Chapter 17 - Ch17 Weirdo

The next morning, John woke up early and got ready. He took a shower and brushed his teeth, then John put on a navy-blue sweater and black jeans. John summoned some food for himself and ate slowly as he summoned a random 1980's disassembled car that he could put together himself for April. He made it so that the boxes would be delivered by some movers right when he was getting home from school.

At the Wheeler residence, Mike had gotten dressed for school quickly. Mike put some ego waffles in the toaster and when they were done, he put 2 of them in his pocket. Mike then sat down at the table and had breakfast with his family.

Mike was taking huge bites of his breakfast. This was kind of disturbing to everyone at the table. Nancy couldn't handle it any longer and said, "Slow down, Mike. That's disgusting."

Mike said, "Do a lot of studying last night?"

Nancy widened her eyes before she said, "Yeah, actually, I did."

Mike asked, "What was your test on again? Human Anatomy?" Nancy kicked Mike's leg under the table and Mikes did the same to her.

Karen saw this interaction and asked, "What's going on, you two?"

Mike and Nancy said, "Nothing!"

Karen sighed and said, "Why does it have to be like this every morning? Can't the two of you just get along?" Mike and Nancy looked down as they ate their food quietly.

Mike finished eating and excused himself before he ran to the basement. Mike walked down the stairs and opened the blanket fort. Mike saw El looking at the radio in her hand. Mike said, "Hey, you found my super com. Pretty cool, huh? I talk to my friends with it. Mainly just Lucas, 'cause he lives so close. Signal's pretty weak."

Mike remembered the waffles in his pocket and dug them out before he said, "I brought you breakfast." El took the waffles and took a bite. She immediately fell in love with that fluffy, buttery goodness. Mike then went over the plan with El one more time.

Mike said, "I know it sounds weird, but I just need you to go out there. Then go to the front door and ring the doorbell. My mom will answer, and you'll tell her that you're lost and that you need help. But whatever you do, you can't tell her about last night or that you know me. Understand?"

El just stared at Mike. Mike said nervously, "Really, it's no big deal. We'll just pretend to meet each other again. And my mom, she'll know who to call."

Eleven said, "No."

Mike repeated, "No?" El shook her head.

El said once more, "No."

Mike asked, "No, you don't want my mom to get help?" El shook her head slightly.

Mike asked, "You're in trouble, aren't you?" El nodded slightly.

Mike asked, "Who? Who are you in trouble with?"

Eleven said quietly, "Bad."

Mike repeated, "Bad? Bad people?" El nodded her head.

Mike said, "They want to hurt you? The bad people?" Eleven made a gun with her hand and pointed it at her head, then at Mike's head.

El asked, "Understand?"

Karen yelled from upstairs, Michael, where are you? You're going to be late. Let's go!"

Mike stammered, "All right, I'll be back. Just stay here, okay? Stay here." Mike then ran up the stairs to go to school. Eleven sat in the fort and her face showed worry.

John finished his breakfast 10 minutes later and walked to the front door. John put on some red shoes and then walked out his front door. John walked to his car and got in before he backed out of his driveway and sped off. John drove for about 7 minutes before he arrived in front of April's house.

John parked his car before he hopped out and walked to the front door. John didn't even have to knock as April was waiting for him. April pulled John into a tight hug, John wrapped his arms around her and felt her warm body. They were interrupted by Lisa a couple minutes later. Lisa said, "Get going, already. School starts in 10 minutes."

John said, "Lisa, don't get jealous. I love you." John kissed her deeply before he walked over to April. Then April and John put on their shoes and jogged over to the car and got in before they sped off.

As they were driving to the school, John asked, "How was your night?"

April smiled and said, "It was great, Lisa and I watched a movie, afterwards we even ate ice cream."

John said, "Wow, sounds like you had fun."

April nodded her head happily. April said, "I missed you though." April moved closer to John and hugged his arm, John held her hand as he drove with one hand.

John said, "I'm glad, it means you love me."

April nodded and said, "I love you, so much. I could never explain."

John smiled and kissed April's lips before he turned back and continued driving. They arrived at the school a couple minutes later and parked the car. They got out of the car and walked towards the entrance briskly.

John and April arrived at the lockers and saw Nancy and Barb chatting. April and John greeted them before April started to get herself ready for the day. Discarding any books and materials that weren't needed at the moment. John leaned against the locker and waited for April to finish as he talked occasionally with Nancy or Barb.

Barb acted normal, but on the inside, she was thinking about the time she had spent with John. It was a couple weeks ago, and her car had broken down on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. Barb walked a couple miles in the dark, to a gas station and called John.

She couldn't call her parents because she wasn't supposed to travel so far from Hawkins. Anyway, John had answered and told her to wait for him. While Barb was waiting for John, she called Nancy and said, "Hey, Nancy. Can you cover for me tonight?"

Nancy said, "What for?"

Barb said, "Can you just tell them that I am staying the night at your house if they call later. If they ask to speak to me..."

Nancy said, "I know, say that you are asleep. Barb, I am the one that taught you that."

Barb said, "Thank you, Nancy."

Nancy said, "No problem, Barb. I'll see you at school tomorrow?"

Barb said, "Maybe or maybe not, I might not be able to walk."

Nancy said, "What do you... Oh! You little vixen. I'll leave you alone to your companion. Be sure to tell me the details some time."

Barb said, "I will. Bye."

Nancy responded in kind, "Bye."

John arrived at the gas station about an hour and a half later. Barb got into John's car and gave him directions of where she had broken down. It took about 5 minutes for them to arrive at her car. Barb sighed as she remembered how long it took her to walk to the gas station.

When they got to Barb's car, they both got out of the car and Barb sat on the hood of John's car as she watched John walk to the back of his car. John pulled out a large toolbox from the trunk before he walked over to her car. John inspected the car and saw the problem at a glance. John walked back over to his car and sat on the hood beside Barb.

John said, "What were you doing out here anyway, Barb?"

Barb said, "Sometimes I just want to leave Hawkins and never come back. This was the furthest I have ever gone."

John said, "What's wrong with Hawkins? Sure, it is boring, but the people have character. They're real as opposed to the city folk."

Barb said, "I don't know why, I just feel I don't belong."

John said, "Well, you should plan ahead if you decide to drive off into the sunset. Your alternator is broken so your battery died."

Barb said, "Oh, no! Wait. What's an alter... alternator?"

John said, "The alternator keeps your battery from dying in simple terms."

Barb said, "Is there anything you can do? Or do we have to leave my car here?"

John said, "I'm afraid we have to leave it here for the night."

Barb looked down sadly. John said, "Don't worry, I'll call a friend when we get to my house and have him tow your car back."

Barb hugged John tightly and said, "Thank you, John." Barb stayed against John for a while feeling his muscular body. John didn't meander either as his hands began to move along her body.

Just when things were starting to get serious and Barb was about to pull down her pants to let John fuck her pussy, he backed away. John said, "We should start on our way back." Barb nodded timidly as John she felt John's hard cock touch her ass. They were leaned up against the car and John was dry humping her until he stopped. If it were daytime, you would be able to see a wet spot on her pants. They got into the car and John started to drive her back to his house.

Barb was brought out of her daze when Nancy said, "Barb. Hey, Barb!" Barb looked around and saw that Nancy was standing in front of her.

Barb said, "Huh?"

Nancy said, "You were talking but suddenly you stopped and had a deep and contemplative look on your face. The same look you get when you think about boys." Barb denied and closed her locker before she walked off, Nancy following after her trying to find out who Barb was thinking of.

Meanwhile, the culprit was sitting at his desk next to April. John was yawning and such, even when the teacher said, "There is a test" John sat leaned back in his chair, totally relaxed. John blazed through the test in 5 minutes and began to think about building his new car.

At the Byer residence, a utility vehicle was out front fixing the power lines. Inside the house, Jonathan had just finished cooking breakfast and said, "All right, Mom. Breakfast is ready."

Joyce who had stayed up all night, without a wink of rest didn't respond. It wasn't until Jonathan set a plate down on the poster she made, that she spoke. Joyce said, "What, be careful of the poster."

Jonathan said, "Yeah, okay. All right. I just need you to eat, Mom."

Joyce said, "I can't eat... Listen. Listen, the xerox place opens in, like, 30 minutes."

Jonathan said, "Yeah."

Joyce said, "And I don't want you to go alone..."

Jonathan said, "No, mom. I told you, I got it."

Joyce continued, not understanding anything as she was too tired. She said, "...so, I'm gonna have Karen take you, 'cause I should be here."

Jonathan said, "Okay."

Joyce asked, "We need to make, what, 200, 300 copies? How much is a copy?"

Jonathan said, "Yeah, okay."

Joyce asked, "What, ten cents?"

Jonathan said, "Okay, okay mom."

Joyce began to stammer from exhaustion, "If we... Ten cents--"

Jonathan said, "Mom. Mom, Mom! You can't get like this, okay?"

Joyce said, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry."

Jonathan said, "No, it's okay."

Hopper passed by the utility truck and parked in front of the Byer's house. Then he walked up to the door and knocked. Joyce answered the door a couple seconds later. Just by looking at her, Hopper could tell she had been up all night. Joyce said frustratedly, "We've been waiting six hours."

Hopper walked into the house and said, "I know. I came as soon as possible."

Joyce said, "Six hours."

Hopper said, "A little bit of trust here, all right? We've been searching most of the night. Went all the way to Cartersville."

Joyce asked, "And?"

Hopper said, "Nothing."

Joyce gasped before she covered her mouth and said, "God." Tears were beginning to well up in her eyes.

Hopper aked, "Flo said you got a phone call last night."

Joyce's voice cracked as she said, "Oh, yeah." She led Hopper over to the phone and showed him hos it was burnt.

Hopper said, "Storm barbequed this pretty good."

Joyce said, "The storm?"

Hopper asked, "What else?"

Joyce asked, "You're saying that that's not weird?"

Hopper said, "No, it's weird."

Jonathan asked, "Can we, like, trace who made the call? Contact them--"

Hopper interrupted, "No, it doesn't work like that. It has to be a live connection. Also, we don't have the equipment required for that... Now, uh, you're sure it was Will? Because Flo said you just heard some breathing."

Joyce said, "No, it was him. It was Will. And he was scared. And then something--"

Hopper cut her off and said, "It was probably just some prank call. It was somebody trying to scare you."

Jonathan said, "Who would do that?"

Hopper said, "Well, this thing's been on TV. It brings out all the crazies, you know. False leads, prank calls, uh..."

Joyce said, "No, Hopper, it wasn't a prank. It was him."

Hoper said, "Joyce."

Joyce said, "Come on, how about a little trust here? What you think I'm... I'm making this up?"

Hopper said, "I'm not saying that you're making it up. All I'm saying is it's an emotional time for you."

Joyce said, "And you think I don't know my own son's breathing? Wouldn't you know your own daughter's?" Hopper face grimaced some. Joyce realized what she said, but the damage was done.

Hopper paced for a second before he asked, "You heard from, uh, Lonnie yet?"

Joyce said, "No."

Hopper said, "It's been long enough. I'm having him checked out." Hopper then briskly walked out of the house.

Joyce sighed and said, "Oh, come on. You're wasting your time." Jonathan walked out of the house and caught up to Hopper who was already at his car.

Jonathan said, "Hey, Hopper. Hopper. Let me go."

Hopper asked, "I'm sorry?"

Jonathan said, "To Lonnie's. You know, if Will's there, it means he ran away. And if he sees the cops, he'll think he's in trouble. He'll... He'll hide. You know, he's good at hiding."

Hopper said, "Yeah? Well, cops are good at finding. Okay? Stay here with your mom. She needs you." Hopper then got into his SUV and drove off.
