Suddenly, a sharp crack echoed nearby. Instinctively, he rolled from his makeshift bed and crouched low, scanning the treeline.
Emerging from the underbrush were figures cloaked in dark robes, their faces hidden beneath deep hoods. The air around them twisted unnaturally, shadows clinging like living things.
"You carry the Demon Seed," the tallest of the group hissed. "It belongs to us."
Nkosana's heart pounded. He clenched his fists as the mark on his neck flared. Power surged through his veins, and his eyes gleamed with fierce defiance.
"I belong to no one."
With a roar, he charged forward, ready to fight the forces that sought to claim him — and the dark destiny that awaited.
