Chapter 2 - The mysterious man

Liang Xiaoyu was shocked to see the numeric value floating above Jiang Yichen's head.

She couldn't believe her eyes.

(+90)…

"Impossible…" she whispered to herself. "How can this be?"

The man who loved her deeply, who was currently so worried about her—only had a (+5) above his head.

And Jiang Yichen, her sworn enemy, had a (+90)?

"Could there be something wrong with this system? Maybe lower numbers mean more affection? Or maybe higher numbers mean less?"

But then she remembered what the doctor had explained.

"This system detects real-time vibes—good or bad, affection or hatred. It cannot lie."

So was Chen Hao just pretending to care?

Before she could think more, she heard Chen Hao's voice outside her hospital room.

He was speaking to Jiang Yichen.

"Mr. Jiang, Xiaoyu isn't well right now. She can't work at the moment. Please come later and don't disturb her."

But Jiang Yichen just smirked and replied,

"Who said I came here for work? I just wanted to see Miss Liang in her miserable state. And to be honest… I'm kind of enjoying the view."

His words were cold and mocking—nothing about them matched the +90 hovering over his head.

Xiaoyu's confusion deepened.

Just then, Chen Hao snapped back—

"You…"

But the doctor interrupted them both.

"Enough! Please keep quiet. The patient needs to rest."

Chen Hao turned to Jiang Yichen.

"The doctor's right. Please leave. Let Xiaoyu rest."

Jiang Yichen scoffed.

"Why should I leave? You should go. You came first; now it's my turn."

Their bickering made Xiaoyu's head pound.

"Enough!" she shouted.

"Everyone just get out! My head hurts. I need to be alone!"

The doctor stepped in again.

"All of you, please step out. The patient needs rest."

Chen Hao looked at Xiaoyu with surprise.

She had never asked him to leave before.

Jiang Yichen gave her a crooked, almost victorious smile and turned to leave.

Chen Hao followed, pausing at the door.

"Alright, baby… Take care of yourself. I'll come to pick you up tomorrow morning."

And he walked out.

Now, the ward was quiet. Only Xiaoyu remained.

She whispered to herself,

"What's going on? None of this makes sense anymore…"

"Maybe I just need a nap. Maybe everything will feel normal again after I sleep."

She pulled the blanket over herself and slowly drifted off.

Meanwhile, far away from the city, in a dark under-construction site...

A man was tied to a chair, a cloth stuffed in his mouth muffling his cries.

He was trying to say something, but it was barely audible.

Around him stood several guards in black suits, emotionless and still.

Suddenly—footsteps echoed through the silence.

A powerful aura entered the scene.

A man approached, surrounded by more guards. By his side walked a young assistant.

"Boss, this is the driver who caused Miss Liang's car accident. He might be her assistant or something…"

He continued—

"We questioned him for hours… but he's said nothing. And—"

But the man raised a hand.

The assistant fell silent instantly.

Then the man spoke in a cold, smooth voice:

"Looks like you're not worried about your family... Your wife and children, waiting for you at home... What if something happens to them...?"

His sentence hung dangerously in the air.

The tied-up driver's eyes widened in fear.

Seeing this, the man gestured to his assistant, who removed the cloth from the driver's mouth.

The man gasped for air, then began trembling.

"Please… Don't hurt my family. I'll tell you everything!"

The man's voice remained calm.

"That depends on whether you tell the truth."

The driver sobbed,

> "I was paid a lot of money. I was shown a photo and told to cause an accident. I gave in to greed… I didn't think about the consequences. Please forgive me..."

The man narrowed his eyes.

"Who gave you the order?"

"I… I don't know. He wore a mask. I never saw his face..."

"I've told you everything. Please let me go…"

But the man's voice turned sharp.

"You tried to take someone's life for money. You knew that she could die in that accident… and you did it anyway."

The words sent a chill down the driver's spine. He began to shiver.

"P-please… don't… hurt… me…"

The man turned to his guards.

"Take him to the police. Hand over all the evidence. Make sure he never gets out."

The driver began pleading and crying, but no one listened.

The guards dragged him away.

The mysterious man gave a crooked smile.

"You made a mistake… and now, you'll pay for it."

And with that, he walked away.
