Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Horror Video, New Job

The torrential rain exploded into silver flowers on the bright yellow raincoat as Fang Qingyu hunched his back against the wind, moving forward.

The electric car rolled over the oily asphalt road, and when the headlights cut through the rain curtain, the plane tree leaves, carrying water beads, fluttered in the beam of light, while the latch on the delivery box was beaten by the rain into a rapid drumbeat.

When it comes to who delivers food most desperately in this area, none other than Fang Qingyu deserves the title.

He didn't care at all whether he got soaked through.

The electric scooter shuttled through the streets and alleys, performing more like a living map.

In the afternoon, Fang Qingyu and several deliverymen were eating dinner outside a convenience store.

He glanced at the deliveryman panel.

[Profession: Deliveryman Lv.1 (47/100)]

[Professional Basic Skills: Electric Car Driving Lv.2 (21/200)]

The professional level was soon halfway through, and with a week at most, he could gain another Skill Point.

At this moment, Old Li, who was eating, suddenly spoke mysteriously.

"Hey, do you guys know why the group says not to go to secluded places for deliveries lately at midnight?"

"Wasn't it on the news? It's not peaceful lately; it's probably a gang fight, or someone escaped from prison again."

Everyone was calm about it, not too worried.

At least in crowded areas, such incidents had never happened in Qingjian City, just avoid desolate places at night.

"Not this time."

Old Li shook his head as if he had grasped the truth.

Seeing everyone's eyes focus on him.

Old Li took out his phone and whispered, "Come over here, I'll show you a video."

Fang Qingyu joined the crowd.

He was curious about what was going on. Usually, it was just news without photos.

"Don't go spreading it, you hear?"

Old Li reminded everyone before opening the video.

"Stop dithering. Back when that serial killer appeared on Tianyi Street a few years ago, I was at the scene, you know? When did I ever spill the beans?" someone urged impatiently.

"This footage is absolutely shocking."

Old Li, with a mysterious air, played the video.

The phone screen shook violently, as raindrops smeared a web-like pattern across the lens.

In the distance, the residential building in the old district loomed like a dormant giant beast in the downpour.

"Damn!"

Under the convenience store's eaves, sounds of gasping could be heard repeatedly.

In the blurry image, two dark shadows overlapped at the alley entrance.

The hunched figure above suddenly raised its head, the street lamp slicing a cold light across its face, at its blood-crusted mouth dangled scraps of meat, and between its ghastly white teeth hung half a length of bluish-purple intestine.

Old Li's thumb pressed on the screen: "Watch the eyes."

The video happened to stop at the moment the shadow turned its head back.

Amidst the enlarged pixels, two blood pearl-like eyes burned through the rain screen, staring sharply through the screen at the viewer.

Within the panicked, heavy breathing of the person filming, the camera spun wildly and hit a wall.

Finally, the frame froze on a rain-streaked window pane.

"Shot just yesterday at 3 a.m."

Old Li extinguished his phone, the plastic stool scraping the ground with a piercing sound, "The police have already cordoned it off, saying it's a gas pipeline leak."

"This must be edited."

After watching, someone clicked their tongue.

The words weren't unreasonable; after all, the person looked just like a makeup job from a horror film.

"Whatever, believe it if you want."

Old Li rolled his eyes when he heard that, realizing it's hard to persuade those who choose not to believe.

After speaking, Old Li left the convenience store first to continue working.

Leaving everyone behind, discussing fervently.

Fang Qingyu did not join in, and after bidding farewell to a few people, he rode his electric car home.

Even though everyone except Old Li believed that the video was edited, and they spoke convincingly.

For example, a person looking like that couldn't be alive.

Or from the lighting effects and whatnot, it seemed quite fake.

But what if...

What if it wasn't edited?

Finally having a chance to climb upwards, Fang Qingyu didn't want to stake his safety on the possibility that it was edited.

He still wasn't strong enough.

If only he could be like Lin Jiao, making people feel like they were in an ice cave with just a glance.

Even if the opponent wasn't human, he would have enough power to protect himself, right?

Fang Qingyu thought as he went home, changed his clothes, and set off for his next job.

The bloodstains in the alley had already been washed away by the heavy rain.

Entering through the backdoor, Xiao Si's eyes lit up when he saw Fang Qingyu.

"Qingzi, Brother Qiao is looking for you, go to him first."

"Oh, alright."

Fang Qingyu was a bit puzzled, heading towards the office.

"Knock, knock~"

"Come in."

When Brother Qiao saw it was Fang Qingyu, he pointed to the chair opposite: "Sit."

Fang Qingyu walked up to him and sat down, looking at the headline above him.

[Security Advisor at the Purple Stone Commerce Association]

"Been practicing martial arts lately?"

Brother Qiao asked as he took out a cigar from the drawer.

"Yes, but I've just started."

Fang Qingyu was stunned for a moment and answered honestly.

"I could tell."

Brother Qiao recalled Fang Qingyu's Turtle Fist from the surveillance and couldn't help but chuckle.

"But you're still pretty good; those hoodlums have been bothering quite a few people around here. Interested in a different job?"

"?"

Fang Qingyu immediately showed a puzzled expression.

In the same company, was someone trying to refer him to another job?

"Haha, it's like this, another place of mine is short on staff right now. It's also for a security guard position, working hours from 7 to 12, with a salary of sixteen thousand. What do you think, interested?"

Fang Qingyu furrowed his brows slightly after hearing that.

"What's the job about?"

"Completely legal and compliant, rest assured, it's just a mixed martial arts venue. People watching matches inside tend to get worked up sometimes, so we need to maintain order."

From Brother Qiao's expression, Fang Qingyu could tell what he was thinking and quickly waved his hand.

"Underground boxing?"

A word immediately popped into Fang Qingyu's mind.

"No way it's underground boxing; it's a legitimate fighting betting venue. Don't believe me, you can check online about Tongyuan Martial Arts Hall."

Without hesitation, Fang Qingyu picked up his phone to look it up.

It was just as Brother Qiao said.

All procedures were in place; it was a totally legitimate entity.

And it wasn't just that venue; Fang Qingyu checked a few others. Qingjian City had three or four of such places.

All... entirely legal.

Fang Qingyu put away his phone.

"Can I visit first?"

"Sure, just come and report during work hours tomorrow; if it doesn't work out, come back here."

Brother Qiao agreed readily.

"Thank you, Brother Qiao."

Fang Qingyu stood up and expressed his gratitude. If it was indeed as he said, working as a security guard would double, if not more, his monthly salary, and the work hours were shorter.

He could continue gaining experience in the security profession.

Which matched his current needs perfectly.

"Don't mention it."

Brother Qiao waved his hand grandly.

After Fang Qingyu left the office.

Brother Qiao sat in his chair, recalling the day before when he watched the alley's surveillance and reviewed Fang Qingyu's work footage.

From his shaky steps, almost being pushed over by guests several times, to single-handedly knocking down four people...

The whole process took less than ten days.

Whatever that represented, others might not understand, but Brother Qiao was crystal clear.

"A true Martial Artist..."

Brother Qiao's eyes were full of yearning.

Even though he knew Fang Qingyu's chances of success weren't high, the cost he paid was also minimal.

And if by some miracle...

Fang Qingyu achieved true Martial Artist status.

Heh...

Then no matter how things turned out, he stood to gain a lot...

That's also why.

He could sit in the office acting as a Security Guard.
