Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Upgrading the Scythe and the Land

Lin Qianyi never expected that the Main God's points would be interchangeable with the currency in his farming space.

So, was "origin energy" essentially the Main God's points?

Or were they the same thing, just with different names?

Then what exactly was it?

Was it a tangible substance, not just a string of data?

How did the Main God even provide it?

Lin Qianyi couldn't find the answer, and likely wouldn't figure it out anytime soon.

So he didn't plan to dwell on it.

Right now, he had only one task: gather as much Sea God Grass as possible to take back.

"Be careful not to step on them. They're highly corrosive. Try to collect them from the roots, then just put them into your bag," Lin Qianyi instructed Zhou Hong as he tied the raft's rope to himself and stepped ashore.

"Got it, Brother Yi," Zhou Hong replied.

Because of Lin Qianyi's performance, Zhou Hong had unconsciously changed how he addressed him.

It might've also been one of Zhou Hong's social tricks when dealing with a younger but more capable person, you want to show respect, but not so much that it feels forced. It's all part of life experience.

Lin Qianyi approached a clump of Sea God Grass, carefully observing it.

The plant was about 50 cm tall above his knees and entirely emerald green.

It emitted a rhythmic glow, and you could faintly feel warmth from the light it gave off.

Its roots were deeply embedded in the ground or more accurately, in rock.

He had no idea how it managed to root itself there.

What nutrients did it need?

Could it be something unique within the meteorite?

While thinking, Lin Qianyi, wearing makeshift rubber gloves, reached for the plant and used a small wooden shovel to gently loosen the roots. The roots weren't severed during the process.

They were quite tough and not easily damaged.

It took him a while to dig up just one plant.

One root had a slight tear, and some glowing green sap leaked out. It dripped onto the shovel with a sizzling sound clear corrosion.

Lin Qianyi began to doubt whether this thing was really edible.

He placed it in his bag and began collecting a second one.

With more experience, he figured out how to harvest them cleanly.

No need to shovel just grab it and pull with steady force. The roots would gradually loosen on their own.

Fish circled around the bags filled with Sea God Grass. Lin Qianyi figured the stuff would make excellent bait.

"Brother Yi, how come no dolphins or sharks have been attracted to this?" Zhou Hong suddenly asked.

Lin Qianyi looked toward the darker, deeper parts and replied, "No idea. But let's just collect what's near the edges and not go deeper in."

He actually found it suspicious too.

Which was why he believed something was probably in there.

That deep, pitch-black area probably held a nasty "surprise."

If they got too close to gather more, they might get attacked.

But the amount they already had was more than enough no need to take risks.

Soon, they filled their bags with Sea God Grass.

In total: 22 plants.

They could cram in more, but it would cause them to press against each other and rupture wasting the valuable sap.

So this was a good amount to carry.

With that, the two returned to the raft and began their trip back.

Getting there had been easy, but returning required more effort.

They rowed continuously.

Because of the Sea God Grass, more fish surrounded the raft. With quicker reflexes, they probably could've smacked a couple to death with their paddles.

After half an hour, they reached shore.

They were immediately greeted by Su Mandong, who had been anxiously awaiting their return.

"How did it go?" she asked.

"We collected 22 plants. Want to check?" Lin Qianyi opened the bag.

Su Mandong leaned in to look, even picking one up.

"This feeling… there's no mistake. This is definitely Sea God Grass!"

She could barely contain her excitement.

She never imagined she'd ever see so much Sea God Grass in her lifetime.

In the past, she had only seen a tiny preserved sample in a lab.

That had a strong radioactive presence but it was nothing compared to the living version.

"What happens next is up to you," Lin Qianyi said. "You lead, we'll assist."

"It's simple. Just crush and juice it, then mix in some wood ash to neutralize it. You don't need complex steps the power of the Sea God itself is the key. It's just that the human body can't handle the full effect directly otherwise we wouldn't need to dilute it…" Su Mandong explained, restraining her excitement.

They immediately began experimenting.

They used a bamboo tube, cut off a small piece of Sea God Grass with a dagger, and mashed it inside using a wooden stick. After juicing it, they added wood ash. The mix turned into a softly glowing ash paste.

The corrosiveness was mostly gone by this point, but they still didn't dare eat it.

Su Mandong wouldn't risk it herself. Instead, they caught a few fish and fed them a small amount to test.

While the experiment was ongoing, they kept working.

They began chopping wood and making ropes planning to build a larger raft.

Not just tying wood together, but incorporating mortise and tenon joinery.

Still, nothing too complicated.

As Lin Qianyi chopped trees with his folding sword, his consciousness sank into the farming space.

He had just earned 200 points.

Which also meant 200 origin energy.

Though points could be exchanged for resources in the trial space, that could only be done after the mission ended. For now, the only thing he could directly use was the farming space.

If he could upgrade something in the space, it would help immensely later.

With 200 origin energy, he had four options:

1. Upgrade the scythe

2. Upgrade the land

3. Buy another plot

4. Buy an extra cubic meter of storage

Upgrading the scythe increased the chance of harvesting higher-quality plants.

Upgrading the land accelerated growth speed.

Buying extra land and storage was self-explanatory but the benefits were minor compared to upgrades.

As for unlocking a fish pond or pasture, those required 1,000 origin energy each.

Right now, extra land or storage wasn't essential.

The upgrades would offer much more value.

The upgraded scythe could yield rare plants with extra effects.

Upgraded land was even better it boosted growth speed.

If he remembered right, Lv1 land gives a 10× boost.

That meant a plant that normally took 10 days would mature in 1 day.

His Marrow-Washing Grass, which usually took 5 years, matured in 6 months after planting on upgraded land.

That's what you call farming bliss!

Staring at his land, Lin Qianyi focused and brought up its info:

> [Ordinary Land (Lv0): Provides basic nutrients for plant growth.

Current growth speed bonus: None.]

With a thought, he chose to upgrade it.

> [Upgrade requirement: 100 origin energy. Proceed?]

"Yes!"

The moment he agreed, light flashed over the mushroom-covered plot. The soil turned deeper and richer.

> [Upgrade complete.]

He checked again:

> [Nutrient-Rich Land (Lv1): Provides more nutrients for plant growth.

Current growth speed bonus: 10×.]

He watched the mycelium spreading at a visible rate.

The tenfold growth speed was real!

"Now for the scythe!"

He turned his gaze to the scythe leaning outside the warehouse. Its info popped up:

> [Rusty Harvest Scythe (Lv0): Can be used to harvest plants.

Current harvest chance – Low quality: 30%, Normal: 70%]

> [Upgrade requirement: 100 origin energy. Proceed?]

"Yes!"

A flash of light rust vanished, the dull blade now gleamed with a cold edge.

> [Fine Harvest Scythe (Lv1): Used for harvesting plants.

Harvest chance – Low: 5%, Normal: 90%, Excellent: 5%]

Now there was a 5% chance to get an "Excellent" grade.

That wasn't just an extra tag it meant ten times the effect of a normal plant.

In games, a 10× boost might just mean a number bump.

But in real life?

It would be like increasing someone's physical stats tenfold the result would be terrifying.

Even a small stat gain could lead to a transformation tenfold was insane!

For example, Marrow-Washing Grass could push the human body to its theoretical limit. But Lin Qianyi believed an "Excellent" one could break even that turning him into a true super-evolved being.

With 200 origin energy spent, the next upgrades would cost ten times more and increase like that up to Lv10.

Such is the nature of these casual farming games numbers often feel like they're made up just to burn time.

Looking at the mushroom patch, Lin Qianyi focused and planted a root he'd secretly collected Sea God Grass root.

Now that food wasn't an issue, he stopped growing mushrooms.

He wanted to grow something useful.

And Sea God Grass seemed to be the best option.

According to Su Mandong, it had a very short growth cycle matured in under 3 months.

With Lv1 land's 10× boost, that meant about 10 days to maturity in the farming space.

If he was lucky and got an "Excellent" one with a special trait…

Lin Qianyi couldn't help but smile like a fool.

It wasn't that he lacked self-control anyone in his position would be grinning.

And if someone claimed they wouldn't? Lin Qianyi would give them a thumbs up!
