Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Kunlun Beast

Old Li tirelessly repeated himself.

Xu Guang listened intently.

He was really interested in raising elephants.

Since crossing into this world, he had never resolved even the most basic survival crisis. Begging barely kept him from starving, but if he accidentally provoked someone, he wouldn't even know how he died.

He needed some degree of force.

If he could tame the Kunlun Beast, even if he couldn't immediately become a Martial Artist, with the elephant's strength, ordinary martial artists wouldn't be able to compete with him, right?

He felt that this job was genuinely good.

Old Li was quite capable; he had served in the military before and learned the skill of pig castration there. The Zhu Family's farm, with its large-scale pig farming, provided Old Li with a place to stay.

His old army friend vouched for him, and Old Li had been living a rather decent life lately.

...

"Steward Wang, this is the person I found who can raise a Great Beast."

The steward of the farm, equivalent to the leading authority here, looked at Xu Guang, who was following Old Li, with a peculiar expression.

"Can this kid really raise one? I heard from the master that a Great Beast can grow up to one zhang tall, and with a flick of its nose, this kid will be gone, won't he?"

Anyone capable of raising a Great Beast should at least be a burly man, right? This skinny kid looks like he'd be gone with one charge from the beast.

It's not that they were worried about a human life, just concerned that if the beast injures someone, it might lose its fear of humans, making it harder to tame.

"Exactly, Old Li, you're not deceiving the steward, are you? Does this kid even know what a Great Beast looks like?"

The protector nearby couldn't help but mock.

"Right, this kid doesn't think the Great Beast is a herbivore that can be tamed easily, does he? Maybe let him look at the cattle first?"

"Haha."

The air was instantly filled with a jovial atmosphere.

Xu Guang remained humble but resolute, his eyes fixed intently on Steward Wang, "I ask the steward to give me a chance!"

Steward Wang didn't laugh much. Hearing Xu Guang's words, he asked.

"How many people do you need?"

Although the farm's Great Beast wasn't fully grown, it was over two meters tall and weighed over three thousand pounds. If it caused trouble, at least seven or eight strong men were needed to subdue it.

Xu Guang cupped his fists.

"One! I alone am enough! As long as the steward provides enough food, I'll tame the Great Beast in fifteen days!"

Steward Wang was finally moved. He scrutinized Xu Guang for a long while, pondering.

"There are no empty words in the residence."

Someone nearby spoke up, "Steward, the master said he'll come to see the beast next month, we have to tame it before he arrives, giving him half a month..."

Xu Guang quietly replied.

"Ten days! I'll tame the Great Beast in ten days!"

The Great Beast is ferocious, directly captured from the forest. Even though it's not yet fully grown, it requires an Eighth-Grade Martial Artist to handle, but martial artists of that caliber wouldn't take on such tasks.

Shepherding, living among beasts, has never been a glamorous profession.

Lately, except for Xu Guang, who was introduced by Old Li, no one else dared to take this job.

Perhaps, it's worth a try.

"Alright, I can give you whatever you need."}

Xu Guang cupped his fists, his expression solemn.

"Take him to see the Great Beast, arrange for him to stay in the wooden house next to the beast. Provide enough firewood and supplies, but he must not leave the beast."

The steward gave the final order.

Xu Guang breathed a sigh of relief.

The first step was accomplished, now it depended on his Golden Finger.

His beggar level had already risen to level 5. Judging by his previous job change as a beggar, each job change required engaging in the task for a certain period, akin to gaining a job change medium.

Therefore, he needed to buy time for himself. He believed that as long as the job change succeeded, taming the Great Beast would be effortless.

...

"I am the head of the Pig House, named Sun, Old Li, you'll coordinate with this boy from now on."

The long-faced middle-aged man leading the way spoke ahead.

"Whatever you need, let Old Li tell me, and I can usually get everything ready for you."

The Pig House is the biggest industry on this farm, consuming the most daily for pig farming. This long-faced man holds a highly significant position in the farm.

Pausing, Sun Changlian leaned forward to Xu Guang, asking softly.

"Kid, are you really confident you can tame the Great Beast? Have you done it before?"

Xu Guang responded with a slight chuckle, "Someone in my family used to do it, I've seen a lot and tried it myself."

Being new here, he was cautious. Who knew if this person was sent by Steward Wang to extract information.

The long-faced man's demeanor warmed a bit. He also had a son, whom he originally intended to take over the pig farming position. But having seen the Great Beast, if his son could raise that, it would be something to boast about.

Old Li, experienced and wise, naturally saw through Sun Changlian's intentions but didn't expose them.

After all, it's a good thing for Xu Guang to tame the Great Beast without any troubles from their contact.

As long as Xu Guang truly showcased his ability to tame the beast, he'd established himself firmly on this farm.

...

Xu Guang stared in disbelief at the Great Beast kept in an area of seventy to eighty square meters, his expression dazed, as if witnessing something incredulous.

This was completely different from the elephant he had imagined!

Thick tusks, dense brown fur...

This was entirely a woolly mammoth, long extinct from his previous life.

It wasn't what he envisioned. He thought the elephant was a tropical creature, inactive in the winter months, and cohabitation wouldn't be much of a problem, but now with this creature's long fur...

The severe cold didn't affect it in the slightest.

Currently, the giant elephant was in a frenzy, violently crashing against the sturdy wooden fence around it.

The logs used for the fence were massive, requiring several people to encircle, densely packed, yet still, the giant elephant's collision made them creak alarmingly.

Sun Changlian watched Xu Guang's expression with satisfaction.

"Brother Xu, isn't this Great Beast majestic? I heard from the steward that this Great Beast is incredibly rare, even in the Kunlun Wilderness Mountain Range, it's an absolute overlord. Are you really confident?"

Xu Guang swallowed hard, nodding earnestly.

He finally understood why, despite the treatment for raising a Great Beast, the farm had taken so long without finding someone suitable.

This era's beast taming required living with the beast. The wooden house Steward Wang mentioned was inside the fence!

Damn it, with this setup, who dares to claim they can tame the beast in front of them.

He glanced at Old Li, equally dumbfounded.

Forget it, he decided not to scold the old man.

"Don't worry, Yuan Head Sun! I'm confident."

"Alright then, head in. I'll try my best to deliver whatever you need, but you also have to remember, report what the beast eats every day and when it eats. The beast cannot be compromised."

Despite his heart pounding, Xu Guang still nodded, waiting until the giant elephant stopped its frenzy and lay down to rest.

Sun Changlian looked at Xu Guang, cautiously opened the fence door, and gestured to Xu Guang.

Xu Guang took a deep breath and stepped into the fence.

He walked cautiously, afraid to startle the frenzied giant elephant.

Fortunately, the giant elephant had exhausted significant energy in its frenzy moments ago, seeming unaware as Xu Guang slipped in quietly.

It wasn't until Xu Guang successfully entered his wooden house that he waved to Yuan Head Sun, indicating everything was smooth.
