in surprise.

Registration? Did Xu Qinghuan come to register yesterday? She knew about the recruitment at the lighting factory and didn't tell me, nor did she tell Manman. She's so selfish!

"Xu Qinghuan, such important news, you knew and didn't tell me or Manman. Isn't that too much?" Jiang Chengxu looked at Xu Qinghuan with disappointed eyes.

Even if you are being stubborn, you should weigh the importance of things!

Your own first cousin, the daughter of the second uncle who raised you, Xu Qinghuan could actually ignore. Doesn't she have a heart made of iron?

Zhou Xinyan somewhat regretted her earlier words. Did she say something wrong?

Xu Qinghuan gently took her hand, "Let's go, we're running late!"

Zhou Xinyan quickly replied "Oh, oh, oh" and followed Xu Qinghuan inside, unable to resist asking, "Who are those two?"

"One is my fiancé whom I'm about to break off the engagement with, and the other is my cousin." Xu Qinghuan tugged at the corner of her lips, "Not important people!"

"Really? I thought... I didn't expect that!" Zhou Xinyan, afraid that saying too much would affect Xu Qinghuan's exam performance, quickly added, "Qinghuan, the results won't be out until two o'clock in the afternoon. After the exam, let me treat you to lunch at the state-run restaurant!"

Xu Qinghuan had originally planned to take care of the engagement termination during lunch, but since a friend invited her, she couldn't refuse. After all, it was the first invitation from a new friend; if she declined, there might not be another chance.

"Sure!"

Jiang Chengxu watched Xu Qinghuan leave, feeling as if an invisible hand was tearing away at him, something moving further away that he couldn't grasp, and the ripping pain made him very agitated.

"Qinghuan!"

Jiang Chengxu called out angrily, but no one turned back. His raised hand remained in mid-air, becoming a classic moment.

"Ah, Brother Chengxu..."

Suddenly, a force pulled at Jiang Chengxu's other hand. Coming to his senses, he saw Xu Manman along with her bicycle on the ground. She was wearing a Bulaji skirt, and her exposed calf had been scratched by the bicycle, revealing a scary bloodstain that made Xu Manman wince in pain.

She hadn't expected to be hurt so severely, a miscalculation.

Seeing Xu Qinghuan go in to take the exam, Xu Manman didn't want to try her luck. She knew she couldn't pass; although she claimed to have completed middle school, she hadn't actually graduated.

Forget foreign languages, she didn't even know the twenty-six letters.

If Xu Qinghuan passed the exam, she could have Xu Qinghuan give up the position for her; if Xu Qinghuan failed, she would have even less hope.

Therefore, she didn't go in to take the exam and embarrass herself.

She also feared that if she did poorly, Jiang Chengxu would look down on her.

So, she deliberately let the bicycle fall, but didn't expect to get hurt so badly.

Seeing her pale leg suddenly covered in blood, Jiang Chengxu panicked, "Does it hurt? How did you fall?"

"I thought, Brother Chengxu, you had it steady. It's my fault, I can't do anything right!" Xu Manman's eyes turned red, and tears fell immediately, "But it's okay, Brother Chengxu, exam time is fast approaching, I'll go in first."

After saying that, she limped toward the factory, registered, and the gatekeeper couldn't stop her.

Just as she neared the entrance, her leg gave way, and she fell to the side. Jiang Chengxu quickly stepped forward and caught her, and Xu Manman just happened to fall into his arms, her face blushing.

"Brother Chengxu, let me go. I can do this. This opportunity is rare. I must seize it; otherwise, I'll be sent to the countryside. I don't want to go to the countryside, I don't want to be apart from you!" Xu Manman looked admiringly at Jiang Chengxu.

This made the young man feel that the girl before him was full of him.

His heart softened, "With you hurt like this, how can you go in? It's better to go to the hospital first!"

Xu Manman felt deeply moved, but shook her head firmly, "No, I'll take the exam. I don't want to miss such a good opportunity. If I miss it, who knows when the next one will come."

Jiang Chengxu pursed his lips, finally compromising, "I heard that this exam has a large portion of English or Russian. If your sister passes, you can discuss with her. It would be best if she could give up the position for you, so both sisters have a future."

Originally, the reason he didn't tell Xu Qinghuan about this news was that he thought, compared to the older sister, the younger sister needed the opportunity more.

Unfortunately, Xu Qinghuan didn't think that way. She was still a bit selfish.

However, if she is willing to give up the position for Xu Manman, he is willing to take back his view of her as selfish.

After all, no one is perfect, and he felt there should be some tolerance for those willing to correct their mistakes.

Xu Manman smiled, but the satisfied glint in her eyes was deeply hidden, only showing dependence, gratitude, and affection for Jiang Chengxu, as if Jiang Chengxu was the god in her life.

"Brother Chengxu, even if someone offered me the whole world in exchange for you, I wouldn't agree. To me, having you is having the whole world, although you don't belong to me!" Xu Manman's tone showed some apparent melancholy at the end.

Jiang Chengxu was moved by this, "I am your brother-in-law, it's what I should do."

"I know. It's just a pity that my sister always misunderstands us. But it's not her fault, blame me, for being so reliant on Brother Chengxu!"

Xu Qinghuan didn't expect that just after her exam, the position would already be taken.

This exam was relatively difficult, with the last fifty points all being translation questions. There was no Russian, but rather the internationally common language, English translation. But for Xu Qinghuan, it was a piece of cake.

In her past life, even junior high school English was simpler than this, but now, among the nine exam takers apart from Xu Qinghuan, the others were scratching their heads. Their vocabulary was already quite limited, and some had nearly forgotten their words.

Xu Qinghuan finished the paper in half an hour, reviewed it, and turned it in directly.

The invigilators, one from the personnel department and one from the Foreign Translation Bureau, were impressed by Xu Qinghuan's beautiful handwriting and neatly arranged answers, almost perfect.

Both nodded almost simultaneously.
