The West Cold Seal Society was founded in the thirtieth year of Qing Guangxu by the Zhejiang school seal carvers Ding Fuzhi, Wang Fu'an, Wu Yin, Ye Weiming, and others, with Wu Changshuo as the first president.
Chen Yiyang had previously picked up some items from Wu Changshuo and was considered to have a connection with the West Cold Seal Society.
Moreover, the West Cold Seal Society was not only established early but is also the oldest and most accomplished international research organization studying the history of stone and seal carving and has the highest influence in the study of seals and arts worldwide, known as "the world's number one famous society."
The West Cold Eight refers to eight individuals who initiated modern seal carving.
