Chapter 17 - The mother Awakens

Episode 18: The Mother Awakens

Three Hours After the Leak — Hidden Location

Evan's phone wouldn't stop buzzing. News channels, influencers, even senators were calling it "the biotech theft of the decade." But none of it mattered.

Just one name mattered.

Elio.

Her child.

"Coordinates," Evan snapped at Emrys. "Now."

He hesitated. "We have a general pin, but not the exact floorplan. Cassandra has the place buried in false leads and infrared jammers."

"I don't care." Her voice was ice. "I'm not waiting."

Abel stepped into the war room, sliding a USB across the table.

"I found something."

Evan raised an eyebrow.

"My father's old fail-safe," Abel explained. "A power surge code. Meant to disable Cassandra's systems if she ever turned rogue."

Evan stared at him.

"Why do you have that?"

He hesitated. "Because I always knew she would betray us."

Her eyes narrowed—but she said nothing.

"Then let's use it," she muttered. "Tonight."

---

Later — Armored SUV, En Route to Cassandra's Compound

Zane and Elara were safe, staying with Nori under military-grade protection. Abel sat beside Evan, both dressed in dark tactical gear. No words were needed. Not anymore.

This wasn't a mission.

It was a mother's reckoning.

"Do you think he knows?" Evan asked quietly.

"Who?" Abel replied.

"Elio. Do you think he knows he doesn't belong there?"

Abel's throat tightened.

"I think he's waiting for you."

She turned to the window, voice low.

"Then let's not keep him waiting."

---

Inside Cassandra's Fortress — Laboratory Wing

Elio sat on the floor, building towers from magnetic blocks. He didn't speak often. But he hummed.

Same melody Evan used to sing in the hospital.

Same rhythm Elara cooed when sleepy.

The techs observed him like he was a science project.

Then—

All lights cut out.

Sirens blared.

The wall screens flashed:

INTRUSION DETECTED. CODE BLACK.

---

Hallway Breach — 1:43 a.m.

Evan led the charge. Emrys behind her. Abel took the rear.

Three guards went down in seconds.

Gas. Strobe disorientors. Tactical brilliance.

She moved with lethal grace—like someone who had nothing left to fear.

Then—

A door.

Heavily locked.

Fingerprint access.

Evan didn't pause. Just shot the panel. Sparks flew. The door creaked open.

And inside…

He sat.

Elio.

---

Mother & Son — First Meeting

Evan dropped to her knees, eyes wide.

"Elio," she whispered.

He stared at her. Studied her face.

He didn't move.

Evan reached into her pocket.

Pulled out the red toy truck.

"You dropped this."

His fingers trembled.

He took it.

Then his lips parted—small and quiet.

"Mama?"

Evan broke.

Tears spilled as she clutched him tight, rocking him like he was made of glass.

Abel stepped forward, emotion in his throat.

Evan didn't look away from the boy.

"We're taking him home," she said.

Abel nodded.

Emrys, however… didn't speak.

---

Flashback — Two Years Ago

Cassandra's lab.

A test subject lay in a chamber.

"You sure you want this one?" she asked Emrys.

He looked into the glass at the embryo marked:

> Dendelion-Luna. Viable.

"Yes," he whispered.

"You know what this means?"

"I want her to see the truth. I want her to need me."

---

Present — Cassandra's Escape Wing

She threw open a hidden vault.

"Elio is gone," her assistant screamed. "They've breached the core!"

Cassandra didn't blink.

"Then let them take him."

"What?"

She smiled coldly.

"Because Elio wasn't just created from LunaTech's stolen genetics. He's been engineered."

The assistant paled. "Engineered how?"

Cassandra looked at the screen showing Evan holding Elio.

"Let's just say… when he turns five, they'll find out."

---

Final Scene — Safehouse Return

Evan tucked Elio into the crib beside Zane and Elara. She kissed his forehead.

"Welcome home, my love."

Abel watched from the doorway, heart full and aching.

"She's unstoppable now," Emrys muttered.

Abel nodded.

"She's a mother."
