Claire Sullivan staggered backward in pain. Before she could look up and see who had hit her, an angry voice rang out, "You! Shut up!"
"Dad!"
Claire saw clearly the trembling figure coming toward her and called out in a panic.
Mr. Sullivan did not respond. He walked up to Claire, raised his hand, and slapped her.
Outside, he had heard every word Claire said.
Back then, when Claire went to study in the Imperial Capital, she was pregnant and refused to say who the father was. As parents, they indeed felt ashamed and their first reaction was to abort the child.
