Chapter 7 - An ally?

He was met with the curious and fearful gaze of all.

Some of them looked at him from top to bottom, smelling the rotten flesh on him. Some were too afraid to even lift their head, hiding it with their hands cowering in fear.

A mother was holding her child, closing her eyes, expecting this all to be just a bad dream.

One was on his knees, his hands clasped, praying to the God to show mercy on them.

All of them were in similar state.

Raven took a glance at them but did not say anything and walked off to get him some food.

As he was about to pick a can of juice to quench his thirst, the man from before came near him and said,

"Hey, don't take anything from here without paying, the boss will cut it from my salary."

But Raven ignored him for now and leaned back on the shelf before him and took a sip of the juice.

He was finally able to have something after a really long day. Just this was making him feel alive again.

He finally turned to look at the man and said,

"So what if I do? You gonna complain? Go and do it."

The man went silent after that. There was no point in thinking of such things now.

And after a while, he spoke again, but this time he was solemn and mindful of what he was about to say.

"Hey... you fought them, didn't you?"

Raven finished drinking all of that juice and answered him.

"I did."

It was something that the man had figured. He was able to get here when there were so many of those monsters roaming around and he was unharmed.

"So... umm... aren't you... scared? They just appeared out of nowhere and killed so many people. I can't even think of going put to face them."

Raven went silent for a while. His words made him remember the onslaught that he had seen outside just now.

Even when coming here, he saw hundreds of people getting killed by them.

It was brutal.

Any person who saw such a seen will be scared of them for sure.

"I cannot answer that."

He wasn't lying. Even he was unsure is he was scared or not. If you ask him if the death of so many people faze him, then the answer will be... no. Not of them had any impact on him.

But it was also true that he did not dare to face all of those undead while coming here.

He could have faced them all, even protected some people from dying, but he did not.

And now that he gets to think of it, does he regret that?

No, he does not.

"Are there any equipments here? Something like a hammer will be great." Raven asked him.

He was not going to stay here for long, after resting for a while, he needs to leave soon.

And just his chain and brake disc won't be enough.

It was a good weapon, he was even able to kill 24 undead by it, but if there is a monsters above ordinary, then he needs a hard weapon that he can use in short range.

But what he found was just disappointment, he did not see anything that could help him in fight.

"Yeah, they are at the back." The man answered him, wondering why he needed that, but he quickly understood why.

Raven wasn't going to stay here and was planning to go out.

Hearing the response from the man, Raven walked away without saying anything.

But the guy did not let him alone and followed after him, he wanted to ask Raven something but was hesitating if he should to not.

In simple terms, he was afraid.

To be honest, he was a man too, just staying here was not what he wanted. From a man of this era, he has watched and read countless stories like this, and dreamed of living the life as a protagonist or maybe somewhat similar to that.

But there is a difference in fiction and reality.

Seeing those monsters on a screen and seeing those monsters before him was a whole different matter.

It could be considered brave that he did not shit himself when the apocalypse started.

But there is also the thing that he wanted to change.

Any person in right mind will realise it immediately that if they just stay in one place without doing anything, then they will just be waiting to get slaughtered.

No one will come to save them, they have to fight for themselves and faster they realise that, more better for them.

'I know i cannot fight them by myself, but if I can tag with him, then there is a greater chance of surviving. It already seems like he has fought them and he came here looking for more equipments.'

It was obvious he wanted to go with him, but it was the same thing that was scaring him. What if he rejects to tag him along?

He knew he wasn't safe here, just a few moments earlier he has seen one of the undead killing a man who was inside a car with his windows shut, but guess what, the undead pierced through the glass like butter and killed that man.

If you think the glass gate is enough to hold them off, then you are gravely mistaken.

Raven soon found what he needed, a light but hard hitting weapon.

There were hammers there and also a few crowbars.

He reached out to them and tried them out, swinging them around on the free air.

'Will it be enough to crush their head?'

He was able to kill them due to the spinning momentum of the disc just now, but if it gets to a close range fight, that would be useless to him. A crowbar right now could be a good choice, it is eay to swing and can be really useful.

"I will take a few of them." Raven said, without facing him.

He was busy picking the crowbar from the shelf.

"Umm~ h-hey?"

And finally the boy gathered up his courage and decided to ask Raven.

"Would you mind if I tag along with you?"
